DPM Chapter 24-Construction Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77

Along the way, the two people didn’t talk again. Mozun slumped in the back seat, while Wu Xingyun earnestly concentrated on driving.

The sky gradually darkened, the surrounding neon lights flickering to life. The buildings on both sides of the street rose and fell in the dimness, melodious notes of the city, playing a movement in the night.

Wu Xingyun twisted a dial on the dashboard and quiet piano music flowed from the speakers, hovering in the air.

In an empty city, a gray car sped along the road, its smooth metal hood unceasingly mirroring the blurred scenery.

When he reached the city square, Wu Xingyun didn’t know where to go next. He slowed the car and asked: “Do you want to go back?”

Mozun, who’d been watched the landscape pass by, turned his head, quietly considering Wu Xingyun’s back.

“Remember the night before the wedding, I invited you to see the sunset?” Mozun replied. “You refused. Want to go now?”

“You’re not well, you should rest some more,” said Wu Xingyun, “Also, I want to help set up a signal station as soon as possible, to get in touch with the Federation. I……”

Halfway through his words, Wu Xingyun saw the disappointment in Mozun’s eyes, reflected in the rearview mirror. For no clear reason, Wu Xingyun paused, finding some refusals hard to say. However, Wu Xingyun didn’t like acting emotionally, and he didn’t want his impulses dictating his words and actions. He’d long been trained to obey orders, obey his leaders. He wouldn’t act according to his own preferences.

Still, he tried to express himself more euphemistically: “I know you……I know that you see the resemblance between me and that other person. If I have time, I’ll try to meet your requirements.”

After saying that, Wu Xingyun figured Mozun would likely get angry.

It was unexpected that Mozun smiled, his expression unprecedently tender as he calmly looked at Wu Xingyun.

Again, Wu Xingyun glanced into the rearview mirror.

He saw a beautiful man, with a cold aura, though the eyes were filled with indulgent doting. Unfortunately, Wu Xingyun knew the expression wasn’t really for him. It was aimed at the old lover Mozun remembered when he looked at Wu Xingyun.

But, for half a second, Wu Xingyun was bewitched.

He didn’t speak, as his eyes met Mozun’s.

“Alright,” said Mozun, “Then I’ll accompany you to the base.”

Wu Xingyun quickly said: “No, you’ve barely recovered, your body is probably still weak, I’ll go on my own.”

Raising his eyebrows, Mozun leaned forward and whispered in Wu Xingyun’s ear: “Soldier, you probably don’t know much about mutant body structure, do you? Since you removed the bullet, I’ve recovered quite a lot. I’m not weak, you can try me…”

Slightly turning his head away, Wu Xingyun said: “I don’t need to test you. If you think it’s no problem, we’ll go together. Besides, we might need your help with the signal station.”

Mozun, having successfully gotten his way, grinned happily, reminding Wu Xingyun of the picture of young Mozun from thousands of years ago.

At that moment, Wu Xingyun wasn’t clear on who was sitting in the back seat of the car. The brutal enemy or the young man shining bright?

Mozun made Wu Xingyun stop the car, then climbed into the front seat, put on his seat belt, giving Wu Xingyun instructions on the dual-use vehicle.

Soon, the old car closed its windows, and a powerful blue flame erupted out the back.

The vehicle rose in the air and flew towards the Federal base.

During the flight, Wu Xingyun didn’t need to drive. Still, he stared straight ahead, feeling Mozun watching him.

Mozun’s gaze was too tender and infatuated, it made Wu Xingyun uncomfortable.

Even though Mozun was acting particularly docile, like a big meek dog, Wu Xingyun was well aware Mozun’s behavior was due partly to the fact that Wu Xingyun had saved Mozun’s life, and even more because Wu Xingyun looked exactly like Mozun’s former lover.

Wu Xingyun wanted to break the atmosphere, so he thoughtlessly asked: “Who was he?”

