Nirra woke up later that day to continue crafting her new weapon. After breakfast, Ellie was able to catch her before she was able to get inside the forge.

"Nirra? Why are you so committed to go inside the forge today?" Elliot said as she crossed her arms.

"I was going to tell you later, since you asked. I'm making a new musket," Nirra answered with a hand on her hip.

"Musket? Is that what you call that long tube thing?" Ellie asked, to which Nirra nodded. "Then what are you making then?" Ellie continued.

"Oh, I'm just making some improvements on its design," Nirra answered briefly.

"Well, okay then." Ellie said as she remembered why she asked for Nirra's attention.

"Oh yeah, sis, the guildmaster wants us to report to his office by noon; do you think you can get it done by then?" Ellie said, and Nirra seemed puzzled.

"What for? We didn't do anything that would cause us to lose our guild cards." Nirra said.

"I think it's more of a special quest than a demotion or getting our cards revoked." Ellie explained, to which Nirra nodded in understanding.

"Alright, I'll see if I can finish it by noon," Nirra answered.

"Okay, good luck, sis; I'll go train with dad; he's waiting for me outside the city walls." She then picked up the bag that was near the door.

"Alright, have fun out there," Nirra said with a small smile.

"Sure, sis, I'll meet you at the guild at high noon." Ellie then waved her sister goodbye as she left the house.

Nirra was now against the clock to finish the lever-action rifle. Noon was about 5 hours away, so she had to hurry and finish. She swiftly entered the forge and immediately turned on the furnace. She then grabbed a big chunk of steel and readied her electric motor attached to a milling drill to start making the main body of the rifle. Mofu entered the forge when he woke up. He was still sleepy, though, so he took a spot in the corner of the forge to continue his small nap. Not before he got woken up by the sound of electric drills burring inside the metal. Mofu couldn't sleep with all the noise, so he left the forge again to sleep on Nirra's bed, at least for 2 hours more.

Nirra didn't notice Mofu's little escapade and was dead focused on finishing her rifle. She slowly drew out the shape of the main body, which had small holes for pins where parts like the bolt, hammer, lever, and tubular magazine would go. With careful hands, she also poured a bit of water on the metal she was working on so it wouldn't get too hot. After she was finished, she was left with a frame with the exact measurements she needed to finish the rifle. She then checked for any cracks that could hinder her firearm, and she found none. After she was satisfied, she then took out another long steel rod that is almost as long as the 24-inch barrel. She slowly drilled a hole into the center of it that could fit the cartridge inside. Shen then tested it out by dropping a cartridge she made last night inside it and slowly descending before stopping at the bottom, which was capped off. She was satisfied with the outcome and moved on to cast the different parts that she still needed. She then picked up some clay and slowly manipulated it into the different parts she needed. The first was a T-shaped part that had a small hole in the other end, which was the lifter. It's used to lift the cartridges from the tubular magazine and into the firing chamber. Next was a crescent-shaped object that would act as the trigger; it also had a small hole on the side of it so it could mount onto the frame. The hammer, which is in a very interesting shape, would fit inside its housing at the back. Its job is the same as the revolver she made, in which it will slam the firing pin that would ignite the propellant. The next one is the firing pin, which was a long, narrow, circular rod that normally had a pointy end at one side. What Nirra did was mold the clay to have a small dip at the end where she would place a doomslime core, which would slam into the thick steel disk under the modified cartridge she made, which would in turn cause it to combust and ignite the gunpowder inside. Almost like a center-fire primer type. Finally, she molded the lever that will cycle the action and load a cartridge into the firing chamber.

She then let it dry inside the furnace. She then placed steel ingots inside a crucible and into the same furnace where the mold was drying.

While she waited for them to finish, she then used the electric drill to finish off the remaining parts, like the bolt, which will ram the cartridge inside the firing chamber. The sear, which will hold back the firing pin to prepare it to strike the cartridge, and the follower, which will push the cartridge towards the lifter using a spring, where it will lift it up for the bolt to ram it inside the firing chamber,

After she milled all of the parts, she placed them on the crafting table along with the barrel and frame to wait for the other components before she started final assembly.

She went back to the furnace and took out the molds she made and started using dumbing sand on them inside a wooden frame so that when she removed the mold, all that was left was a cavity where she could pour the molten steel into. After she had done that, she poured the steel inside the cavity and let it harden. Nirra took her time to rest before the steel completely hardened. Once hard, she then took each individual component and sanded it down to remove any excess that formed during the casting. After it was complete, she took all of the components and began final assembly. She first inserted the barrel into the firing chamber as well as the tubular magazine; she then placed a long, thin spring inside the tubular magazine before placing the follower inside it. It was a perfect fit, and every component slid down with ease.

Next, she used pins to pin the lifter and lever in place. The notches allowed them to be placed on top of each other. She then added the trigger, along with a small spring, and pinned it along with the sear and hammer. Lastly, she inserted a small, long spring into the firing pin with a tiny doomslime core mounted on the tip of the firing pin. She then inserted the firing pin assembly inside the bolt and placed it inside the frame. The bolt had a notch in it which the lever could interact and push it forward and backward. She wiped it with a cloth and started to test it. First, she loaded a dummy round inside the tubular magazine, which was made by using the original cartridge as a mold for which she cast steel. She then loaded the tubular magazine with the dummy round and pulled the lever. She could see that when she pulled it down, the lifter also went down to pick up the round, which the follower pushed on. It also pulled the bolt backwards, which pushed the hammer down, coking it. She then pulled it back to its original position, and the lifter moved up as the bolt pushed it forward and chambered it inside the firing chamber. So far, so good, Nirra thought. She then pressed the trigger as the hammer slammed forward, striking the firing pin, and she saw that the doomslime core ignited when it struck the dummy round. If that were a real cartridge, it would fire off the cartridge. When she pulled the lever back down, the ejector, made from a small piece of steel, grabbed onto the dummy round, and the spring, along with the notches inside the frame, ejected the bullet into her hand.

She then carved out the wooden pieces for the stock and the hand guard for her firearm. She then attached them to the rifle using pins to hold it in place.

Nirra breathed a sigh of relief that she managed to finish it, and just in time too. She noticed the sun's rays were now near their peak, which meant it was almost noon. So she got kitted up and grabbed the belt that holstered her revolver and ammunition storage. She took out all the lead balls from her ammunition storage and replaced them with the .44 cartridges she made for her lever-action rifle. The rifle itself looked like an old Winchester model 1873.

She then grabbed her newly made lever-action rifle and dashed out of the front door, Mofu was waiting for her there so she picked him up onto her shoulder as she ran towards the adventures guild.

Spoiler

To those who aren't familiar with firearms, heres a picture of what Nirra made in this chapter.

Winchester model 1873

And here are the components.
