Chapter 7

She was asleep, floating in a void space, her body felt weak, her breath came ragged and her limbs held no strength. She couldn't even muster the control to move her mana, was this the result of overusing the smidgen of mana she had after waking up?

"It was worth it." She couldn't help herself and smile at Rossie's face.

The girl was a mess and looked like she was about to cry when their eyes met, she couldn't help it, looking back at all the small moves Rossie had done across the weeks she had known her...She was truly an insidious being. Who slow cooks someone like that?!?

["Welcome Inductee....Analyzing achievements..."]

A mechanical voice sounded in the void, "Who is it?" she asked, but no answer came back.

["Error, achievements not applicable. Reading logs..."]

"Well, ain't that ominous enough." This may be a problem, who was this voice?

["Found three log files, first....Elizabeth Starbright, daughter of nascent entities...Status: Purged from collective memory for protection."]

She what? "I what?"

["Second Log file: Chloe Ashcroft, daughter of failed nascent entity...Status: Dead at birth, purged from collective memory. Mission achieved at death."]

...Who was the third then?

["Third Log file: Alexanders Saintsworth, nascent GOD. Original world dead...Status: Dead, joined transmigration cycle 18 years ago."]

...Mister your information may have a couple of problems there.

["Result: Current entity has no previous achievements, blank state...Found only two applicable titles...Bestowing titles....Applicating average status according to age, body xenotype, and current Skills logged into Soul..."]

Welcome!

You have joined [The World's System], and your status information is being created, please review your current notifications and allow the information to mesh into your [Soul]!

The more you achieve and explore the more you will Grow, as a new [Inductee] you will have an accelerated growth, unlike someone who just joined [The System] please use this advantage to your utmost!

Please notice this advantage will accolate your previous experiences up until this point in your [16.7] years of life so far!

This advantage will disappear when you achieve the average level of [26] that the rest of the current [Inductees] have!

Do notice that new people joining this at [5] years old will have their own advantage since they join this world without such a bonus and without having any previous experience!

Well...Ain't that interesting...

"[Status]" She intoned trying to access her information.

["Currently you are within the World's embrace, no skill will work here."]

The voice spoke to her once more, she tried to call upon her [Shadows] and while they seemed to answer, she didn't have enough mana to move anything beyond her body.

"Huh..." Then remembering the other [Skill] she had gotten, she tried to call upon her [Lighting].

A small spark jumped from her forehead, but it dissipated upon going farther away from her body, "And yet these work just fine..." She mumbled to herself.

The voice didn't answer nor seem to say anything, and while she couldn't see anything, she had this odd feeling that someone was looking at her. The gaze of someone judging...

But since she couldn't do anything about it, she ignored it and closed her eyes, she would try to enter her [Soulscape] and spend some time there, or maybe try to exit her [Soulscape] to the real world again. She had gotten the hang of it after all.

Might as well use that skill she got after trying to do that for half a year. Wouldn't it be awful if she didn't use that to her advantage?

In the end, she woke up on her bed after not achieving anything, "*yawn*" And found a note written in cursive sitting in front of her, it was in a pink paper with a small heart on it.

She couldn't help herself but smile at the small decorations of hearts and stars on it, "I went to buy groceries and some easy-to-digest food, if you wake up before I return please push the button on your right, that will send a notification to my cellphone." She read aloud the note.

It seems that Rossie wasn't in the apartment, and she didn't have enough mana to even materialize a single shadow dragon to scout, that was getting annoying...

"[Shadow Minion]" She intoned picturing Nyx.

But nothing happened, "Huh...Is he still busy?" Wondered while getting a feeling for the amount of mana she had to work with.

It wasn't much, but maybe... "[Shadow Minion]" she tried to summon one of the smallest weakest scouts she could.

Aaaaand....Nothing happened either.

"[Status]" She tried next.

.................

Nothing... That...

"[Identify]!" Nothing.

Didn't she join this stupid [World system]? Then what did it do?

She focused on her shadows and sure enough, she could manipulate them. That seemed to be enough, since when she formed one of them into a small spear (Stabby) a blue screen showed in front of her.

Status

Name: Elizabeth Starbright

-Soulscape: X

That...."Isn't right..." She said aloud, "Where are my other [Skills]?" She tried to get a feel for them, but nothing came.

"[Inventory]!" she said and sure enough another blue screen showed up, but nothing else came into her status screen. All her things were there, or most of the things she had left inside before.

Her cellphone was in there, the one she bought before as Alice and the other her parents had given her, she brought the one her parents gave her out and as soon as it materialized...

"[Warning, unauthorized use of technology of The Nine Stars detected, teleporting away technology...]" And the stupid phone vanished.

Weird, had her parents killed three members of [The Twelve]? Or had some left after this global system thing...She could see her Mother leaving the organization if they had been in favor of the thing, she had told her plenty of stories about how these [System] worked...

And she blamed the previous Elizabeth, the girl should have come forth to her Mother about the stupid skill Alexanders had given her...Even if that left her half brain dead (more brain dead) in the attempt!

