Chapter 419

When we Decide to do Something, We Do It With All Our Might

Three hours later. I was in Ninja Armor, a lightweight power armor, with a variable-power laser launcher, and Mei with the remaining battle bots on the ship, waiting at the back of the raid location – apparently those bastards were calling themselves “Brady’s” or something like that.

Heinz and Zeke showed up a little later.

“Excuse me, big bro?”

“What?”

“Are you trying to start a war?”

“Yes, and what?”

What did they think I was going to say? When I decide to kill, I will kill. There would be no compromise. I would do it with all my might. Especially since we were dealing with people who were connected to space pirates. You never knew what might pop up. I wouldn’t be surprised if some unidentified biological weapon suddenly showed up.

“Are you guys okay with just equipping yourself with that kind of poor equipment?”

I mean, did they think I was fooling around? No one would go on a raid with nothing but their everyday clothes, which I doubt might be made of anti-laser fibers, and have a so-so laser gun. Are you kidding me? One lethal laser shot and that’s it.

“I think big bro is just being overzealous…” (Zeke)

Zeke said with a look of dismay.

“You guys should never go out in the open. I’ll keep an eye out for firebugs, so just scavenge for anything that might give us a clue that may lead us to another base.”

“What, can we not take money or anything else we find with us?!”

“If it was me, I’ll be very careful what I take, because it may link me with something that would make me end up locked in a prison colony.”

“Ah, we will be careful, sir.”

Zeke nodded with a puzzled look on his face, his face full of joy for a moment. Well, these guys probably have a safe route or two to handle even the most dangerous items, but just in case.

“Master. It’s time to start the operation.”

“Alright. Then let’s make our first move loud and flashy, and show off as much as we want. You don’t have to go on the offensive, just pin down the ones that fight back.”

“Yes, sir. I’ll leave the rest to you.”

Mei nodded with a variable power laser launcher wired directly to her generator. When it came time to fight, it was as heavy as a heavy machine gun, but she wielded it like a twig. Mass x velocity = destructive power, so anyone hit by that thing in melee would be in terrible shape even if she didn’t fire it.

“We’re sneaking in from the back, big bro.”

“Do as you please. Oh, and don’t lose the beacon ring for friend/foe identification. You guys might end up getting hammered by lasers the moment you encounter the noble’s raiding party without it.”

“”We’ll never take it off.””

On their arms, both of them were wearing bracelets that emitted a blue light. That was the beacon ring I mentioned, a piece of equipment that prevents accidental misfires by transmitting a friendly-enemy identification signal. It was an excellent device that would prevent lasers from being fired even if a laser gun or laser rifle was triggered at a friendly unit equipped with the beacon ring.

“Okay, it’s time. Let’s fire a volley with the launchers. Do it with a bang.”

“Aye, aye sir.”

At the same time as Mei’s reply, the battle bots on standby simultaneously activated their weapons and pointed their barrels – grenade launchers mounted on their Demolition Backpacks – at the target facility.

“Fire.”

A spontaneous, rumbling sound was heard. The next moment, a green light exploded on the wall of the target facility, and hot air rushed toward us.

“…Seriously?”

“Holy heck, man, that’s bad.”

The plasma grenades fired from the five military battle bots demonstrated their power without mercy, burning and melting the walls and vaporizing them. The red-hot round holes were clearly visible even from here.

“Keep up the good work. Let’s go.”

“Oh, you’re going to enter from there?”

“Yes, that’s right. Come on, let’s go!”

“Take care, fellas!”

Kicking Zeke’s butt with my Ninja-armor-equipped foot, I headed for the right side of the Bradys’ hideout, which had not been bombed by the plasma grenades. Alright, time for a break-in robbery.

“You son of a–!”

I think he’d better pull out the laser gun at his waist instead of trying to intimidate me. I thought to myself, as I mercilessly pointed the gun at the chest of the three menial-looking thugs and pulled the trigger.

“Nngh!”

A booming sound was heard, and a blue-white lightning flash turned the room completely white for a moment. Then, a muffled sound of a body falling down echoed through the room.

“I’ll never get used to this smell.”

“It was a powerful electric shock that could almost kill them. This result can’t be helped.”

I, wearing Ninja armor, could not feel it, but Heinz and Zeke, in the flesh, could smell a pretty bad odor to their noses. If the human body was slightly scorched and urine was dripping, well, it was no wonder it smelled bad. It seemed that some of them not only urinated but also leaked feces.

“You’re just being considerate, aren’t you, by not killing them without question?”

“Do you think so?”

“Yes, I think so.”

If I wanted to kill them without question, I wouldn’t use a Tesla gun like this, I would use a laser shotgun that could fire multiple lethal laser beams at once, or I would use a sword to cut them in half.

Well, this wouldn’t guarantee that they wouldn’t die, though. There could always be a chance that they would die from the Tesla Gun. Well, it was still a lot better than a laser gun. If they died, they were simply out of luck! That was the kind of weapon it was. It could be considered a low-lethal weapon, rather than a non-lethal weapon. No, maybe medium lethal. Well, there may be a margin of error around those levels.

“Seriously, I didn’t expect big bro to be so strong?”

“I’m a professional, you know.”

I’d really like to just ride around in ships, but lately I’ve been doing a lot of these things. Thanks to that, it didn’t feel like I was wasting my time improving my white-armor skills…and recently I’ve been able to use my psionic abilities for white-armor combat under Kugi’s guidance.

In addition, Ninja armor was designed with high-grade passive sensors for fighting in confined spaces such as this. It allowed me to hear not only the sound of footsteps, but also the sound of clothing rubbing against the body, the sound of a weapon being held, and the direction of the weapon. It even supported me in my training.

“So, did you find anything good?”

“We’ve got something that might contain a data cache.”

“We’ve also got some cash.”

“Keep up the good work.”

Both of them were packing various things they picked up in a large shoulder bag that they seemed to have picked up around there. Heinz was apparently scavenging for data-related items, while Zeke was scavenging for cash.

“Oh, our allies have arrived from the front.”

I told Heinz and the others as the people who were sending out the identification signals for allies were approaching. These people have no units that could identify them visually, so signals were the only way we could tell if they were friend or foe.

“Good work. I’ve neutralized a few of them, can you deal with the rest of them?”

“Yes, sir. We will be investigating the area for the rest of the day.”

“Copy that. We’ll head up to the upper floor. We’re looking for anything that might give us some useful data, but double-check the place just in case we missed something.”

After a brief communication, we split up with the raiding party that Hartmut had prepared and resumed our own activities.

“…They were a grueling bunch of jerks, weren’t they?”

“I heard they’re planning to clean up the rest of the troublesome guys with this opportunity as well. I think you are lucky to have followed me.”

The power of the nobility was overwhelming within the empire, after all. If they really started using violence, outlaws such as the mafia, gangs, and yakuza would never be able to compete with them. Their main power ultimately lied in violence.

“Come on, let’s continue the cleanup. We’ve got to destroy these guys who call themselves the Bradys or whatever by the end of the day.”

“Yes, big bro.”

“Yes, sir.”

With the two nodding in tow, we continued our search of the hideout, again in a three-man team…or rather, in a formation where I was the only one in the front.