Mozun’s soft expression froze, gradually becoming gloomy. After a moment, he said: “I don’t want to say anything about him, and I don’t want anyone mentioning him.”

Wu Xingyun didn’t ask anything more, neither did he think about it too much. Those specific details, he didn’t need or want to know.
The car had reached the base, quickly coming to a stop. The past two days, the base had been expanding non-stop. From inside, mechanical sounds rumbled and boomed. The soldiers on guard duty were happy to see Wu Xingyun, saluting him.

Wu Xingyun’s rank was no higher than theirs, he promptly saluted back.

Keeping his hands in his pockets, Mozun just casually smiled.

The total number of people at the base was only a little more than fifty, some technical staff, who were reluctant to have contact with others, didn’t venture out. Yet, in spite of there not being many people, Wu Xingyun inhaled the scent of steel and felt a warmth. He was back in a bustling company, together with familiar comrades.

The mechanic, spotting Wu Xingyun and Mozun arriving together, immediately convened a small meeting of those remaining. There, they took the opportunity to make a lot of demands to Mozun.

""

The first to speak was Ai Lan, the psychologist, who was particular in choosing his words. After pondering what to call Mozun, Ai Lan settled on a courteous form of ‘you.’

He couldn’t speak to Mozun like they were friends, he couldn’t call him ‘leader’ or ‘master,’ and he definitely couldn’t use the Federation variations of ‘devil’ or ‘demon.’

“Hello, we’re planning on building a signal communication station, but we need more ore,” Ai Lan told Mozun, “The ore mining area you allocated us is not enough……”

Mozun maintained his careless expression, telling Ai Lan: “Don’t be so formal, you can call me by name.”

Ai Lan gave an awkward smile, unsure about Mozun’s mental state. No one wanted an offended or dissatisfied Night Shard.
But two of the brainier people present were more forthright.

Physicist Kinson blurted: “Night Demon, I want to mine the whole planet, and by the way, I’ll build a collider to prove the cosine theory. And I’m going to build a research lab, and there’s not enough people here, and I hope to build more machinery to help.”

Astronomer Pu Sishuo followed right after. “I want to set up an astronomical observatory here, then along the way make a few space observation points, and I’m going to have to get two advanced computers to calculate a simulation of the universe. I chose to come here because Yuanxing is the best observation point in the galaxy. It wasn’t easy to get here, and now I can’t go anything?!”

Wu Xingyun felt they were being a little excessive.

Such requests should be made to the Federation, to be approved at every level, for what they wanted required a lot of manpower and resources. Instead, they were pestering Mozun to enable their meaningless projects.

There weren’t many people on Yuanxing. Wu Xingyun figured Mozun probably wouldn’t permit all that waste just for pointless research.

Moreover, Kinson’s and Pu Sishuo’s attitude towards Mozun was very……Frankly, Wu Xingyun thought they’d likely provoked Mozun, who already hated the Federation, and now future projects were going to be even more difficult. Possibly even leading to the signal station not being established.

Wu Xingyun couldn’t reprimand them, though. They weren’t under his management. At the Federal level, the senior scientists, with their titles and professorships, were at a much higher level than Wu Xingyun. Thus he had no right to refute their ideas.

Stealing a glance at his husband, Wu Xingyun knew that if Mozun got hostile, Wu Xingyun would have to show his firm support for the scientists.

Yet Mozun’s loose smile stayed in place, showing no unpleasantness.

A collider is a type of particle accelerator which brings two opposing particle beams together such that the particles collide.[1] Colliders may either be ring accelerators or linear accelerators.
Colliders are used as a research tool in particle physics by accelerating particles to very high kinetic energy and letting them impact other particles. Analysis of the byproducts of these collisions gives scientists good evidence of the structure of the subatomic world and the laws of nature governing it. These may become apparent only at high energies and for tiny periods of time, and therefore may be hard or impossible to study in other ways.
