Chapter 217 - "Belphegor's Battle, and an Unexpected Visitor"

“Belphegor’s Battle, and an Unexpected Visitor”

“Hmph, so you didn’t die from that. You truly are a troublesome opponent. As expected of the Witch of Disaster’s disciple.”

Belphegor’s words greeted me as I returned to my original location. Come to think of it, he also had “Super Analysis.” It seemed I’d need to seriously consider acquiring some concealment-related skills.

“What did you say!? Are you telling me you’re Nagartinya’s disciple?”

“It’s not as high and mighty as that. I just learned how to fight from her, nothing more.”

“So, you don’t call that being a disciple? Is it different in the human world?”

“……”

I ignored Belial’s questions. Just the thought of being taught by that loli hag was disgraceful enough, and claiming to be her disciple was beyond humiliating.

Certainly, that loli hag was strong. I’d been steadily getting stronger myself, but I still couldn’t envision defeating her. In fact, the gap between us seemed to have widened since I’d become stronger.

That just went to show how formidable that Loli Hag was, and she served as a formidable obstacle that I must eventually overcome. But for now, that was not my concern.

“Now, let’s begin.”

“Hmph, I’ll send you flying again—gah!”

I demonstrated the principle of ‘an eye for an eye’ and closed the gap between Belphegor and me. I replicated the same action he had just done to me.

Belphegor propelled in the opposite direction from where I was sent flying, collided with obstacles just as I had. He was sent flying for tens of meters.

While my retaliation might seem a bit excessive, given that our abilities were almost evenly matched, I doubt it would kill him. However, it would undoubtedly be quite painful.

“Tch, you managed to block the last impact.”

From a distance, I observed Belphegor gathering magical power in his hands and then releasing it backward. Although he had suffered some damage, it was far from being a fatal blow.

After a while, Belphegor returned. His face was filled with anger. I stared at him with a composed expression.

“You!!”

“What are you so angry about? I just returned the favor for what you did to me. That’s called tit for tat, you know?”

“I won’t forgive you anymore! I thought about tormenting you slowly, but now I don’t care! Die as soon as possible!”

Shouting such words in anger, Belphegor charged at me once again, his body fully enhanced. However, when you knew it was coming, no matter how fast it was, it was not a problem.

I also enhanced myself with body strengthening and prepared to confront Belphegor as he rushed towards me. I received his extended fist with one hand and countered with a kick. However, because our abilities were so evenly matched, he easily blocked my attack and counterattacked.

Unlike earlier, where we were sent flying in opposite directions, this time, we engaged in a close combat struggle. Despite being locked in a fierce battle, only we two could see it. It continued in the air at a high speed, like something out of a manga or anime.

I never thought I’d be engaged in such a battle, but surprisingly, it was quite enjoyable. It seemed Belphegor felt the same way, as he maintained Saniya’s appearance but had a sinister grin on his face.

“You’re quite something, kid. I never thought this battle would be so enjoyable.”

“That’s good to hear. It seems you’ve got yourself some souvenirs for the afterlife.”

“Hmph, I’ll wipe that smugness off your face soon enough! [Chaotic Catastrophe]!!”

Belphegor cast the same magic that Saniya had used earlier. However, the scale of his spell contained far more magical power than Saniya’s, and it had the potential to unleash devastating destruction, potentially obliterating the entire castle.

“Purge everything! [Holy Explasmite]!!”

As a destructive magic shrouded in pitch black approached, I began to incant another spell. It was a magic closely related to the chaos magic, a magic that was almost its opposite.

This spell was called [Holy Explasmite]. Unlike [Chaotic Catastrophe], which enveloped the target in darkness and destroyed everything with chaotic energy, [Holy Explasmite] used sacred light to cleanse the target, leaving nothing behind. It was the perfect counter to [Chaotic Catastrophe].

Both of these magics had one thing in common: they would cause massive damage if they directly hit, and they were considered ultimate magics that only a select few could use, even among those who could perform light or dark magic.

However, magic was inherently flexible, and imagination was the key. People often say that anything one could think of inside their head could be made real, and magic operated on a similar principle.

