Leaving the flying park up in the sky, we descended via teleportation to the sandbar that connected the lakeshore and the island.

“The ground’s more solid than I thought it would be.”

“Yeah. It feels more like a layer of sand on top of something solid like stone. Wait, look there. There’s something large bulging over there.”

This didn’t appear to be your regular old sandbar.

“You’re right, Luke-sama. This sandbar is actually what has become of the corpse of a large water dragon that used to reside in this lake.”

“A water dragon…?”

When I lightly dug the sand beneath my feet, I found not stone but rather multiple large scales. Each one probably had a diameter of 1 meter each. And the large thing I saw protruding turned out to be a bone.

“What’s with this size…”

“Wow.”

As though overwhelmed, Selius-kun and Noel-kun groaned so.

“Because its head is missing, we can’t accurately say how big it is, but our estimate is that it’s at the very least 1 kilometer long.”

“““1 kilometer!?”””

Unsurprisingly, its size was beyond anything normal.

It looked to have a snakelike body in that it was elongated in shape, but even then, to think that a monster this large used to live here…

“It is estimated that about 500 years have passed since its demise.”

500 years had passed and yet its scales were still there.

“Then no one among my people would have been alive when it was still around.”

Philia-san said so. The life expectancy of elves was about 250 years, with the oldest among them being just a little bit over 300 years of age.

We walked along the sandbar to the city. Upon arriving there, we found a reception far greater than I expected waiting for us.

“Luke-sama and party, we welcome you to the Gobaldo Republic!”

“““Welcome!!”””

Over a thousand people were at the city’s entrance. They greeted us, then gave a big and passionate round of applause. Immediately afterwards, fireworks shot to the sky and a band began giving a splendid performance.

There was even a gigantic horizontal banner that had “Warmest of welcomes, Luke-sama and party” written on it.

When we walked along a red carpet…

“Thank you for gracing us with your presence! I am Pelesa, the one currently serving as this nation’s prime minister! It a pleasure to make your acquaintance!”

Prime minister? Isn’t that, like, the head of this country?

“What a superb welcome.”

“Y-yeah.”

“Isn’t this comparable to a welcome for a king of a foreign country?”

“Huh? Really?”

I was quite taken aback by what Dant-san pointed out.

Brookley-san followed that up.

“The leader of a nation greeting a party at the city entrance isn’t at all a common thing. Which just goes to show how much Luke-sama’s visit means to them.”

Afterwards, we were treated to a flurry of hospitality.

The first place we were guided to was a lavish building that gave me the impression that it was built just recently. It was bigger in terms of plot size than the [Large House] I lived in before I moved to my current to the palace. It even had a well-groomed and beautiful garden.

“This lodging facility is for your exclusive use.”

“You reserved the whole place for us?”

“Yes. This place was made all for you, after all.”

“Huh? By that, you don’t mean…”

When I asked Ian-san about it, she explained that this building was newly built just for this occasion.

And they did so without anyone having a Gift like mine.

“We had gathered all the finest carpenters from all over our country. We also had our best architects work on its design.”

“I-is that so…”

“We also arranged for a restaurant, a large bath, and of course, a theater to be in the premises. I absolutely hope you could come and watch one of our traditional performing arts show.”

Each one of us was given our own rooms. Each of those rooms were large enough to be considered suites, and they were all fully furnished with nothing but the finest of things.

It was in that building that we were visited by the nation’s most influential people one after the other. Each one of them gave us presents as though they were competing against one another on who could give the most luxurious one.

“How do I put this? Their welcome is so crazy, it’s suffocating.”

Selen, who thought she could freely walk around the city, said so in disappointment.
