Chapter 29: I’ll jump C position for you (1)

“Taotao! Taotao!”

A group of anxious players was gathered around Ruan Tao, who had collapsed on the ground. They had just been making their final preparations, who would have known Ruan Tao would suddenly faint as she reached the step and fall.

Everyone was terrified. Although the stairs were not high, Ruan Tao always had a weak constitution. No one could tell whether her fall was serious or not, and as she had fainted backstage, nobody was clear about the current situation.

Ruan Tao’s teammates were panicked and nervous, almost crying; not only were they worried about their captain but it was also their turn soon. Ruan Tao was injured and they didn’t know the gravity of it yet, what could they do?

Ruan Tao’s face was pale and she was on the ground, holding her ankle in pain. Her forehead was sweaty and her messy hair stuck to her face. She cut a sorry figure.

“It hurts!”

Ruan Tao gritted her teeth, the intense pain making her gasps and tears flowed out instinctively.

As soon as the director heard about the accident, he hurried to check the situation, and the medical team that had been on standby also rushed to Ruan Tao. After he confirmed she had injured her ankle, the doctor shook his head with a serious expression.

“It should be a sprain but she needs to go to the hospital to make sure there is no ligament damage or a fracture. In any case, she won’t be able to do any vigorous exercise in the next few days.”

After he was done speaking, the expressions of everyone around him sank, especially Ruan Tao’s teammates. Their faces became stiff and their bodies slightly trembled. What should they do now? The girls’ faces were pale and they were lost.

They wanted to ask for help but everyone was focused on the injured Ruan Tao. Nobody had time to care about their meltdown and they could only step aside in silence, to make way for the rest of the staff and let them send their captain to the hospital.

“Is Ruan Tao okay?”

“It’s okay, the body is the most important thing. It’s okay, it’s okay…”

After learning she could not go on stage, Ruan Tao burst into tears and could not stop. Her eyes were red and her voice was hoarse; she was holding her knees, a little pitiful.

The staff gathered around her and comforted her. They tried to calm her down and have her go to the hospital for treatment.

They had all seen her efforts these past few days. Perhaps it was because of her poor performance during the initial rating, but Ruan Tao had given all of herself for this stage. She had changed her usual sweet style for more difficult jazz. Even during training, she had practiced with weights and it was obvious to all she really wanted to recover from the last impression. Who would have thought she would have an accident just before going on stage? Her sadness was not difficult to imagine.

Ruan Tao was still crying and she shook her head. She tried to stand up but the pain on her ankle made her gasp; she couldn’t even put her foot down, let alone perform on stage.

No, no, why was this happening? Ruan Tao’s heart broke down. She had been rehearsing so seriously for so long, why such a stupid accident had to happen when it was almost over? Why ruin all of her hard work? She had been so serious, so hard-working, she had gotten up so early every morning to practice and had not returned to the dormitory until late at night, even when her teammates had tried to persuade her to rest. She had been so determined, why was she the one encountering such an incident? Thinking of this, the grievances, the unwillingness, and the sadness accumulated in her heart for days finally exploded and her tears became even more uncontrollable. She collapsed and wept bitterly, shocking everyone around her.

Amidst the chaos, nobody paid attention nor remembered Ruan Tao’s four teammates. They also had tears in their eyes but did not dare to cry; they did not want people to think they were just adding complications to this already messy situation.

“Are you also injured?”

At this moment, a petite girl came over with a first aid kit. It was Qiao Dai who had just come to help.

Because of the sudden incident, many employees had been sent to the scene to calm the audience. The backstage team was severely understaffed and some players who were done with their own stage had come to help, one after another.

“You are?”

Lin Xiaoxiao raised her head and took a look at Qiao Dai. Her tears were blurring her sight and she did not recognize it at first. After wiping them with a tissue, she finally realized Qiao Dai was the one standing in front of her and couldn’t help but be a little surprised.

“Qiao Dai? Why are you here? Didn’t you just finish your performance?”

Lin Xiaoxiao choked with sobs. She was not close with Qiao Dai but Lu Ying was and she indirectly had a good impression of her. Unfortunately, because she was teammates with Ruan Tao, she had not had the opportunity to chat with Qiao Dai yet.

Lin Xiaoxiao had not expected the first person to notice them would be Qiao Dai, who had nothing to do with them. Her mood was subtle for a while, she did know whether she was happy or wronged, but she couldn’t stop crying nonetheless.

