Chapter 66: A Man When Dead is Only a Tool

The Qin eventually lost the war. Lord Xin Ling of Wei, Wei Wu Ji leading the alliance defeats the Qin army under the city wall of Han Dan.

The remnants of the force led by Wang He retreat back to Fen city, nearly three hundred thousand soldiers lost.

Bad news follows as the Han forces join the alliance against Qin.

Despite Bai Qi’s death that removes the excuse of justice to wage a total war against Qin, the alliance still poses a great threat to the kingdom.

It has recovered the He Dong County, Tai Yuan County and even Chang Ping, Shang Dang, all of which conquered by Qin in the past.

The King of Qin nurses a great hatred when he has no choice but to deliver one of his sons to Zhao as a hostage.

Since the Qin has compromised, the alliance that was only temporarily put together for the purpose of self-preservation becomes loose as no kingdom is willing to be the vanguard that bears the repercussion from Qin, even though it has been weakened already.

Every kingdom with their own axe to grind attempts to shirk their respective responsibility, resulting in the pause of aggression against Qin.

“Detestable…”

“TRULY DETESTABLE!”

The king of Qin tosses the bronze goblet at the ground hard. Followed by a brittle sound, the goblet cracks.

“Zhao, Wei, Han, Chu…” By each kingdom name he utters, the king’s expression turns colder.

After a few ragged breathes, the king of Qin inhales deeply and dejectedly falls to his seat, staring at the roof blankly.

If not for the Lord Wu An’s strategy, all the efforts that Qin has made would be in vain…

Gua is truly wrong.

But it does not change anything; Bai Qi is already gone.

Just as Bai Qi suspected, after his death, the alliance that has defeated the Qin army multiple times and recovered lands starts to unravel. As their aggression starts to slack off, Qin earns valuable breathers.

If Gu Nan is present in the palace, she may have noticed that the history has slightly shifted off course.

Bai Qi died earlier than he did in history and was not murdered by the king. Hence, Bai Qi’s plan was able to be carried out smoothly, resulting in a sooner breakdown of the alliance and less lands lost.

“Gua should really thank them for their reservation on attacking us. Therefore, the great kingdom of Qin is not yet devastated…” When he finally returns to his normal self, murderous gleam flicker in his eyes.

The Qin will bounce back after a few years. When it does, he will revenge Bai Qi’s death personally.

The king of Qin orders Gu Nan to send Ying Yi Ren off to Zhao. *Ying Yi Ren is one of the king’s sons. *

Gu Nan has the strength of almost a thousand jin in addition to Bai Qi’s decades of chi, and hence, despite her in experience at manipulating chi and martial artis, her inhuman strength can make up for whatever deficit she has in fighting. *One jin is half a kilogram. *

Even the king himself was astonished by her strength after sparing with her.

Unmatched in the Xian Yang city — that is the evaluation the king gives Gu Nan regarding her personal fighting prowess.

Ying Yi Ren.

The first time upon hearing this name, Gu Nan finds it familiar, and after some times of pondering she remembers that this is the young man who she met at the Dong Zhan Pavilion.

Can’t believe it is him. Another familiar once again.

On the day of departure, Gu Nan wears the cloak of mourning white color, sticking out from the formation, yet unrecognized by Ying Yi Ren due to the bronze mask over her face.

She walks by Ying Yi Ren’s side, escorting him to Zhao in person.

The free spirit he once possessed when they first met has disappeared, in its place grief of a man abandoned as a useless tool.

He looks like a dead man.

Watching him go far, Gu Nan digs deep in her mind searching for information about this man in history.

The history does not mention too much on this man. Yet, Gu Nan vaguely remembers one thing about him, which is that he will be the father of Ying Zheng, the first emperor of Qin.

Taking a deep look at the figure furthering away, Gu Nan pulls back Blackie and returns.

Things have sprung into chaos outside, but however chaotic outside may be, Gu Nan only has to perfect one thing, which is training her soldiers.

“Two hundred and one!”

A twig in her hand, Gu Nan casually moves among the soldiers pushing up from the ground, and whenever someone seems to slag off hits him hard.

Gu Nan’s strength, even though reserved, is no joke when she hits a soldier.

Their clothes are completely soaked wet by sweat to the extent of squeezing out a bucket of water.

Moreover, they have to be wary of Gu Nan who is capable of whipping anyone in armor straight into ground.

Right now, they are in an abnormal pose, face down, body straight, and two hands supporting their body up. By each count from the general, they have to push themselves up.

Anyone from the future can tell that this is pushups which is unheard of at the current time.

“I say,” a soldier barely holding himself up with trembling shoulders whispers to another middle-aged soldier by his side, “boss Gao, isn’t this general just torturing us for fun? No body trains soldiers this way.”

Upon speaking, he almost goes short on breath and hurriedly pins his body in place before it hits the ground. “I am almost out of gas.”

Gao Jin, gasping for breath, gives the complaining soldier a glance. “I saw the king’s edict she brought with; whatever she wants to do with us, as long as we pass the selection process, we are spared of our guilt.”

“We can even be free man. Don’t you want to see your wife at home?”

“How can I not?” Pouting, the soldier loses focus in his eyes as if pondering over something. A moment later, he forces a bitter smile: “Maybe she has already remarried.”

“She said she will wait for you so she will wait for you!” Gao Jin gives him a stare, his limbs out of strength shaking uncontrollably. “Are you looking down on your woman?”

“Don’t you say that!” The soldier spits on the ground. “She is the best woman in the world!”

Gao Jin smiles. “That’s it.”

“Clap!”

A twig whips on Gao Jin’s shoulder, although hurtful, not too hard to affect recovery.

Gu Nan’s voice pours into his ears.

“Stop talking!”

“Two hundred and thirty-three!”