....She needed to focus on other things, so she dismissed the stupid [Inventory] tab and focused on what she could do, she didn't have that many skills before, but this new status screen had some stuff missing from it.

"Amm...." And wondering aloud what to do, she tried to channel some lighting across her fingers.

That was enough to prompt another screen notification to pop up.

Congratulation!

You have managed to master a new elemental skill!

Skill created:
-Lighting Manipulation.

The skill will be set at: 1

We encourage you to further the growth of your soul!

She could manipulate the things without doing this before though?

Was this only registering stuff as she did?

"My titles are different...And why is my age set at 1? Well, the soul thing has it right..." So many questions...

And while thinking she noticed the stupid blue screen seemed to be about to fade, was this under a timer? She needed more time!

"How do I keep you up?" Elizabeth was having a hard time coming up with anything, she didn't have nearly enough mana to try and use [Idea] to solidify her intent.

She could maybe shore that weakness by using her [Status Points] she had 63 right now after all, but her body was weak right now, and she wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to shove them all into [Wisdom] and [Intelligence] right now.

Instead, she focused the mana into her eyes to try and record every single detail of the [Status] screen and try to compare it with the memories of her previous [Status] screen, it should be saved into the library within her [Soulscape] since the thing was a Loci.

Congratulations!

You have learned a new skill!

Skill created:
-Appraisal.

The skill will be set at: 1

That...wasn't the skill she had before, "[Appraisal]" But she tried to use it anyway.

That was enough to make the blue screen to solidify once more, so that was a win? For now? She wasn't sure what to think about.

"Eli-Eli!!! I'm baaaaaaack !!!" Came the voice of Rossie as she opened the door into her room, the girl....wasn't quite as well as she remembered before.

But it was better than what she had been the first time she woke up, "Welcom....*cough*" She tried to speak only to start coughing.

Right, dry mouth, she had been trying to use skills and speak all this time and had in turn strained her mouth. "Take it easy, here..." Said Rossie while offering a cup of water with a straw already on it.

She tried to grab it, but the pink-haired girl had already placed the cup of water close enough for her to drink from the straw without having to move her hands, so she acquiesced.

"I tried to get your stuff back, but...They didn't have anything left anymore...Most of your things are still here, some guys from [The Nine Stars] came and took a few things here and there...But all the things were in order so I couldn't fight for your things...They tried to get your phone too, but it wasn't here so they left it at it." Rossie said after she stopped drinking the...liquid.

That wasn't water, it tasted different, was this girl drugging her?

....Looking to her left she found an IV drip, looking to her right she found her hand had a catheter stuck, nothing connected quite yet, but the thing had a date on it.

Rossie took that chance to say "Oh yeah, we are at September 16 right now, that one is due for another week for a change...I can't take it away since your veins are....weak." The girl said.

She could feel feeble remains of mana on the entry point of the catheter, was Rossie using magic to get the thing to stay in place? That was...luxurious.

"It's okay, at least I don't have one of those in awkward spots." She joked trying to not think about it.

Only for Rossie to turn to look at something to her left, she pretended to look over one of her IV bags "Rossie?" She asked the pink-haired girl.

"Ah right, the thing on my nose, that isn't that bad since I wasn't awake anyway." Elizabeth tried to play it smart.

But the pink-haired girl wasn't looking at her... Wait...She had been unconscious for half a year...Then....

"Oh...." It dawned on her, she moved one of her hands under the blanket into her tight, and yes. Sure enough, there was a tube taped into her tight that seemed to worm its way between her legs.

She didn't need to follow it all the way to know what it was, she had seen a few of these when she was at the clinic before the crisis, and one of the nurses had told her what it was and how it worked.

It was a Foley catheter, it was for the pee bag, she had a pee bag stuck on her...

"It's okay Eli-Eli! We will take it away as soon as you can walk!" Rossie started saying, but she couldn't help but think about how her face felt hot.

Either Rossie had placed it, and that meant that Rossie now knew her body more than she knew it herself or someone else had come in and tampered with her body while she was unconscious...She wasn't sure what was better.

It was probably the first one, but that meant that Rossie had taken care of her, and seen her at her bare lowest point...

"You only need about 10 points in Constitution, I'm sure with everything you achieved you should have enough points already [Identify]!" Rossie kept speaking and even used the skill she hadn't been able to.

"...Eli-Eli...where are your levels? And your title? And your status...."Rossie said bringing her back.

Oh right "Yeah about that... Wasn't like this for you too?" She asked, "I got a message that said that I didn't have any applicable achievements and that I got purged from collective memory or something?"

Rossie seemed to deflate at that, "Oh...No...It wasn't like that for me...I kept my titles and my most used spells turned into [Skills]...I got a privilege from one of my [Titles] that allows me to hide my [Status] from lower ranking titles too..." And she made a motion as if to show her something.

"Here, this is what my [Status] looks like." And made another motion to push something to her.

