Chapter 46: Detective Daidai (1)

After Qiao Dai sat down and carefully listened to what had happened today, she realized that the two people involved in this incident were all very familiar to her; one was Shi Qing, who was listed as a suspect, and the other was Jiang Ruowei, who was the person who had started the whole thing. When rumors had started to spread, the hot-tempered Jiang Ruowei had sworn to everyone in the dormitory that she would catch whoever was stabbing everyone in the back.

Although she was bad-tempered, she hated people who were nice in front but villain behind the scenes. Moreover, her relationship with Qiao Dai had improved recently and after Pupsky had run away while he was being moved, she felt even more unhappy; if it hadn’t been for the person who had reported Qiao Dai, Pupsky wouldn’t be missing.

The production team was aware of the strange atmosphere among the players but could obviously not reveal who had come to see them. So after Jiang Ruowei’s not so discreet inquiries, every girl learned about one more clue: the report they had received had come from a written message. They had found a letter on their desk early in the morning and they didn’t know who had left it.

At this point, things were in a deadlock. But something happened next.

Back in the dormitory room, Jiang Ruowei had been indignant. Lin Lang hadn’t been able to stand it anymore and had taken a picture of the letter and sent it to her.

The handwriting had deliberately been changed but coincidently, the letter had been similar to one Jiang Ruowei had seen on Shi Qing’s desk. She had immediately taken a photo for comparison and realized the paper was exactly the same; she then had gone to see Shi Qing and confront her.

In addition to Qiao Dai’s team members, many other girls had come to join in the fun. And the more had come, the more it had attracted even more people.

“Was it really Shi Qing? She has such a good relationship with Qiao Dai…”

“That’s probably why. I didn’t know Qiao Dai had a pet in her room.”

“That’s so scary! You can really not tell, Shi Qing is usually so quiet.”

“The dog wasn’t the one biting, uh. Qiao Dai is getting targeted by her friend, so miserable.”

While everyone was talking about the situation, a girl suddenly spoke. Whether it was intentional or not, her voice came out rather loud and she immediately attracted the attention of all the people around her.

She was slightly startled by the sound of her own voice but said: “Is it, though? Don’t you know that this kind of thing has already happened to COCO before? But that time, the reported person had been Lin Lang and they still haven’t found who it was…” She glanced at Shi Qing, “It’s awful, how come there can be such a person!”

The girl had always been a fan of Lin Lang and she remembered what had happened to COCO very clearly, as much as she was sure Shi Qing had been the perpetrator. Poor Lin Lang… It was really annoying just to think about it!

But now that Shi Qing had been pushed to the limelight again, she naturally felt happy to rehash the old story and finish destroying her in one single blow.

After her words fell, the other girls soon started to remember the incident.

During the graduation concert of Lin Lang and the other trainees, Shi Qing, who had been the most favored at the company at the time, had been overturned because of her average performance. But when this matter had caused controversy, someone had reported Lin Lang for being an unfair team captain and deliberately suppressing her teammates.

Although Shi Qing’s name had never been mentioned in the report and despite being the most popular, the girl had been sent to the back row. Her fans had strongly opposed it at that time and accused the agency and Shi Qing’s team of unfair treatment.

Therefore after the incident had happened, the first suspect had been Shi Qing. In the end, Lin Lang had apologized publicly but Shi Qing’s image had irrevocably been greatly affected; she had become a hypocritical and vindictive schemer while Lin Lang had taken the blame despite being innocent and had become the famous Little Fairy. And now that something similar was happening to COCO’s members once again, the other contestants couldn’t just believe in coincidences.

But after spending so many days together, Qiao Dai knew very well that Shi Qing was not such a person. As for who was actually guilty, she had already guessed.

Jiang Ruowei looked at the silent Qiao Dai and said anxiously: “Don’t you believe me? It must definitely be Shi Qing, she did it before!”

Jiang Ruowei had always thought it was unfair that Lin Lang had to apologize for something she hadn’t done. She didn’t understand why the company was still defending someone like her either.

The rest of the girls also somehow got their hands on the letter and after comparing it with Shi Qing’s paper, they fell silent. The evidence was real but also not; no one had seen Shi Qing report to the staff with their own eyes and even if the paper was the same, it didn’t mean that no other players had the same.