Right now, everybody was concerned about Ruan Tao who was weeping on the ground, everyone trying to comfort the girl who had collapsed right before her stage. They were all encouraging her yet no one noticed the four girls in the corner who were going through the exact same breakdown. When everyone was consoling Ruan Tao like a little princess, only Qiao Dai had finally paid attention to this helpless group of girls, hiding in the corner just like little palace ladies.

At this moment, Lin Xiaoxiao couldn’t hold it anymore and cried. She stretched out her bruised arm to Qiao Dai and said: “It really hurts.”

Her snow-white arm had a scrape. When Ruan Tao had fallen down the stairs, she had instinctively pulled at Lin Xiaoxiao who had been pushed against the filming equipment.

Lu Ying joined Qiao Dai and when she saw her friend cry, her eyes became red too. She twitched her nose and pulled up Lin Xiaoxiao’s hand and said with some distress: “It’s okay, it’s just broken skin. Let’s disinfect it first.”

There were too many people there and there was no place for the girls to sit down and treat their wounds. Qiao Dai walked through the crowd, carrying the first aid kind while saying: “Make way! Make way!”

The girls were going to help Lin Xiaoxiao treat her wound outside. The uninjured members also wanted to find a more silent room to cry, so they wouldn’t be blamed for not caring about Ruan Tao. They were worried about their upcoming performance, but did anyone think about it? Ruan Tao was their C position! If another position was missing, they could have dealt with it, but what could they do without their center?

Qiao Dai kept on struggling and walking ahead, but the rest of the staff and contestants came in and gathered around Ruan Tao, with countless cameras standing aside, crowding the entire room.

“Director Ruan! Why are you here?”

Ruan Mingyi frowned, his eyes sweeping across the scene indifferently. He looked at everyone like a suspect and when his gaze fell on Qiao Dai, his eyes jumped slightly but soon returned to normal. It was only a flash but Qiao Dai noticed his action. She used to live in a dangerous ocean, had she not been sensitive to everything around her, she would have already become prey to others. Therefore, when Ruan Mingyi had looked at her, she had clearly captured his reaction.

Chapter 29: I’ll jump C position for you (2)

Ruan Mingyi avoided Qiao Dai’s eyes and asked in a cold voice: “Where are Taotao’s teammates? I need to ask you something.”

Everyone sneered in their hearts, secretly saying this situation had developed in the worst possible way.

Lin Xiaoxiao, who was standing behind Qiao Dai, stiffened suddenly and her fingertips became cold. As a member of Galaxy, she was aware of Director Ruan’s personality. He was stubborn and rigid; as long as he decided something, so one could persuade him anymore.

“Dad!”

Ruan Tao exclaimed. After all, she was the main protagonist of this incident and she knew how she had hurt herself. It had nothing to do with her teammates, it was only because she had insisted on over-exerting herself.

But Ruan Mingyi wasn’t listening to Ruan Tao. In his eyes, his daughter was too pure and kind and was easily deceived by others. As a person who had seen a lot of the darker side of people, he knew Ruan Tao couldn’t understand it.

“Mr. Ruan, is that very appropriate right now?”

At this time, the mentors had received the news and returned backstage. Jiang Fengchi was unhappy and said: “Whether it was an accident or not, right now is not the time for you to investigate.”

Ruan Mingyi glanced at Jiang Fengchi and dismissed him quickly. In a somewhat contemptuous tone, he ordered: “Have your director come and talk to me.”

The mood on the scene became even more tense, making people sweat. Jiang Fengchi and Ruan Mingyi continued to stare at each other, neither of them taking a step back. Time passed slowly and people became more and more anxious. How was it possible to mess things up that much in only one public performance?

Ruan Mingyi wanted to argue but at this moment, an impatient voice interrupted the stalemate.

“Enough.”

Cheng Su did not bother to walk in the room and simply stared at Ruan Mingyi. He did not need to say anything, Ruan Mingyi was already shaking; he was in trouble. Recalling the warning that had been issued to him last night, Ruan Mingyi shivered.

“President Cheng.” He looked like he wanted to explain himself but Cheng Su had already turned around and left the room, not giving him a chance to talk.

How big was Ruan Mingyi, to go look for trouble with a group of little girls? Ah, what an admirable person.

Cheng Su had originally been invited to take a look backstage. Who knew he would see a senior of the company making trouble there without any reason? It was enough to make him annoyed and he didn’t care about listening to his defense. The opportunity he had given, if he didn’t take it, what did that have to do with him?

