“Each Person’s Calculations”

~ Side Tiara ~

“Sigh…”

I am Tiara, the first princess of the Kingdom of Schells. In the current situation I find myself in, I couldn’t help but let out a sigh.

When I first met him, I fell in love at first sight and managed to find an opportunity to get closer to him. However, due to my impatience, I ended up being avoided by him.

I just wanted to be by his side… Of course, I understood that the reason he avoided me was because I pushed things too far. But still, being kept at a distance by the person I like was more painful than being torn apart.

“I want to meet Rolando-sama.”

Even the small wish that every lady in love held in her heart seemed impossible to fulfill, and my heart sank further. I had been trying to clear up the misunderstanding by sending messengers, but I had never received a favorable response.

I went to his mansion in disguise, but I couldn’t meet him because he was not there.

I felt the urge to question my past self about where and what went wrong, but I couldn’t do anything about it, and regrets kept surfacing.

“I could not give up because of this!”

I am the first princess of the Kingdom of Schells. I had obtained what I wanted through various means since I was a child. Sometimes through wealth, sometimes through ability. This time, I would definitely make him mine by using both.

Besides, I was not alone in this. I had allies who share the same feelings. It was Lauren, the daughter of the Byreus Margrave family, and Fahren, the daughter of the Rosenberg Duke family. Even if it was impossible alone, maybe we could accomplish something together as a group of three.

“If that’s decided, I must take action immediately.”

After that, the trio of Tiara, Lauren, and Fahren plotted to make contact with Rolando. However, their plan was completely thwarted by him, who sensed their intentions. But that’s for another story.

~ Side Zephyr ~

My name is Zephyr Phil Berberoth Schells, the king of the Schells Kingdom. I spoke in a solemn tone, but in reality, I was nothing more than a mere bureaucrat responsible for document organization.

I usually refer to myself as “I” and without Prime Minister Varaseth or the noble responsible for diplomacy, our affairs would be in complete disarray.

However, I was able to reign as king due to the longstanding hostile relationship between the Schells Kingdom and our neighboring country, the Seconds Kingdom.

Even though a ceasefire treaty was signed between our nations about ten years ago, there had been little progress in establishing friendly relations. We continued to receive information from our intelligence sources that the Seconds Kingdom was eagerly waiting for an opportunity to invade the Schells Kingdom.

Given the ongoing uncertainty, the nobles in our kingdom had formed a strong alliance, and there was hardly any noble family openly opposing the royal family.

During this time, I received unbelievable information. It was reported that the labyrinthine city of Orargrand, one of the most renowned in the Schells Kingdom, had been invaded by demons.

Just as I was about to convene a meeting to discuss the situation, another piece of information arrived. Astonishingly, it was reported that the demons had been repelled by a single adventurer.

Demons possessed such power that even a single one could threaten an entire country. It was a disaster of unimaginable magnitude, and it was uncertain if we would prevail even with the full military force of our kingdom. Initially, I thought it was some sort of monster who managed to repel them alone.

However, if it were true that someone capable of opposing the demons had appeared, it would be advantageous to establish a friendly relationship.

The first thing that struck me when I met him was how young he was. His age, which could be described as young, was reported to be 12, an age that could be described as that of a child who had not yet reached adulthood.

However, the calmness in his eyes indicated that he was intelligent and capable beyond his years, and as I had originally planned, I gave Rolando the highest title, the Mithril First Class Medal, and asked him to become my friend.

My expectations were met, and I was amazed by the incredible feats he accomplished. I considered myself fortunate to have established a friendship with him.

In the midst of all this, I naturally thought about introducing him to my daughter, Tiara. I envisioned further fostering their friendship.

I thought it would be a great success if I could attract such a talented person to my side, and I was hoping that Tiara would become his wife and take my place as the next king of this country.

However, Tiara did something unimaginable. She audaciously demanded to be engaged to him along with other noble daughters.

He staunchly refused any noble title and associated lands, likely due to his aversion to noble entanglements.

That was why I had made it my decision not to bring any marriage proposal to him to the other nobles. Nevertheless, who could have predicted that I would be caught flat-footed by my own daughter?

Since that incident, he noticeably visited me less frequently, and I lived in constant anxiety that he might drift away to another country.

Then, one day, he asked for my assistance in dealing with the aftermath of crushing a Dark Guild. He handed me a piece of paper containing detailed information about the location of the Dark Guild.

As a nation, it was our responsibility to crack down on illegal requests handled by Dark Guilds. We had already been conducting covert investigations by deploying spies. However, his swift and thorough annihilation of the Dark Guild left me feeling sorry for our spies.

Following that, he requested that I not apprehend a certain assassin, as he wanted to hire them for his own purposes. I reluctantly granted his request, but…I ended up receiving a scolding from the Prime Minister for it.

In any case, I should take some action to repair our relationship. However, I feared that any misstep might further antagonize him. Thus, I found myself unable to act, trapped in the current situation.

“I should have talked to Tiara about it…”

I muttered to myself as I continue to wrestle with the ever-growing stack of documents.