Chapter 46: Detective Daidai (2)

Jiang Ruowei was hot-tempered and usually acted before she thought. It also helped that she had always been prejudiced against Shi Qing; she was definitely the most suitable person to stir things up. Had Lin Lang chosen someone smarter like Song Yiqi, the girl would have found some sort of clues and talked to Qiao Dai privately, instead of heading directly to a public disturbance.

And Shi Qing was simply too timid. Even if she argued her innocence, nobody would believe her; and in the end, no matter how the incident would be resolved, Qiao Dai would be at a loss; If she didn’t believe Jiang Ruowei, Jiang Ruowei would get angry and blame her for not trusting her; but if she did suspect Shi Qing, their whole team would be affected and so would their second public performance.

Therefore only Qiao Dai and the others would suffer from this incident. Lin Lang only to watch the joke unfold; she didn’t believe the dumb Qiao DAi would find any evidence she was the one behind the report.

“Can you show me the letter?”

At this moment, Qiao Dai, who hadn’t spoken all this time, suddenly asked. Her expression was very calm; she didn’t look like she had just been betrayed by her friend and the other girls couldn’t help but mutter their surprise. How could Qiao Dai be so calm and not angry at all about being stabbed in the back by her friend and teammate?

This was when they realized Qiao Dai’s gaze towards Shi Qing was full of truth.

Qiao Dai trusted her friend.

Qiao Dai trusted Shi Qing so much she just wanted to prove her innocence.

The other girls suddenly couldn’t voice their surprise anymore and started to doubt everything; if Qiao Dai was convinced Shi Qing couldn’t report her, why would they suspect her?

They all stared at Qiao Dai as anxious hope spread in their hearts; they really wanted Qiao Dai to find the truth about what had happened. Unfortunately, the only evidence now was the letter left in the production team’s office.

In front of everyone, Qiao Dai took the piece of paper and approached it to her nose before smelling it. Her movements were fast and before the girls could even realize what she was doing, Qiao Dai had already put her hands down. She raised her head and said to the crowd: “I know who wrote it.”

So fast?

The players opened their eyes wide; nobody had thought Qiao Dai would find the culprit so fast. They all frowned and started looking at each other and for a while, the classroom fell silent.

Lin Lang’s heart stopped abruptly and she instinctively clenched her fists, her nails digging painfully in her palms.

No, Qiao Dai was bluffing. There was no way she could know she had written it.

But as Lin Lang was trying to reassure herself, she suddenly realized everyone was staring at her. The players closest to her all took a step back and she was standing alone for a minute. When she raised her head, Qiao Dai was looking at her too.

All kinds of words to defend herself flashed in her mind quickly. Her eyes became red and it looked as if tears would fall at any moment and she said in a choked voice: “Daidai! You think I did it?”

Lin Lang’s appearance was eye-catching even among the girls and she always acted softly. Everyone thought she was a good person and seeing her grievances, nobody could bear it.

“How can it be Lin Lang!”

“Yes, Sister Lin Lang is so nice, this must be a misunderstanding.”

“Qiao Dai, you can’t just blame someone else because Shi Qing is your friend.”

“Citrus. Blackberry. Cedar.”

The rest of the crowd also felt stupid as Qiao Dai kept going, she walked among all the girls to list their perfumes’ components. She was like a perfumer walking in shelves of fragrances, able to scent anything and never wrong.

And in the end, Qiao Dai stopped in front of Lin Lang.

The letter still had a trace of fragrance, which was exactly the same Lin Lang was wearing today.

“Orange blossom, jasmine, almond, vanilla. Lin Lang, you never touched this note, then why does this piece of paper smell like you?”

Qiao Dai looked at her. Her expression was still calm but everybody could hear the doubt in her voice, which undoubtedly sentenced Lin Lang.

In order never to be suspected, Lin Lang had not looked at the note from beginning to end and had always stood further away, without taking even one step closer. But now, the letter was carrying her scent.

What did it mean? The answer couldn’t be more obvious.

Lin Lang wanted to argue the perfume was a coincidence. But when she opened her mouth, she couldn’t say anything; she clearly knew herself that she had always been vehement about having a perfume different from others. She hated wearing the same scent as the other girls because it made her feel cheap and even if her perfume wasn’t really unique, she could guarantee no one among the contestants would have a similar bottle.

And now, the little arrogance she had always been proud of in the past was driving her to a dead end. When she realized this, Lin Lang’s face instantly turned pale.