After that, Ruan Mingyi went after Cheng Su and forgot all about Ruan Tao’s injury. The director hurried everyone to send Ruan Tao to the hospital, clean up the scene and go back on stage.

“It’s okay.”

In the corner of the room, Qiao Dai and Lu Ying were helping Lin Xiaoxiao with her wound, disinfecting it with alcohol. The rest of Ruan Tao’s teammates had also gathered around and everyone looked very depressed.

“She has so many fans and now she went to the hospital. Even if she can’t perform, her fans will feel sorry for her. What can we do? This dance is so difficult, who can take her C position?”

There was no camera around and the girls did not hide their negative emotions anymore. The one who had just spoken was a Class C player. She did not have a large fanbase and could only hope to perform better each stage to attract people. Right now, the most important thing for her was this public performance but such an accident had happened.

“Don’t say it, don’t say it.”

Lin Xiaoxiao’s voice was broken. She knew her teammate was not ranked high and really needed this performance to have a chance to stay in the game. Without it, she was really on the edge of being eliminated.

The girl lowered her head and heavy tears fell one by one.

“Xiaoxiao, you tried to have her rest but did she listen? She wanted us to work so hard but in the end, all of our efforts were in vain. How is it fair to us?”

Today’s incident had not been without any sign. Ruan Tao was originally quite weak with a petite body. She seldom participated in performances that required a lot of strength and her teammates had a vague guess about her stamina.

During practice, Ruan Tao had shown amazing efforts. But while she had been happy, her teammates had been worrying a little. They had been afraid Ruan Tao’s body would not have been able to hold the pressure but had not been able to stop her. Should they have prevented her from training? In any case, today’s accident had occurred.

Another short-haired Galaxy member sobbed. She looked defeated and complained: “What can we do? She can do whatever she wants, preserve her strength if she wants to. But what about us? Did she ask us? She wanted to train too hard but did she care about us?”

With a cold and sad smile, she continued: “I know, it’s also our fault. We tried to persuade her too late, why couldn’t we be more careful? We can’t just blame her, it would be very petty of us…”

“But I am petty! I’m selfish! I guess my relationship with her was not as good as I thought because I cannot accept her tantrums over and over again… I’m done.”

Contradictions within Galaxy members had always existed. Because it had gone rather smoothly before the draft, these contradictions had not been violent nor obvious to all. But after joining the show together, they had messed things up right from the start during the initial rating and it had caused more internal friction. After a while, they had finally realized that their relationship was far from good enough to forgive each other for the damage they had done.

No one was willing to be cannon fodder. They could tolerate their friend’s mistakes or even choose to give up for them but it was all based on feelings rather than the forced interest of others. Although they were still a team now, some things within Galaxy had quietly changed.

Listening to them talking, Qiao Dai suddenly asked with a serious expression: “Do you have a video? I want to see it.”

Lin Xiaoxiao was startled but instantly understood Qiao Dai’s intentions. For a while, she was a little baffled. Her heart was moved and she wanted to start crying again. But in the end, she waved her hand and said in a low voice: “It’s too late. The intermission will be over in a second, it’s useless to watch it now.”

She was aware the mentors praised Qiao Dai for being talented and she had also seen it with her own eyes. But even for a genius, they did not have enough time, and miracles were impossible.

“You should go. There is still the theme song at the end, you should go rest.”

Lin Xiaoxiao squeezed out a smile and wiped her tears away. Pretending to be strong, she looked at her three teammates.

“Sisters, cheer up! You are the best.”

But without their central position, the effect of the performance would be a disaster. Ruan Tao had gone to the hospital and did not have to face this humiliation but her teammates were not so lucky. Even if they knew their stage would be a failure, they had a hard time digesting it.

Even if they were all opponents, when they saw the four girls hug each other, the other contestants from other teams could not help but feel sympathetic and a little sad.

“Cheer up!”

“It will be okay!”

“You are all amazing!”

The other girls stood beside Lin Xiaoxiao and her teammates, just like Qiao Dai, and encouraged them. Their performance was indeed doomed but those four girls who were about to dance bravely… each of them were worthy to shine on the stage!

As the players embraced each other, hoping to comfort them and ease their current nervousness, a figure slowly walked to them.

“Teacher Jiang?”

Lin Xiaoxiao looked up at Jiang Fengchi. He nodded gently at them and said: “It will be okay.”

His eyes fell on every girl present until he stopped on Lin Xiaoxiao who was standing in the center.

“I will dance the C position for you.”