Of course, there were limits, like magic that could grant immortality or resurrect the dead, which went against the laws of nature or appeared godlike. My personal theory was that the world itself had some kind of system that restricted events from becoming too godlike or unnatural.

And the ones enforcing this system were the so-called gods, the administrators who managed the world. Otherwise, if magic could endlessly turn the impossible into reality, chaos would ensue.

My [Holy Explasmite] collided with Belphegor’s [Chaotic Catastrophe], resulting in a fierce contest of power. One was destruction, and the other was purification. These two opposing forces clashed, and their effects canceled each other out. It was as if an unyielding balance had been established between the two identical forces.

If such tremendous forces had clashed, they would have caused significant collateral damage in the surroundings. However, because they were fundamentally opposing forces and evenly matched, the only result was the mutual nullification of their magical effects.

“N-No way! My Chaotic Catastrophe and your magic are evenly matched!?”

“It seems that way. I regret it just as much as you do.”

As the realization that his magic and mine were evenly matched hit him, he displayed a look of shock and humiliation. But let me say this: I feel just as frustrated as he does.

I’d dedicated an enormous amount of time to perfecting my magic, to the point where it could be considered hellish training. To end up on equal terms with a mere demon who possessed magic talent alone filled me with indescribable emotions. Perhaps, this was what humiliation felt like.

“This is enough! I can’t afford to waste any more time like this! [Super Demonic Transformation]!!”

“If that’s how it’s going to be, then I’ll give it my all too… [Limit Break]!!”

Once again, the atmosphere in the area changed drastically. Belphegor activated his skill [Super Demonic Transformation] to temporarily enhance his abilities, while I used [Limit Break] to achieve a similar effect.

Even though his skill was of a higher rank, there was no time for me to consider the disadvantage. Both of us had pushed our bodies to the limit, likely reaching the realm of SSS+ temporarily.

But, of course, using such extraordinary techniques came with risks.

“Once this is over, I’m going to have some serious muscle pain tomorrow. I need to get used to using this skill more.”

I muttered irrelevant thoughts given the current situation. Belphegor’s furious shout interrupted my musings. He had transformed into a formidable figure, like a gargoyle with solid, stone-like muscles. When he had previously transformed, he looked like a female bodybuilder, but this time, his gender had even changed.

“Let’s go, kid. This is the final round.”

“That’s my line. Let’s go!!”

We both entered a posture for our respective charges, and at the moment when our propulsion reached its peak, an unexpected guest arrived.

“Helloooo, Rolando-kyun! Your beloved has come to visit youuuu—gubaah!!”

“Now is really not the time to be bothering us!”

The newcomer was Nagartinya, who looked like a child but was over 250 years old on the inside. Her behavior and appearance instantly irritated me, and I impulsively used the propulsion I had been storing to approach her and thrust my fist into her stomach.

Nagartinya, who had been sent flying with an uncharacteristically vulgar scream, didn’t offer much resistance. However, I felt a strange sense of unease. The impact should have been much stronger given my current SSSS+ status. But the only damage was Nagartinya getting stuck in the castle wall.

From this, I realized that she had somehow instantly redirected my attack and minimized the collateral damage. In that brief moment, she had done something remarkable. I got a glimpse of why she was called the Witch of Disaster.

As I contemplated this, Nagartinya, who had broken free from the castle wall, protested with puffed-up cheeks.

“Rolando-kyun? I know you missed seeing me so much, but isn’t that a bit too much for a first meeting?”

“……”

Certainly, she had a point. Even though it was a spur-of-the-moment reaction, it wasn’t the most considerate way to greet a girl. However, her next words shattered any sense of righteousness I might have had.

“Rolando-kyun’s intense blow made me feel something… I might not be able to sleep for a while after this.”

“It seems that you still need to meet your end at my hands.”

For now, the seriousness of the situation had been replaced by the absurdity of Nagartinya’s arrival. However, this marked a significant turning point in the unfolding events. I was beginning to understand her terrifying nature once more.
