Chapter 169: The Occupation of Galbi and Matokal’s Concerns

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

Galbi, the fortified city. It is located northwest of the capital of the Lamaron Empire, just three hours away by horse. Positioned on a plateau that seems to have been carved out of the peaks of the mountains, the city is a natural fortress with the Lamaron Sea to its rear and the Ilvegi River to the north.

Originally, this city served as the capital before the construction of the current imperial capital. Several centuries ago, it was the place where the first emperor, who spent most of his life there, strived to unify the empire. For the people of the empire, it is one of the most important cities to protect, alongside the imperial capital.

From the fortress of Galbi, we gazed at the imperial capital of the Lamaron Empire in the far distance.

“It seems there is no movement,” Layfence muttered bitterly while fidgeting.

“No, General, there is no doubt that we wouldn’t stand a chance if the imperial army poured into this city with full force,” I replied.

“You’re right. I understand your desire to engage in battle, General, but we have already proven that we can capture this formidable fortified city. That should be enough. If a large army comes to attack, then we shall retreat gracefully,” Kunogen admonished the general with a smile.

Indeed, the duration of the battle was almost zero. Similar to when we liberated the city of Agarta, Sadakichi and the other Fairy Dragons incapacitated the soldiers in the barracks by scattering paralysis powder from the sky. Taking advantage of the cover of darkness, we launched a surprise assault. There were only about 300 soldiers stationed there, and they all became neat prisoners.

We successfully captured the gatekeepers and the soldiers guarding the key facilities without leaving anyone behind.

Then, we released two of them and sent them running to the imperial capital. If forces were dispatched from the capital, depending on their scale, we were prepared to fight. However, there was no sign of movement from the capital. Whether they were in turmoil or sending the forces back to Agarta, we were currently trying to discern the situation.

At that moment, Sadakichi appeared before us.

“What’s the matter?” I asked.

“The Lamaron troops at the border have begun retreating,” Sadakichi replied.

“I see. Well done. Sadakichi, I have a favor to ask of you,” I said as I took out a piece of paper from my pocket and began writing a note.

“I apologize, but please deliver this to Matokal in the capital. If you can’t find her, give it to someone at the reception hall. It should reach her,” I instructed.

“Understood,” Sadakichi said before disappearing once again.

“Linos, what did you…? A love letter, perhaps?” Layfence said, wearing a cynical smile.

I returned the smile and replied, “No, I was thinking of arranging some souvenirs for the people of Galbi.”

The seasoned general squinted his eyes and nodded while gazing at the distant imperial capital.

The people of Galbi were amazed when they woke up and went out into the city. They were surprised to see signs like this erected at ten different locations throughout the city:

“To the citizens of Galbi,

Good morning. How did you sleep? Whether you had a good night’s sleep or not, you are probably surprised upon seeing these signs. The truth is, the Agarta army occupied this city last night. Ah, please rest assured that we won’t harm the citizens. We will be your guests for a while. Let’s get along. We will try to leave as soon as possible, so please bear with us for a while. The city gates will be closed for a while. I apologize for the inconvenience. You won’t be able to leave or enter the town for some time. Please don’t worry about food shortages; we will ensure that you have enough to eat.

Best regards,

King Basam Daake Linos of Agarta”

Various speculations spread among the citizens, and the city was on the verge of chaos. However, at that moment, soldiers appeared from all directions. The citizens watched in awe as the soldiers, clad in black armor, performed a magnificent parade, showcasing their disciplined and coordinated movements. This captivated the citizens’ hearts, and during that time, under the command of a man who seemed to be the leader of the legion, the soldiers quickly took up positions to guard key facilities such as the city gates.

With this display, the Agarta army gained the trust of the citizens.

While deploying the troops, Linos and the others wandered around the city. They soon realized that the city had even less food than expected. Most of the soldiers stationed here had been sent to Agarta, resulting in the majority of the stored provisions being taken away. Consequently, Linos decided to provide food support, closely monitoring the movements of the Lamaron army near the border.

Alone in a spacious pantry, I set up a teleportation barrier to Agarta. First, I teleported to my own office and searched for Matokal. I quickly found her.

“Linos-sama!”

“Oh, Matokal. Did you read the note?”

“Yes, I did. I’m about to head to the pantry.”

“Then, can you move the supplies to the empty room in the pantry?”

“Understood.”

I communicated through telepathy with Luala, instructing her to transfer supplies from the pantry to Galbi. Luala immediately responded with an OK.

The Agarta defenders began moving the food into the underground chambers, and I teleported it to Galbi. We repeated this process several times. The once-empty pantry was now filled with provisions.

I went outside and instructed Kunogen to prepare a communal meal. It was already well past noon.

After discussing, we decided to cook curry for dinner. Since there were no movements from the imperial capital and the Lamaron army near the border was reportedly in full retreat, we predicted that there wouldn’t be an attack today. I helped with dicing onions.

The people of Galbi loved the curry. Despite making a large quantity, it was almost completely eaten. While enjoying the curry, we held a brief meeting about the following days and successfully finished our tasks for the day.

I was given a room in the barracks, where I could finally relax. It seemed to be the room used by the commander of this city, with a reception area and an office. Soleil, exhausted from helping with the communal meal, leaned back on the sofa in the reception area and fell asleep.

Alone, I entered the office and sat down on the chair, letting out a sigh. Just as I was thinking about taking a bath soon, there was a knock on the office door.

“It’s Matokal.”

“Hmm? Mat? What’s up? Come in, come in.”

Matokal entered the room wearing a full-face helmet for some reason. She took off the helmet upon seeing me.

“Why, Mat? What’s with the attire?”

“It wouldn’t be good if someone from the empire recognizes my face.”

“Ah, yes, you’re right. Some people do know what you look like. So, why did you come to Galbi?”

“Ah, I thought I’d keep you company, Lord Linos.”

“Keep me company? What are you talking about?”

“Well, if it’s not a problem, I planned to return. I thought Soleil-dono would be with you, but when I peeked into the room, Soleil-dono was drooling in her sleep on the sofa. I didn’t think she would be able to keep you company, so I came.”

“I see… I understand. Thank you.”

“Well then…”

Matokal started removing the armor she was wearing. Then she took off her shirt and underwear, standing completely naked.

“…Mat?”

I froze with wide eyes.

“…After a battle, a man seeks a woman, right? Since Soleil-dono is asleep, I thought I would be your company… Oh, if you prefer Soleil-dono, I can wake her up. We can do it together. What kind of position would you like?”

“Mat… Matokal… Um, it’s okay.”

When Matokal was with the Lamaron army, she saw that after each battle, furuchin and his followers sought women. Because of that, she had formed an image that after a battle, a man seeks a woman, and she thought she was being considerate of my needs.

I don’t dislike sexual activities, but being openly pursued by a woman in a well-lit place dampens my enthusiasm. I prefer erotic activities to be done in a dark place, with a sense of shame.

“…That’s how it is. But Mat, I appreciate your feelings. Thank you.”

Saying that, I lightly kissed Matokal.

“Shall we wake up Soleil and return to the mansion?”

“What?! Return to the mansion?”

“Yes, I’ll set up a teleportation barrier here and return to the mansion.”

“…I didn’t even consider that.”

Matokal looked disappointed and then started to dress shyly. Today is the day I sleep with Rico. I will hold Rico and sleep in the “entangled legs” position with Eril.

“L-Lord Linos.”

“What is it, Matokal?”

“Please keep what happened earlier a secret from Lady Rico.”

“Sure.”

I smiled and, carrying the still-sleeping Soleil, I took Matokal with me and returned to the mansion in the imperial capital.
