Chapter 28 Joy and Sorrow

_

Tony Wendys’s funeral was scheduled for the third day after his death.

It was held at the famous Rose Hill Cemetery in the northern suburbs of Chicago.

Although he didn’t have many relatives, quite a few people came to the funeral.

After all, he was a tennis star, albeit a second-rate one, but he still had some degree of fame.

But Josh didn’t go to join in the festivities. Although others didn’t know, he knew how this guy died very well.

It was awkward to pretend to mourn for the person he had killed.

So he just sat in the car in the distance, playing the role of a driver, waiting for Margaret.

It took over two hours to send off all the mourners who had come to pay their respects before Margaret got in the car’s back seat.

“How was it? Are you tired?” Josh asked Margaret through the rearview mirror.

Margaret was dressed conservatively in an elegant black dress, wearing a black veil and a small hat, a delicate and elegant pearl collar necklace around her neck, and black stockings, making her look very graceful and elegant.

Although, according to the old saying in China, women should be pretty and wear white when mourning, black is not bad either, and it has a kind of mysterious feeling that makes people want to explore.

“I’m fine. Everything was done by the pastor and the funeral home. I was just there to show my face. What could be tiring about that?” Margaret shook her head to indicate that she wasn’t tired.

“By the way, what about that guy?” Josh nodded and looked towards a young man in the distance who was looking over at them.

He was also there to attend the funeral, but he had been trying to get close to Margaret since before.

So Josh asked about him.

And Josh wasn’t seeing this guy for the first time.

The last time Josh followed Margaret, he saw this guy at the jewelry store. Apparently, he was related to Uncle John, whom Margaret had mentioned, and he had been trying to court Margaret the whole time.

“He? He’s Uncle John’s second son, David Leibler, a notorious playboy who had been in charge of their family’s business in New York for a while before returning recently. I had the misfortune of running into him when I saw Uncle John. He heard I was preparing for a divorce and has pestered me ever since. I was very clear with him last time, but he still won’t give up.” Following Josh’s gaze, Margaret frowned and answered with disdain in her words.

This disdain wasn’t feigned because, in Margaret’s eyes, this David Leibler was actually the same type of person as the late Tony Wendys.

Despite being only in his early thirties, he had already been divorced twice. The reason for the divorce was that after losing interest in his wife, he began to cheat and create all kinds of salacious news.

And this guy was even more of a player than Tony Wendys.

Tony Wendys is at least a sports star, and he pays some attention to maintaining his image in public.

But David Leibler was a rich second-generation who played without restraint.

So under the circumstances of having Tony Wendys as a cautionary tale, Margaret naturally couldn’t have any good feelings for him.

“…Do you want me to teach him a lesson?” Hearing Margaret’s words, Josh couldn’t help but frown and suggest.

Wow, Margaret just got her hands on this diamond VIP ticket a few days ago, and now someone else is trying to steal her thunder. How can he stand it?

Why not let this guy keep Tony Wendys’ company?

“Forget it. Just stay away from him. After all, Uncle John has been good to me. It won’t look good on our faces if we make too much trouble.” Upon hearing Josh’s dangerous idea, Margaret immediately stopped it.

After this time together and the incident with Tony Wendys, Margaret understood that this little man she had picked up on the side of the road seemed to be a mild-mannered and harmless little lapdog on the surface. Still, deep down, he was a barbarian forest wild wolf with a hint of ferocity.

Of course, Margaret didn’t distance herself from Josh because of this. She actually loved this bad little man even more.

Perhaps this is what they call the Bonnie and Clyde syndrome.

Due to this, Margaret was afraid that if Josh were to “persuade” David to quit, David would end up like Tony Wendys.

Margaret didn’t care about Tony Wendys’ life or death, but David’s father, John Leibler, had been kind to her, and she didn’t want the kind old man to suffer the loss of his son because of her.

Although Josh was unhappy about the other party trying to steal his girlfriend, he didn’t say anything more since Margaret had spoken up. He started the car, leaving the cemetery.

Out of sight, out of mind.

As a time traveler, Josh didn’t have a sense of belonging to this era.

But with Margaret, a woman who was devoted to him, appeared, the situation changed.

So it didn’t matter what other people thought. He had to take care of Margaret’s emotions.

After leaving their destination, they didn’t return to Margaret’s mansion but returned to Evanston’s love nest.

That mansion was bought by Margaret and Tony Wendys after they married. After completely breaking up with Tony Wendys, she had no attachment to the mansion and even felt slightly disgusted.

So she simply moved with a few servants who had been with her for many years to Evanston and lived with Josh.

Anyway, Evanston’s house was not small, with a full eight rooms, which was more than enough.

As for the fact that the mistress of the house had just lost her husband and was living with another young man, the servants didn’t show any unusual expressions.

Because these servants were originally left by Margaret’s father and were not on the same side as Tony Wendys.

After greeting the Tommy family next door, who were having afternoon tea in the yard when they got home, Josh hugged Margaret around the waist.

“Just wait. I’ll go change my clothes!” Margaret slapped the little man’s mischievous hand in a bad mood.

“No need to change. I like you in this outfit.” But it was no use. Josh grabbed Margaret’s arm and whispered in her ear.

Feeling the hot breath in her ear, Margaret quickly gave in.

Seeing the delicate body in her arms not resisting, Josh lifted her up and ran up the stairs with her, despite her screams.

However, just as Margaret and Josh were celebrating that they could be together without any worries in the future.

In a small tavern on the other side of the city, the mood of another group of people was not so good.

These people were originally planning to rob the jewelry store. Still, their plans were disrupted by Tony Wendys, who unexpectedly came along. Now, these four robbers, who have inexplicably added a murder to their hands, are in a tough spot.

No one would be happy if this happened to them.
