Chapter 186: Public Question and Answer Session

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

The capital of the Crimeana Kingdom, Aphrodite, and its central cathedral were enveloped in an eerie silence, as if the earlier commotion had been a lie.

In the center of the cathedral, just below the raised platform bearing the portrait of the chief deity, Crimeana, the Pope and several cardinals stood in line. In front of them were two facing desks. On the upper side sat Imani, the director of the Crimeana Research Institute, along with the deputy director, Darina, and researcher Clarina, all sitting quietly. On the other desk, sat Meirias, rumored to be Agarta King Linos’s mistress, and the two beastmen, Chiwang and Roni, from the Agarta Kingdom. Beside them stood a man holding rolled-up papers close to his chest. He was none other than the King of Agarta, Basam Daake Linos.

Before entering the venue, Linos whispered something to one of the bishops of the cathedral. At first, the bishop’s expression showed confusion, but eventually, he went to seek confirmation from his superior. Then, with a bewildered expression, he conveyed Linos’s permission. As Linos entered the venue, Meirias and the others took their seats, but Linos remained standing.

Inside the hall, there was a mix of bewilderment and anticipation about what would happen next, and everyone’s eyes were fixed on Linos. In the midst of the silence, two bishops brought a small desk and placed it right in the center between the two parties, just below the Pope’s position on the platform.

After the desk was set up, Linos walked confidently and sat down at the desk. He arranged papers and a pen on the table before sitting up straight and putting on a serious face. However, the hall remained silent. Linos looked around the venue once again and spoke.

“Please, go ahead. You can start.”

“Agarta King,” the Pope’s voice echoed.

“Excuse me for speaking from this position. It is my first time meeting you. I am Juvenile Cane, the Pope of Crimeana. Thank you for coming all this way.”

The Pope maintained his usual gentle smile as he looked down at Linos. Linos stood up and bowed to the Pope.

“Your Holiness, I am grateful for this opportunity you’ve provided. Thank you.”

The Pope nodded, seeming satisfied.

“I heard that King Linos came to hear the voice of Crimeana herself… Perhaps you might be an apostle sent by Crimeana?”

With his still gentle smile, the Pope directed a kind gaze toward Linos.

“That matter is not relevant to today’s discussion, is it? Time is limited, and should we start the Q&A session?”

The entire venue froze, but the Pope’s gentle smile remained.

“Yes, you are right, King Linos. Let’s start then. Instead of sitting over there, please come over to my side, Shunohato.”

One of the cardinals was called out by name and stood up to leave his seat.

“Oh, it’s okay, stay there. It will be difficult from that position.”

Linos gestured to stop Shunohato. Shunohato looked bewilderedly at the Pope before the latter nodded, and Shunohato sat back down.

“Well then, let’s begin,” the Pope said.

Upon hearing the Pope’s voice, Imani spoke, “I am Imani, the director of the Crimeana Medical Research Institute. I am delighted that you have provided us with this opportunity. I hope that this meeting will contribute to the advancement of medicine. Thank you.”

Following Imani, Meirias stood up.

“I serve Agarta King Linos as Meirias. This time, regarding the announcement made by Crimeana about the pathogens Kirisurei, Gaisha, and Luroansu, which are said to be transmitted through the bodily fluids of some beastmen, and the theory that the bile of the sheep-beastmen is effective as a cure, there are some points that I cannot fully comprehend. That is why this Q&A session was arranged. Thank you.”

With her clear and dignified voice, Meirias’s words resonated throughout the venue. After bowing, she continued speaking.

“First, the medical paper published in Sanctuary seems logically sound, but since it lacks specific details, I cannot believe in this theory. I would like an explanation on this point,” Meirias said as she took her seat. In response, Clarina began to speak.

“Specifically, regarding the cure, I developed an acid that, when added in a certain amount to the sheep-beastmen’s bile…”

“No, that’s not what we’re asking,” Chiwang interrupted.

“I am Chiwang, the head of the Pousehai Clinic. Nice to meet you all,” he said, causing a stir in the venue. Whispers like, ‘Pousehai?’, ‘Oh, it’s Pousehai…’ could be heard from various corners.

“What we’re asking is how many cases you experimented on and how many times you conducted reproducing experiments,” Chiwang continued.

