Chapter 404: First meeting.

Bu Yiyi was looking at Chen Huan.

She was nervous and expectant.

The Small Flower Dan put forward this proposition not because of money but because she wanted to control her own future as much as possible.

If it was handed over to Shanhai Streaming and even if they weren’t as bad as Calf TV, who knew if some sinister plan would come out?

Those kinds of things couldn’t be completely avoided just because some clauses had been put on the contract.

The more powerful the company was, the more means they had to control the situation.

But they were the producers and had the right to do that so she wasn’t in the place to say anything.

But if they produced their own series, they could guarantee her own role even though it would be harder and cost money.

She didn’t want it to be like ‘Love Through Different Times’ where her role had been snatched away.

Bu Yiyi wanted to do well in the role of Xiao Yangzi and crush Gu Yingjing’s Xiao Wanzi to let her and Calf TV know that she was still their mommy!

Chen Huan knew that Bu Yiyi wasn’t someone greedy.

In the other world, she wasn’t someone that would use unscrupulous means to get money.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t claim that she would be willing to take the role of female Fang Shu for free in ‘Love Letter’.

For her, it was more important to perform great in a good role in order to become a heavenly queen.

So Chen Huan could guess most of what she thought right now.

“What do you think Mr. Lai?” Chen Huan didn’t answer yet but instead asked Lai Haijin.

Lai Haijin planned to take a back seat and let the two talk but now Chen Huan asked him so he could only speak up.

“I think both are goods. Giving it to Shanhai Streaming, we would all get paid and not all to worry about the production and advertising, the TV series will be a hit for sure. We’ll have more control and be able to refine it more if we do it ourselves. The script is so good, so it’s just a question of how much money we will earn.”

“Then what’s the con of doing ourselves?” Chen Huan asked.

“It won’t be easy to sell it, the production and advertising cost will also take a lot.” Lai Haijin quickly said, “As people said, smart people directors and actors won’t invest in their own movies, the risks are worrying. If the risks are big, everyone will suffer big losses.”

“Got it now.”

Chen Huan understood what Lai Haijin meant.

He preferred to self-produce but was unwilling to take the financial risks.

What an old fox!

With that said, he would take any benefit that he could.

He was right in both ways.

“’Princess Returning Pearl’ will normally take 28 episodes and if we produce it ourselves, around how much money would it need?” Chen Huan asked Lai Haijin.

“Well, it depends on our funding and the production plan.” Lai Haijin was experienced, “To put it simply, it would need around 30 million for the production and another 20 million for advertising. But we’re producing it ourselves so we don’t have to worry about advertisements and can just concentrate on doing the series well.”

“To do it well, you would need actors at the caliber of Bu Yiyi so I’m afraid the pay for the director, staff and other actors would exceed 40 million. Adding the 30 million in production, it would be around 70 million!”

“I don’t have to be paid and it can be used as investment.” Bu Yiyi added.

Lai Haijin wasn’t exaggerating.

Bu Yiyi was a Small Flower Dan.

She was paid 10 million for both ‘Young Di Renjia’ and ‘Love Through Different Times’.

And definitely shouldn’t take less when it came to ‘Princess Returning Pearl’ or her status would decrease.

If they wanted to hire actors at the same level of Bu Yiyi, the pay wouldn’t be low.

It was normal to pay the most popular actors in a TV series 5 to 8 million dollars.

There were also many main roles in ‘Princess Returning Pearl’.

Xiao Yangzi aside, Ziwei, Aunty Huang, Er Kang, Fifth Bro and Jin Suo were all main roles.

Then there were also the big villains such as the Empress and Mother Rong.

Then the directors must be the best since it was a work from Chu Liuxiang, could they even start to speak if they offered less than 5 million to bring their team over?

There were so many actors in total so 40 million wasn’t that much.

The better the actors, the greater the expenses.

Of course, Bu Yiyi’s pay would be saved on the production cost but the return on her investment would be greater if the TV series made a lot of money.

“There’s another way.” Seeing Chen Huan’s pondering expression, Lai Haijin said, “We can find a film company to invest by using the script, actors and even Teacher Lu’s theme songs as capital to talk about profit sharing… they would invest money and we will produce it, then we would share the money proportionally.”

“No way, that is still too restricted!” Bu Yiyi shook her head.

“Since we’re not going to Shanhai Streaming, this type of investment sharing is pointless.” Chen Huan also refused.

He may have thought about it if the Good Lord hadn’t already given him a mission.

But now that the mission was given, he would try his best to complete it.

He wouldn’t give up even if the three conditions were really hard.

“Alright!” Chen Huan hummed a bit, “Mr. Lai, help me find a good and suitable producer. The money isn’t a problem since Teacher Chu and I can invest into the production. Moreover, Yiyi, Teacher Chu and my salary can be included in the investment so the budget need wouldn’t be too much.”

“Okay!”

Lai Haijin readily agreed.

He had a lot of contacts in the industry.

“About the actors…” Lai Haijin probed, “Teacher Lu, do you have suitable candidates yet?”

“You don’t have to worry about this.” Chen Huan saw Bu Yiyi’s expression change and instantly knew what she was meaning, “Teacher Chu always decides who gets which role in his movie… I don’t have to extend on his insight, right?”

Lai Haijin was feeling embarrassed after hearing that.

He obviously wanted to put his own people in ‘Princess Returning Pearl’ since it also had more outstanding roles in it than ‘Love Through Different Times’.

But Chen Huan already said so and he couldn’t refute it.

Lai Haijin had already been taught a lesson by Wen Fan and now he knew he wasn’t as big as he thought.

If he offended Chen Huan and Chu Liuxang, and ‘Princess Returning Pearl’ was handed over to someone else to handle, he would never be able to wash away his humiliation in ‘Love Through Different Times’ and would definitely be slowly washed out of the industry.

In order to succeed and in order to keep his top agent status, he could only endure!

How did Lai Haijin rise to the top back then?

He was very genuine, took everything to the chin, bowed his heads to everyone and finally rose step by step.

Although he hadn’t been pushed around like Wen Fan for a long time and so fiercely, it didn’t mean he never experienced that.

So after receiving such a big setback, he knew that being a top ten agent didn’t mean shit!

Unless he had he controlled the most powerful force, he needed to endure and be their grandson!

He could only smile when bullied!

Unless you had big names like Lu Xiaofeng and Chu Liuxiang in their hands!

Not to mention that Chu Liuxiang was his hope to wash away his humiliation so how could Lai Haijin act according to what he was demanded?

Under the premise of getting back at the humiliation, all kinds of cooperation and concession would be worth it!

Bu Yiyi quietly gave a thumb up to Chen Huan upon seeing this.

If the casting was handled by Lai Haijin, it would be only people from his own agency.

Bu Yiyi wanted to do great and make a classic so better actors were needed for the roles.

Lai Haijin’s people were far from good enough for this big production.

At this moment, Bu Yiyi didn’t notice yet but a rift appeared between her and Lai Haijin.

It didn’t matter whether the reason she lost her role in ‘Love Through Different Times’ was because Lai Haijin offended Wen Fan or not, but after this matter happened, Lai Haijin had no way to patch things up or even retort back, this made her very disappointed.

However, Lai Haijin had been with her since the beginning and generally would do everything she wanted while providing all the logistic help so she owed him, so Bu Yiyi wouldn’t walk away just like that.

But if such things happened again several times with occasions where Lai Haijin were unable to help Bu Yiyi, it would be time to make some decisions.
