[Encounter]

“Wow… This has been lying dormant under our feet the whole time?” Andrei exclaimed, clearly taken aback.

I shared his surprise. I mean, never once did [The Rising of the Weakest Holy Swordsman] mention anything like this.

The principal chimed in as we all gawked at the temple before us. “Andrei, your words aren’t entirely accurate.”

“Your words aren’t completely correct Andrei.”

“W-what do you mean?”

“This temple isn’t dormant—it’s awake.”

The temple… was awake?

“C-can you elaborate?”

At Raul’s question, the principal continued with a solemn look, “Inside the temple, there existed a magic tool of extraordinary power. For years, it was stuck in place, immovable. However, recent advancements in research have changed that.”

“I see. Hence the relocation plan.”

There had only been a limited amount of research that could be done to it since it had been impossible to move it. But with that restriction lifted, they were going to conduct a thorough research on it in a properly-facilitated facility.

It was very likely that the kidnapper was after the magic tool, but… I couldn’t see how kidnapping Madeline and Jarvis play in all this.

There were still so many unknowns; we mustn’t let our guard down and make any conclusions based on just circumstantial evidence.

“The magic tool was taken to the new research facility a week ago… only a few people are aware of it.”

“Then, the kidnapper…”

“Must be confused because they can’t find the magic tool.”

“Then let’s hurry! Who knows what they might do to Madeline and Jarvis in a fit of anger.”

“You’re right. Let’s go.”

Our low number of fighting forces was a bit concerning, but… we couldn’t just turn around and go back, either.

Preparing ourselves, we stepped into the temple.

The inside of the temple was enveloped in an eerie silence.

But… I felt a strange presence.

“Something… is here.”

I silently nodded to Raul’s murmur.

Principal Abigail and Andrei must have sensed it as well despite not expressing agreement with either word or action. I mean, the surrounding air just felt that abnormal.

“It’s kind of… creepy.” Andrei couldn’t resist making a remark after a while of silence.

The deeper I went into the temple, the creepier the air grew.

Just what was this place?

As we proceeded further…

“――――”

Suddenly, we heard a voice.

One that clearly filled with anger.

“Principal.”

“Yeah… looks like our search is finally coming to an end.”

We moved forward, more tense than ever before.

And then… we finally encountered the kidnappers.
