In truth, Xia Wennan was perplexed by Ming Qin’s attitude toward Yin Zejing. The man was evidently well aware that Yin Zejing wasn’t your run-of-the-mill poor university student, and had stationed himself at Ming Qin’s side while harbouring other intentions—so why didn’t he just show his hand to Yin Zejing right away? Did he find it amusing to continue on in this manner?

Xia Wennan soon realised, however, that perhaps Ming Qin really did.

A few days later, for Duan Ning’s father, Duan Wenlong’s, birthday, a dinner was held at his residence with many guests in attendance, and everyone in the Ming family save Ming Sichen came to wish him a happy birthday.

Duan Ning was born into a relatively traditional family. His father, Duan Wenlong, was an alpha and a nationally renowned pianist, whereas his mother was an omega who used to be a dancer in her youth.

Ming Qin and the Duan couple went way back, so it was no surprise that their children were childhood friends and grew up together.

Xia Wennan wasn’t familiar with the Duan family, but after learning that Duan Wenlong was a pianist, he had the feeling that they were an elegant and refined bunch.

He attended the party with Ming Luchuan, dressed to the nines. Even Ming Luchuan’s driver couldn’t help but remark, “Looking great today, Mr. Xia.”

Xia Wennan laughed and said, “I look all right.”

The driver brought them to the Duan house and pulled over in front of a brightly-lit garden. When Xia Wennan got out of the car, he caught sight of Duan Ning walking towards them, looking like a little prince.

Looking back, it had been a long time since Xia Wennan last saw Duan Ning. He deliberately studied Duan Ning from head to toe before murmuring to Ming Luchuan, “Your white moonlight shines brighter and brighter.”

Ming Luchuan ignored him completely. Once Duan Ning got closer, Ming Luchuan gave him a  polite smile and shook his hand.

Duan Ning’s attention didn’t remain on Ming Luchuan for long before he turned to Xia Wennan, face tilted upwards to look at his face. “Wennan, you look amazing today,” he said.

Xia Wennan laughed. “Thank you.”

Duan Ning’s gaze didn’t stray from Xia Wennan as he said, “I’m not just saying that to be polite—I’m serious. Would you by chance be interested in letting me take pictures of you?”

Xia Wennan gave a start. “Ah? What kind of pictures? I won’t pose for any nude ones.”

Duan Ning laughed in response. “There won’t be any need to strip naked—”

“Why don’t we go and pay our respects to Uncle Duan first.” Ming Luchuan wrapped an arm around Xia Wennan’s waist. His tone was polite as he cut Duan Ning off, but his demeanor was not as he dragged Xia Wennan closer to himself and sidestepped Duan Ning.

“I haven’t even finished asking what kind of pictures he wanted to take,” said Xia Wennan as Ming Luchuan urged him forwards.

“Don’t have any taken,” Ming Luchuan said emotionlessly, his gaze fixed ahead.

“Why? Isn’t Duan Ning a highly reputed photographer? I’ve never posed for a professional portrait before.”

Ming Luchuan came to an abrupt halt. Letting go of Xia Wennan’s waist, he turned around so they were face to face. “Would you like to take wedding photos?”

Xia Wennan thought for a bit, his eyes narrowing. “I refuse to put on a wedding dress though. If anyone has to wear one, you do it.”

“Who said you had to wear a wedding dress in wedding photos?” Ming Luchuan didn’t seem overjoyed.

“What would we wear then?”

“We can wear anything from formal attire to casual outfits. This isn’t something that you need to worry about.”

Xia Wennan’s expression grew serious as he mulled over it for a while. “Are we going to get Duan Ning to photograph us?”

“Do you want to?”

“Whoa… Having your ex take wedding photos of you and your current partner sounds so exciting.” Xia Wennan’s eyes gleamed faintly.

Conversely, Ming Luchuan’s face froze over. “He’s not my ex, nor my white moonlight. Are you done?”

“Do you really want to take photos?” asked Xia Wennan.

“If you want to, I can ask.”

Xia Wennan nodded. “Then go ask.” He then remembered something else and inquired, “Why didn’t we take any wedding photos? Isn’t our marriage a happy one?”  When this thought occurred to Xia Wennan, he couldn’t stop his distrust from building, as if every word Ming Luchuan said may be a lie.

“Because the wedding was rushed back then,” said Ming Luchuan.

Xia Wennan eyed him with suspicion. “Why would we rush? I can’t think of anything that would make us feel compelled to hurry.”

For a brief while, Ming Luchuan was deafeningly silent. The next second, he grasped onto Xia Wennan’s hand.

Xia Wennan was a little stunned—he didn’t understand why Ming Luchuan abruptly grew so solemn.

“My heart was too eager. It wasn’t well-prepared,” Ming Luchuan told Xia Wennan. “I’m sorry.”

“What…” Xia Wennan couldn’t help but look left and right. He couldn’t stand Ming Luchuan saying those ambiguous words in such a deadly earnest manner, and he was both a little flustered and embarrassed, praying no one else had witnessed it.

“Everything I owed you then—I’ll make it up to you, all right?”

Xia Wennan mumbled, “You don’t need to go that far, I have no idea what you owe me—but as for making it up to me…” Xia Wennan paused at that before continuing, “It’s fine if you’re just a little less fierce to me regularly.”

Ming Luchuan lowered his gaze. “I’m fierce?” he asked after a brief silence.

“I’ve never met anyone with a worse temper than you,” said Xia Wennan.

“Mm…” Ming Luchuan’s hold on Xia Wennan’s hand tightened. “That’s because you’re too annoying.”

Xia Wennan immediately shook off Ming Luchuan’s hand. “Then go find someone who doesn’t annoy you.”

Ming Luchuan reached for his head once more, and this time, he led him into the house. “I can’t,” he said as they walked, “You have to stay by my side so you won’t be able to annoy anyone else.”

Xia Wennan couldn’t help but want to grumble at that, but as he entered the home and saw Ming Qin, the words on the tip of his tongue remained unsaid; instead, he drew close to Ming Luchuan and whispered in his ear, “Did your dad actually bring Yin Zejing along?”

Ming Luchuan merely hummed in acknowledgement.

Xia Wennan couldn’t care less about what Ming Luchuan had just said a moment ago; he realised that this particular evening was possibly more exciting that he’d anticipated, what with Ming Qin bringing Yin Zejing, not to mention the fact that one of the guests attending Duan Wenlong’s birthday party was none other than He Yufeng.

Currently, Ming Qin was speaking to a tall, middle-aged alpha in his 40s or 50s, who Xia Wennan guessed was Duan Wenlong himself. Resembling Duan Ning in all but the eyes and brows, Duan Wenlong appeared an elegant and outstanding man, his fingers around his wine glass long and sturdy. He was an eyecatching man.

Yin Zejing stood behind Ming Qin. He should clearly be a little mortified at showing up to something like this, but as usual, he couldn’t be bothered to put on an act, instead glancing around the room indolently with a natural air about him.

He Yufeng, on the other hand, was conversing with a dainty middle-aged female omega. He didn’t spare a glance at Yin Zejing, and the two pretended they didn’t know each other. After nodding apologetically at the omega, he immediately headed Xia Wennan’s way.

“Forgive me, Wennan,” He Yufeng said earnestly, standing in front of Xia Wennan.

Xia Wennan looked at him and said, “Forgive you for what?”

“For those photos. I never expected that the paparazzi would take pictures of us and post them online,” said He Yufeng. He then turned to Ming Luchuan and said, “I must’ve troubled the both of you, haven’t I?”
