On this bright spring morning, a good day for new beginnings, the latest World Champion eyes up his next challenge.

The challenge remains stoically silent, contemptuous of the threat it faces.  But still tirelessly guarding great riches.

The bird can smell food.  Glorious food.  Rotting offal, the smell rising on the breeze like the finest perfume.  Protected only by an old wooden box with a heavy lid.

A lid far too heavy for a crow to open.  A normal crow, that is.

"What cher doing to my compost heap, avian?  Don't you know that's not yours?"  A middle-aged human bangs through his back door, arms full of garden weeds.  Around him is his back yard, a couple blossoming fruit trees, some furrows of dirt, ready for planting, and an incredibly complex arrangement of sticks, boards, twine, wire, and random odds and ends, all put together by the exhausted black bird lying on top of the compost box.

"It.. smelled so good, I had to get in.  You've got good food in there."

"Well.. hand me your ID, avian, and we'll see what's up about that."

ID?  Right, the coin thing.

Retrieving it from wherever seems easy.  Think about the coin, and there it is, gripped in the beak.  It takes just a moment to hand it over to the farmer.

Who holds it close and begins to chuckle.  He leans against his fence, chuckling at something.  A moment later, he hands over a coin of his own.

"I am not particularly strong for a human.. Bird." He says, stumbling slightly over the unfamiliar word.  "Yeah, I'll open the compost heap for you, but you should probably get a job.  Something where you won't have to steal from people who could kill you by sneezing."

It's good advice, but for the moment, all the bird can think about is how delicious the intestines are.  And the mold growing on them just adds the right amount of spice.

One good meal later, the slightly overstuffed bird decides to examine the town first, checking things out from above.  The people look mostly human, although there are some odd differences.. strange hair colours, unusual clothing, what looks like weapons and armour, and horses walking around.  Some of them have humans on top of them.

They also look up at the sky much more than humans from the old world.  And there are no other birds, no flying creatures.  Just the black crow-like one.

Hmm.  I might be rarer than that deity suggested.

Most of the buildings are homes, and most of them have extensive gardens for growing food.  Some have signs naming who lives there, and what kind of work they do.  Towards the middle of town there are more homes without gardens, and some buildings that don't seem like homes at all.. there is a temple, there is a "tinker's guild", a strange building with a few small windmills poking out the top.  They're spinning rapidly despite there being little wind.  At the centre of town are one inn, one restaurant, and three larger permanent structures.  One is the "Benanda Town Guard Post", the second is the Town Hall, and the third is the "Kuzenko Company Factory."  There is also a central fountain, full of some kind of unusual, extra-sparkly water.

Well.. there's lots to look at.  But what looks like the most fun?

Lets start with the factory.  That's a word for a place where people do work, right?

The bird then dives around the outside and swoops in for a closer look.  People, humans, working at desks.  No weapons or armour, but still lots of fancy clothing.  They mostly look bored.  The windows are shut tight, although the chimneys seem promising.  There are horses on the ground floor, inside a large stable that proves less secure, allowing the bird a chance to wiggle inside.  A couple of the horses are quite tired, and are drinking and resting after some kind of fast journey.  The others seem almost as bored as the humans inside.  On the ground there are a few mice.. perhaps they'll make a fine meal tomorrow.

This place certainly needs something to liven it up.  Hmm..
