Chapter 29

I grabbed the book I needed and left the hidden room before my husband could change his mind.

As Shar tinkered with the wall, the bookshelf started to move again, blocking the hidden passage.

(You’re right, you can’t show that collection to anyone.)

When I looked at Shar, he was back to his usual detached Count face.

He might be dressed up, but he was really just an Auroramania.

From now on, I’ll look at him warmly.

“This book is so thin, I’ll just translate it quickly.”

“Don’t overwork yourself. I’m in no rush.”

“I’ll be fine.”

We were in the study, so there was a desk and a chair.

“I’ll have it done by bedtime.”

As we were talking, there was a knock at the study door and Hue’s voice came through.

“Shar, Val is back from his mission. We’d like to report on that, and also we’ve captured Gordon.”

Gourdan seemed to have been captured.

I was concerned because it was a capture instead of fetch.

Shar glanced at me for a moment, but then said simply, “Come in.

(In the past, I thought he would have told me to get out, but I wonder if he’s changed his mind.)

Meanwhile, Hue and someone else entered.

It was the first time I had ever met this Val.

“We’re back, Master Shar.”

A man identical to Hue in face and height appeared. Only his red and brown mottled hair was different from Hue.

Yet, his bearing was more daring than Hue’s, who was more reserved.

(Are they brothers?)

Shar, who was acting as if nothing had happened, turned to Val and said pompously.

“Well done.”

Then he turned to me caringly.

“Ram, this man is Hue’s twin brother, Val. He’s mainly responsible for organizing the work outside.”

Val smiled and opened his mouth.

“Nice to meet you, Madam. I do know you, though. I was the one who investigated the Baron’s family when you got engaged.”

How could I put it?…His words sounded tricky.

“Master Shar, Gordon is rolling in the hallway. He was trying to bring a magical beast into the Mercure grounds. I cast a restraining spell on him and he fainted easily.”

“Hmph, silly of him. Ram had just lectured him, and now he’s harboring a grudge…”

“Ram? Madam…lectured Gordon?”

Val’s eyes sparkled with interest, and his gaze shifted from Shar to me.

“Oh, so your Madam, who can only keep the lights on, stood up to Gordon?

I wondered if he was trying to provoke me.

The belligerent look in his eyes made me realize that he didn’t have a good impression about me.

Before I could speak, however, Shar chided Val.

“Gordon’s training went too far. Ram has only corrected it.”

I didn’t know how the wind was blowing, but Shar was taking my side more and more often.

“Hey, Madam, I’d like to see the technique you used to defeat Gordon.”

His eyes, the same color as Hue’s, shone with a mysterious light.

I let out a sigh and replied to Val. I wasn’t about to play into his hands.

“Why should I go through the trouble of performing a throwing move just to show you? I’m going back to my room now, so if you have something to report to Shar, you can finish it.”

Since the study was going to be used as a debriefing place by Shar and the twins, I decided to write the translation of Aurora’s book in my room.

But Val did not back down.