“Understood,” Imani said, “Indeed, the paper you, Pousehai, presented earlier… ‘Treatment of Acute Fever Transmitted by Mosquitoes,’ was remarkable, scoring a solid ninety points upon its release. Compared to that, our paper scored only thirty points. It requires further explanation. However, still, this is the only method that can cure the incurable disease that humans have suffered for thousands of years.”

Imani passionately conveyed his thoughts with each word he spoke.

“Well, in any case, it’s said that Pousehai casually conducts experiments on human subjects, so it’s understandable that they can provide substantial evidence at the presentation stage,” commented Darina, the deputy director, in a sarcastic tone. In her heart, Darina couldn’t help but find Pousehai irritating. The Crimeana Medical Research Institute was a prestigious institution, boasting the world’s finest minds, leading the medical world with its overwhelming intellect. On the other hand, Pousehai nurtured young researchers, although not many in number, and over the years, they had achieved remarkable results, eradicating diseases that had remained unsolved at Crimeana. This Q&A session was a competition between Crimeana and Pousehai for supremacy in the medical field. Though the Pousehai team was not concerned about competing with Crimeana, the same could not be said for Darina and the Crimeana team, who were acutely aware of this aspect of the event.

Suppressing her emotions, Darina glared at Pousehai, and Roni spoke up.

“Indeed, we acknowledge that we used to conduct experiments on human subjects. However, in recent years, most of our papers have used large rats for experimental verification. We haven’t conducted any human subject experiments.”

“Putting aside the talk of human subject experiments, we have three requests for all of you,” Meirias eloquently expressed.

“First, we need to know why the bodily fluids of some beastmen cause Kirisurei, Gaisha, and Luroansu. Sanctuary does not include specific case details on this. We ask you to conduct this outbreak experiment in multiple countries outside of the Crimeana Kingdom. For instance, Ogres have a physique very similar to humans, so they could be used for these experiments, if necessary.”

The cathedral was abuzz with noise, but when the Pope raised his hand, silence quickly returned.

“Thank you very much. The second request is for the cure using sheep-beastmen’s bile. We ask you to conduct verification experiments on individuals who have already completed the outbreak experiment mentioned earlier, in various countries,” Meirias took a deep breath.

“And the third request is to disclose the development method of the cure,” she continued.

Once again, the cathedral buzzed with noise, and insults were mixed in the responses, mainly coming from the Crimeana Medical Research Institute members.

“Silence,” the Pope’s word brought quiet back to the cathedral. Meirias acknowledged this and made eye contact with Roni before nodding.

“Our request is for the world’s research institutions gathered here to conduct reproducing experiments of Crimeana Medical Research Institute’s claim, that the infection of Kirisurei, Gaisha, and Luroansu is transmitted through the bodily fluids of beastmen, and the cure is the bile of sheep-beastmen,” she said.

The cathedral was filled with murmurs and commotion. In the midst of this, the Pope maintained his usual smile and gently, yet firmly, addressed the attendees.

“Quiet down, let’s calm down. Everyone, don’t you want to hear the rest of Queen Meirias’ words?” he said.

Gradually, the murmuring subsided.

“You want us to conduct reproducing experiments in countries around the world! Absurd! Do you realize how much time it will take?” Darina spoke out, spitting out her words.

“It’s possible,” Roni’s voice drowned out Darina’s. She stood up gracefully and bowed slightly.

“All of us from Pousehai possess the teleportation skill. We can transfer all of you to your respective countries. Then, we can pick you up again in two weeks, and you can gather here. If I recall correctly, the pathogens take a few days to manifest in humans after being transmitted through beastmen’s bodily fluids…right? If you provide us with the method of making the cure, we believe that two weeks will be enough for conducting reproducing experiments,” Roni said.

“No, there’s no need to conduct reproducing experiments in countries around the world,” Darina retorted.

“Please wait, Vice Director Darina. If the cure is effective, each country can learn the manufacturing method, allowing for swift responses when these diseases become prevalent. Or do you mean to say that Crimeana will withhold the method from countries they dislike? Perhaps that’s an unwarranted concern, but when considering the future of the world, I ask you to seriously consider my request,” Meirias argued.

No one opposed Meirias’ statement.

“In essence, we want you to prove that Crimeana’s claim was not a mere coincidence,” Roni added. Darina’s face seemed as if she had swallowed a bitter pill.

“Di…Director!”

Unable to bear it any longer, Darina looked at Imani next to her. However, Imani remained composed, gazing calmly and intelligently at Meirias.
