Chapter 2

At 7:30 I was woken up by the loud chimes of the school’s bells.

It’s only the second day and I’m already fed up with the sound of those bells.

After stretching my arms a little, rubbing my eyes, going over to my dorm to freshen up a bit, I walked over to the Calligraphy classroom.

The classroom overall was neat and well put together, if not a bit drab. As except for the fact that there were 3 long tables in place of a large set of desks and a few students holding swords or wands, I wouldn’t have thought that the room was not of my previous world.

I took a seat somewhere closer to the back of the classroom so it’d be easier for me to doze off without being noticed.

There weren’t too many students in the Calligraphy class but I wasn’t complaining, it’s not like I’m someone who likes to go out of their way to socialize anyway.

Also none of the main cast was in it either which made some sense.

As their stats were probably so high that they wouldn’t even have considered joining this class.

5 minutes after I arrived the teacher showed up, shut up the few that were talkative in the classroom and introduced himself.

“Hello class, my name is Jeremiah Fomaru, but y'all can just call me whatever honestly.”

From a first glance he seemed like a pretty chill teacher. As he didn’t seem to really want to be here.

Which probably means the workload won’t be that bad, as he’s the one that has to grade it.

After making his own introduction he motioned for the rest of us to make our own.

Which we all did, if not a bit begrudgingly.

Eventually it got to my turn, and since I wasn’t that prepared, all I was able to muster was something half hearted and clumsy.

“Hi I’m Otto Williams, I like reading, and can’t wait to get to know the rest of you.”

Though I wasn’t too worried, as I had forgotten most of the introductions that were made today and if the other students were even just a tad like me, they’d forget mine as well.

The rest of the class period ended up passing by pretty quickly.

As all we really did after introductions was go over the syllabus, and rules for the class.

Honestly it went basically the same way one would expect a class period to go in my previous world.

Well if you disregard the fact that phones were nonexistent.

The bells eventually rang again and signaled that classes were over.

I was among the first to leave the classroom.

There were a few books in the library I didn’t get to yesterday and was itching to read.

When I got there I noticed that unlike yesterday I wasn’t alone.

There was a girl with blue hair and a wand in her mouth sitting in the middle of the room this time.

I was planning to just ignore her but then I saw out of the corner of my eye the title of the book she had just closed.

It was Metal and Maelstroms.

How could I just ignore someone who has decent taste in literature?

So after psyching myself up a bit I walked over to her.

“Hey is that Metal and Maelstroms?”

After I said that, she looked up to me with tired scarlet eyes, and tense up a little. She probably wasn’t expecting any company either.

She took the wand out of her mouth and replied in a bit of a thorny tone.

“What’s it to ya?”

Not really letting her tone get to me, I prodded further.

“Well what do you think about it, is it good, bad, okay?”

When she realized that there probably weren’t any malicious intentions behind my words she’d soften up and relax a bit.

“It was pretty good I guess, some parts are a bit weird though.”

“What do you mean by that?”

I said a bit curiously, as to me it seemed to be a pretty straightforward love story. Sure there were a lot of cliches but there wasn’t anything that made it too hard to follow.

“Well for starters why the hell did Marcus confess to Iris in front of an entire crowd and not in private?”

“Circumstances I guess. I mean Iris was just moments away from swimming all the way to Narzan.”

“Then why didn’t that idiot just confess sooner?”

“Oh I don’t know, maybe because he wasn’t ready before.”

“Well why wasn’t he huh? It was pretty damn obvious that he liked her in the first few chapters!”

At this point she abruptly got up from her chair, inadvertently causing it to crash onto the floor.

“Because he was trying to keep his relationship with her from being awkward.”

“How would it have become awkward? It was pretty clear that she felt the same way about him by the end of the second chapter!”

“Well think of it this way, I am well aware of how dumb you sound right now but you appear to be in the dark when it comes to that.”

I added with a bit of a smug expression plastered on my face.

“You little shit.”

After that exchange, the relatively coherent discussion about Metal and Maelstroms devolved into a full on yelling contest.

Time passed by pretty quickly after that and eventually the bells tolled once more which signaled the beginning of the lunch period.

Noticing that the girl began to pack up her things and prepare to leave before realizing that I was not doing the same.

“Aren’t you gonna go to lunch?”

She asked with a hint of confusion in her tone.

“Hmm? Nah I’ll just have a large dinner tonight.”

Come to think of it, I didn’t have breakfast, lunch or dinner yesterday. Eh, I guess I’ll just have to have a really big dinner tonight.

“Or maybe you could just have both a normal sized lunch and dinner today.”

There was a bit of irritation in her voice when she said that.

“I’ll have to go with the big dinner plan, since that's the plan that annoys you more.”

Not having any of it she just walked over to me and then proceeded to grab me by my arm and then forcibly dragged me with her.

“Oi let me go.”

My attempt to struggle was fruitless, which probably meant that her combat power stat was higher than 1.

Can’t say I’m really that surprised.

A few minutes later we arrived at an ornate food stall that was handing out large sized blueberry and apple pie slices.

“Alright I’ll have a piece of apple pie and this guy will have...?”

I gestured towards the side of the stall that had only blueberry pie slices.

“He'll also have a slice of apple pie.”

She said without any hesitation in her voice.

I am 100% sure that she knew damn well what I actually wanted.

After she picked up our two slices of pie she lead me down a really wet and muddy path that seemed to be untended to unlike most of the other walkways in the school.

Whatever she’s leading me to better be worth it, because my shoes got really gunked up by the boglike path.

Eventually we reached our destination. It was a secluded and quiet courtyard. A place that had been almost entirely reclaimed by nature.

She took a seat on a large stone that was covered by moss and then motioned for me to sit next to her.

Which I did as she probably would have just pulled me over there anyway had I refused.

Then I was handed a slice of apple pie, which I took with a bit of resentful look on my face.

“Your fault for not speaking up.”

“I thought you were smart enough to comprehend nonverbal communication, guess I was wrong.”

I said with a bit of scorn in my voice before taking a bite of my slice of pie. It tasted like basically what one would expect an apple pie to taste like, sweet, filling, and a bit sawdusty.

In turn she just sighed, exasperated.

A few seconds of silence then passed by while we both munched on our respective slices of pie.

It obviously did not last due to the nature of the person that I was currently sitting next to.

“By the way, what's your name?”

“Huh? Oh yeah I never did tell you my name did I? It’s Otto Williams.”

“What a boring name.”

“And yours is so much better?”

“I’d like to think so as my name is Lucia Hawthorne after all.”

I hate to admit it but she definitely has a cooler name than me.

Probably noticing my reaction to her name, a proud smile formed on her face.

“Whatever.”

I said with a smidge of indignation in my voice.

After that exchange we’d just peacefully finish our lunches, well as peacefully as we could.

10 minutes later a loud ringing of bells signaled the end of the lunch period.

“Alright I guess we have to get going now.”

She said, seeming to be slightly disappointed by the fact that lunchtime had ended.

“See ya later.”

“Don't you also have to go back to your class?”

“Hmm? Ah nah, my class ends at 11:00.”

“What kind of dark pact did you accept to achieve that? My Abjuration class ends at 4:30!”

After those words exited her mouth, she came real close to me, which exerted further pressure on me to respond.

“Picked an easy class I guess.”

“Well which one did you take?”

“Calligraphy.”

“An artisan class huh? Yeah that suits you.”

“Oi what’s that supposed to mean?”

Knowing her, there’s no way that was a compliment.

“Who knows?”

She said before shrugging her shoulders and skipping away, presumably back to the Abjuration classroom.

Sidenote, what’s an Abjuration?
