Chapter 63: You like me more than I thought (2)

Qiao Dai was in a good mood on the way back. She lay on the window and watched the scenery go back with some excitement, chatting with Cheng Su in a cheerful tone from time to time.

“Why are you so good at singing?”

As they were about to reach the dormitory, Qiao Dai suddenly thought about it and asked the man in the driver’s seat with curiosity. She knew humans would praise whales’ singing but how could an irritable orca like Cheng Su have learned?

Cheng Su heard Qiao Dai’s question and answered casually: “My dad used to sing to my mother and he forced me to learn. But now, it seems…”

He glanced at the girl from the corner of his eye and chuckled lightly: “That this isn’t so useless after all.”

“Are your parents killer whales too?” Qiao Dai lowered her head and asked.

“No, my father was a “wild fish” my mother picked and my mother was human.”

This was the first time Qiao Dai heard Cheng Su talk about his family. And perhaps it was because he had not talked about them for so long, the waves in Cheng Su’s heart calmed down as he spoke.

Once upon a time, his father had rescued his mother who had been sailing during a big storm. The two of them had fallen in love at first sight and Cheng Su remembered how his mother used to joke that she had abducted his father from the Pacific Ocean…

But this was only a long, almost forgotten memory. After their deaths, Cheng Su had never talked about them to anyone. Not until Qiao Dai had asked.

Although his grandparents loved him, he could not share his secret. The secrets hidden in his heart were ever-increasing, making him almost breathless and angry. In this huge city, he had nobody he could talk to.

After telling his parents’ story, Cheng Su turned his head to look at Qiao Dai and his hands clenched around the steering wheel.

“What about you?”

The light was red and he looked at her with expectations.

Her parents?

Qiao Dai was stunned for a moment. The first thing that came to her mind was the sea otter mother in the Pacific Ocean but familial relationships were different in the animal kingdom. She had been living alone as soon as she had been able to.

But she knew Cheng Su was not asking about that and she answered without hesitation: “My parents… I don’t want to see them.”

She knew there were still many issues to be resolved between her current identity and the Ruan family, but she did not feel concerned. Whether they were her blood relatives or not, it didn’t matter to her; she was not the real Qiao Dai after all. And she knew about the attitude the Ruan family had had towards the original Qiao Dai, it made it even more difficult to have any kind feelings towards them.

If she could, she would never want to have anything to do with them ever.

She glanced at Cheng Su and asked in a low voice: “Is it strange? After all, they’re my parents…”

A child could not choose their parents. If they could, some may choose to never be born into this world. Cheng Su had parents who had loved him but it didn’t mean Qiao Dai was the same. But hearing her question, Cheng Su’s heart felt like it had just been stabbed. He could give her all of his love but he would never be able to fill the one she had never gotten from her family.

These were two different kinds of love after all; one could not replace the other.

“I’m sorry, this isn’t a very pleasant topic. I won’t bring it up again.”

Cheng Su apologized to Qiao Dai. He wanted to learn more about her but this topic was not making her happy.

Qiao Dai shook her head to indicate she was fine. She looked at Cheng Su and said with a smile: “It doesn’t matter. I have you.”

She had Cheng Su, she had friends, and she had fans. It was more than enough for her.

After her excursion with Cheng Su, Qiao Dai had a breakthrough in her performance and progressed so quickly the instructors couldn’t help but applaud.

After the latest one-on-one tutoring session with Jiang Fengchi, he stopped her and asked: “What I said last time, what did you think of?”

Jiang Fengchi was a little curious. He could clearly feel the change after his guidance the other day and although the other teachers were giving him credit, he didn’t think that was the case. His intuition told him that his question had let Qiao Dai grow up on many other levels.

Qiao Dai thought about it for a while and didn’t answer directly. She looked at Jiang Fengchi a little embarrassedly and whispered: “Do I really have to say it, Teacher Jiang?”

It seemed that she had found something important to her.

Jiang Fengchi smiled gently and walked to her: “You don’t have to, just keep it in your heart.”

He paused for a while and added: “However since it’s so important, protect it well. It will make you stronger.”

After the short training period, the girls of soon started their third public performance. Their success or failure this time would directly determine whether they would reach the finals or not.

[Sisters, good luck~]

[Shortcoming challenge! I can’t wait!]

[I both don’t want to watch it and really want to. Sisters, don’t fail, surprise us even more tonight!]

One after another, comments quickly swept the live broadcast screen. At some point during the night, both physical and virtual audiences screamed at the same time; cheers and enthusiasm from all over the country followed the next announcement.

“Next contestant: Qiao Dai…”

But before the host could say anything else, someone in the barrage commented:

[Bloody Love! It’s Bloody Love!!]

[Oh my god it’s Bloody Love!]

“… singing ‘Bloody Love’”

[Wait, really?!]

[Ah, ah ah, ah ah, I’m going crazy!]

In a flash, the scene started boiling.

TL note: I’m taking over the manager’s position at my work and the former one left me with so many things to fix and zero ideas on how to do it because she taught me about nothing before leaving. I’m not a tech person AT ALL and I’m trying to fix up a website… This is not going so well and I kinda feel like I’m fixing a sinking boat with tape right now.

Please report us if you find any errors so we can fix it asap!