"I see..." Elizabeth nodded as if understanding something "I don't see anything here, do I need to use [Appraisal]?"

This in turn made Rossie more confused if her face was something to go by "You don't have [Identify]? I managed to get this thanks to you giving me the [Skill] before." And then with some motions as if she was writing something on the air "And what about now?"

And then she could see it, a blue screen similar and yet different to her own. This one...She got the feeling that it wasn't complete. But it showed her enough to know what Rossie meant when she said that most of her things had moved to the new [World's System].

She had earned herself quite the amount of levels..."No [Inductee] Title?" But still, wasn't Rossie inducted into the [System] too?

"Oh, that one? Yeah, we don't get it usually. Since most of us at the higher end of metahumans tended to do enough stuff to get [Achievements] the title turned our [Achievements] into [Experience] and this gave us [Levels] so we usually end at the same level of power that we had before. Unless someone rejected the [Achievements] and wanted to start from zero..." Rossie started saying before turning to look at her. "Or end up with some reason to not get those achievements..."

Oh...right, "So I am among the few that got a fresh start huh..." Elizabeth said to herself while nodding, "What do you think about my status then?" And asked as such.

Rossie had poked at her with the skill so she should have seen her status, might as well ask for advice "About that...I...Think you should get at least 20 points in Constitution...And Charisma....At least..." and mumbled.

"Done." Elizabeth willed and the points flooded into her.

She felt her body gain strength as a rush of energy flooded her body as if she had been a starving woman who found an oasis in the middle of the desert. "Then 5 points on strength, 10 agility, 10 dexterity, and the remaining between Intelligence and Wisdom." Rossie kept speaking and she continued adding the points.

"This will grant your body enough to recover, give you enough strength to move while you acclimate to the world around you, and..." Rossie looked cute while making a case for herself.

"I added the points as you suggested Rossie, I believe in your informed opinion." But she needed to stop the girl from speaking.

Even while cute she had more important things to do right now, like observing how her body seemed to start recovering in real time, she felt herself absorb mana and how this wanted to turn her organs and muscle into something more reinforced.

She *growl* also blushed as her stomach made an announcement about how she was hungry. "Right...If you slotted that many points into constitution your body will need more nutrients...Let me get some food." Rossie said while smiling at her.

Rude!

She couldn't control her physical functions!

Also, she wasn't blushing from embarrassment!

Dunno what you speak about!

"I want something solid!" Elizabeth said while Rossie walked back into the living room.

"Not unless your doctor approves it!" And screamed back at her. "...But you will get some pudding if you finish your food."

...Wasn't she getting one of those weird smoothies that they put through the weird tube on her nose?

...She wasn't complaining "Okaaaaay !" And was quite happy to accept that.

She...would have liked more points into Wisdom and intelligence if she was being honest, getting more mana to work would do wonders right now. But she trusted Rossie to know what was best. Her body was a mess and having those points in constitution would do wonders for her.

The charisma...She wondered why the pink-haired girl had asked for it, her skin was turning a healthy color and her hair seemed to turn real-time into her former glory, but surely that wasn't the reason...Right?

She didn't mind it and was quite happy with this though. But surely there was a medical reason...

She took a deep breath and felt her chest rise with the motion, it annoyed her the stupid tube on her nose, and a small fragrant smell filled her lungs, it wasn't only the smell of medicine nor the scent of her blankets, a new smell seemed to be in it too.

Was her smell? It shouldn't be, she hadn't paid attention before, but she couldn't smell this good...She had been stuck to a bed for half a year!

She hadn't taken a shower in almost a year!

...She didn't smell like someone that hadn't taken a shower...Was this the power of charisma?

Truly an insidious stat...She would dump more points later on it. And would forgive Rossie for making her waste points in the smell and look nice stat. The girl knew her stuff, truly it was a good point to have.

Who knows, maybe tomorrow she will get enough time to look through her [Inventory] and lose another cellphone!

"Here is your favorite Eli-Eli !" Rossie said while bringing a big syringe full of mysterious liquid and a small bowl half full of pudding. "You eat your pudding while I connect this."

Said the pink-haired girl while giving her the small bowl and putting on a pair of surgical gloves while messing around with her nose tube "....This is too little Rossie..." She grumbled while grabbing the spoon.

She took a tentative test and sure enough, it was normal pudding, nothing special "If you finish that one and are still hungry I will get you another bowl." Rossie said with a smile while connecting the big syringe to her nose tube.

She...didn't taste the weird liquid, but felt weird, she didn't feel the thing going down into her stomach, and yet...She felt herself as if she had eaten...

Oh...Truly an insidious evil plan "....Better make sure you finish your pudding ~" Sang her evil machinations the pink-haired girl.

"Mama was right..." Whispered Elizabeth trying her best to finish the pudding first.

Pink-haired girls are truly evil, Rossie's syringe would end faster than she could eat the pudding, so unless she drank the thing it would be impossible to finish first.

Yeah...Mother was right, pink-haired girls are a fearful existence.
