“What time do you think he’ll be here?”
“Ah… He should be here early I think?”
“I guess so too.”
Yesterday, after we parted from Chris-san, we took a leisure stroll around the city before we stayed the night at the same inn we had stayed at before. Then after I woke up in the morning and ate breakfast, I asked Fer-san and Sig-san about Chris-san and they gave me that answer.
Is that so?
It seemed Chris-san didn’t get along well with Jair-sama and the others but fortunately it seemed Chris-san had a good relationship with his other siblings. So I think Chris-san might’ve come late because he wanted to spend more time talking with his siblings.
“………. Talk about him and he will appear, huh?”
Sig-san’s ears twitched and then he grinned as he said that.
“Huh?”
Talking?
I tilted my head, not really sure what he meant when the door to our room was slammed open.
“Ren-chan!”
“Whoa!”
Someone entered and immediately hugged me.
“Ah~ It’s been a day, Ren-chan~”
“Huh? Chris-san? Is it alright for you to leave your home now?”
“Yeah, it’s fine now~ Putting my parents aside, you should meet with my young brothers and the others next time~”
“Yes. Of course I don’t mind that…”
The one who hugged me was Chris-san. He hugged me so tightly that I had trouble breathing. Oh, I wonder if Sig-san’s ears twitched because he could hear Chris-san coming in?
Chris-san said I should meet with his younger brothers and the others next. I didn’t get many chances to talk with them yesterday and I really had no idea what kind of person Alex-sama was either. So I nodded my head while still being held in Chris-san’s embrace but…
“Chris, Ren-kun is still eating. Let him go.”
“Ah, sorry about that~ I’ve already eaten so Ren-chan, take your time eating, okay?~”
“Yes.”
I was still in the middle of eating breakfast. Noticing I was in trouble, Fer-san reprimanded Chris-san. Hearing that, Chris-san quickly released me and sat down on the empty chair.
“Huh? Today’s meal is Ren-chan’s home cooked food?”
Chris-san was sitting on the chair, tilting his head to the side as he stared at our half-eaten breakfast.
“Yeah. We said we wanted to eat Ren’s food so he brought it out for us.”
This morning we were having japanese style food since these two had said they wanted to eat my food I made.
Our meal today consisted of onigiri, grilled white fleshed fish, egg rolls with leeks and miso soup with radish in it. Oh and we also had pickled carrots and cucumbers. Our meal would be perfect if we had natto with us but although natto was available in this world, natto was only made in a limited area so I couldn’t get it in Pedrell.
Well, it’s a food that not everyone likes to eat. I’d love to eat it if I could but if I couldn’t then it’s fine too.
But still, how did Chris-san know I made these foods?
“What! Not fair! Ren-chan, give me something to eat too~”
“Chris, didn’t you say you’ve already eaten?”
“But still!”
Fer-san looked exasperated as he stared at Chris-san who was pouting at us.
Hm~ Since Chris-san had already eaten, maybe I should give him a dessert instead?
“Then… Would you like to have something sweet?”
“Yeah, yeah. Give it to me give it to me~”
“Yes. Here you go.”
I stood up from my chair to get my magic bag. Then I took out a serving of tofu bavarois that I had planned on serving to them after we ate our meal. It was a simple dish made from tofu, milk, gelatin and sugar but since I strained the tofu beforehand, this dish felt so smooth and not to mention, it was healthy too and refreshing too. Since the color of the tofu bavarois looked a little empty on its own, I also added a little bit of strawberry sauce.
“Delish~ Is this strawberry? The strawberry tastes a little bit sour so the sauce compliments with the dish well~”
Chris-san received his plate and started eating. His cheeks then began to loosened, forming into a smile as he continued to eat his fill.
“I’m glad to hear you like it. I will also have some ready for the two of you after you finish eating.”
I guess the food suits his palate?
Although I did say ‘gelatin’, it was actually the juice made from a plant. At first, I didn’t really understand what kind of plant it was but after hearing the explanation from the shopkeeper, I now knew this plant could be used to make jelly and other similar stuff.
“Yummy!”
“Fufu~ This is also made from tofu.”
“I didn’t know you could eat tofu in this way…! It’s very delicious.”
Sig-san and Fer-san also finished their meal and started eating tofu bavarois. They sing high praises for the dessert. In Alsar, they either ate tofu in a simple way like ate it cold or put it in miso soup or ate it in mapo tofu. They didn’t eat it as a dessert like this.
Maybe Ken-san’s store had tofu dessert but generally, the people in Alsar never had tofu as dessert so it was given that they’d sound so surprised just like Fer-san. Although they had the typical Japanese ingredients, they still had a pretty simple way of eating food in general.
“Ren-chan, what’s the plan for today?~”
Chris-san asked me after he finished eating tofu bavarois.
“Umm… I want to go shopping. Tomorrow we’re planning on going to visit the orphanage where Sig-san was raised after all. Sig-san, there are small children there, right?”
I had been thinking about this since yesterday so I asked Sig-san for confirmation.
“Yeah. From a few months old babies to 17 years old children are there. The children will go out from the orphanage after they become an adult. Well, in reality most of them go out before then though.”
I see. So they would stay at the orphanage until they became an adult, which was 18 years old. Generally speaking, the people here finished school when they were 12 so I guess from then on, they already started looking for a job. Hence why a lot of them left the orphanage even before they turned 18 I guess?
“How many children are there?”
“The number of children they take care of there fluctuates so I don’t really know how many they are but I guess it should be around 30 to 40 children.”
“How many employees are there?”
“About 10 but… What about it?”
I continued to ask questions. Sig-san must be wondering why I asked those questions. I could see the question mark floating on top of his head.
“Umm… I’m thinking of bringing something that can make them happy or maybe some snack… I hope I won’t be a bother if I do that?”
“Oh, you definitely won’t be a bother. I’m sure the little ones are going to be happy.”
If there were a lot of small children, I wanted to bring some snacks or presents for them. The number of people and children were already within my expectations so there was no problem with it.
I wasn’t really sure if they could accept it though so I asked Sig-san about it just to be sure. Sig-san then smiled and nodded his head, so I guess I’d be getting some snacks or presents for them!
“Then let’s buy something for them. Actually when we visited Fer-san and Chris-san’s family, I also wanted to bring something but….”
I guess we should just go shopping for today?
“Ah…. If it’s at Fer’s place then no matter if it’s food or present, anything we bring will definitely go through inspections first, huh~”
“Yes….”
I actually wanted to bring something too when I visited their family but…. I had heard beforehand that Fer-san’s family was royalty so they had strict procedures because they needed to be sure that someone didn’t put anything strange in the food given to them. So for that reason, I decided to not bring anything for them for the time being.
“Even if that wasn’t the case with Chris’s family, he must’ve already told you that no matter what kind of thing you bring, they will always find something to complain about it.”
“Yes.”
I already told Chris-san about my intention but then he said.
“There’s no need to bring anything. We’re going to go back right away and it’s going to be more trouble than it’s worth anyway~”
So he said. In the end, I decided to not bring anything there. I’d be meeting with the brothers and sister next time so I’d bring something for them when I met them.
“Then in exchange for our part, let’s bring them something that can make them happy~”
Chris-san said so while patting my head.
“Yes! Sig-san, are there a lot of the little ones?”
I wonder what their age range was? If there were a lot of little ones, then I needed to bring more sweets but if there were bigger ones, I needed to bring less sweet foods.
“Hmm… Let’s see… Most of them are under 10 years old. When I went to visit them before I went to Calhea, there were 3 babies and about 20 kids under 10. Even though the orphanage allows children up to 17, there are only a few children staying there until that age.”
“I see… Then something sweet will make them happier! Hm~ What should we bring?”
Then I guess we should focus on sweet things? There was also the possibility of the bigger kids not liking sweet things so I should look for something else in the city for them. Fufu~ Somehow I started getting excited.
Let’s start preparing to go out right away after we finish eating!
