Chapter 197: The Second Round Bell Rings

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

In the end, the infectious diseases known as Kirisrei, Gaisha, and Luroans, which had plagued the human race for thousands of years, were subject to collaborative research among the thirty-four countries that attended the public inquiry and expressed their participation.

Naturally, the nation of Agarta was chosen as the presiding country, and King Linos of Agarta was appointed as the overall coordinator. However, this was largely a nominal position; in reality, it was organized with Merias at the center, assisted by Chwang and Roni from Pousehai, and beneath them were researchers from various countries.

The conference held in the grand cathedral became highly intense. As a result, the research hub was established in Agarta, and it was decided to send researchers to Agarta approximately two months later. Until then, patients who had cooperated with the experiments would be taken care of in Pousehai’s village. In this regard, a request was also made to the Kingdom of Yomuan, and it was relayed that Pousehai would soon come to collect the patients.

Various other matters were efficiently decided during this session. Thanks to this, my right hand, which was taking notes, had completely exceeded its limits. During the night, I transcribed the notes while applying recovery magic. I had almost finished writing up two sets of minutes alongside the minutes from the previous day’s meeting. Gon was copying them down in parallel. With all of that completed, I fell into a deep sleep.

While I collapsed, my family, led by Rico, transcribed the minutes. They worked together to create the documents, supporting the two infants, Eril and Aliria. I woke up around midday and went downstairs to the dining area, where sixteen sets of minutes were ready. Gon was sleeping beside the table. Spotting me, Fairi flew over with flapping wings.

“Fairi, where did everyone go?”

“They went to work!”

“Seriously…”

At that moment, the dining room door opened, and Rico entered.

“Oh, Linos, good morning. I was just about to wake you up. Everyone has gone to work. I have a message from Mei. We will have another meeting at one o’clock, so please come to Crimeana.”

“Got it. I’ll head there right away.”

“Oh, I’m preparing lunch. Please eat before you go.”

There were many sandwiches prepared. I indulged in them without hesitation and gazed at the sleeping Eril and Aliria, finding solace in the sight. Then, after hugging Rico, I teleported to Crimeana.

Although we didn’t have permission to use the grand cathedral, everyone naturally gathered here. Chwang and Roni were present as well. This time, the focus was on reviewing my minutes. Since the number was insufficient, we had to read them in turns, which took some time. Additionally, there were some requests for revisions, so those parts were corrected in red ink, and the minutes were approved. For the countries that couldn’t receive the minutes, an agreement was reached for each country to transcribe and deliver them by the end of the day.

Ultimately, the Pope didn’t appear over these two days. I entrusted the minutes to Bishop Koreshi and informed him that I would be leaving tomorrow. He bid me farewell with an indescribable expression.

Upon returning to Hideita’s ship, Crown Prince Vairus and dozens of researchers from the empire and Niza principality were eagerly copying down my minutes. Apparently, researchers from Aphrodite and those who had sneaked into the country were voicing their desire to read my minutes.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase our achievements. We’ll work until the last minute. After all, we have plenty of time on the ship. It’s a good way to pass the time.”

Crown Prince Vairus chuckled and joined in the transcription work.

The next day, we left this country with a large number of minutes as souvenirs for the citizens of Crimeana. On this day, the Pope finally appeared, bidding farewell and offering words of gratitude to the delegations of various countries.

Me and Mei immediately teleported to Agarta and called for a meeting with Sid (Considy). And then, we summoned Master Carpenter Gen.

“Sorry to keep you waiting, General! So, what’s the talk about?”

“My apologies, Gen-san. I want you to modify the noble residence on the eastern side of the capital. I’d like you to hear the details from Mei here… I’m sorry for giving you more work when you’re already busy.”

Gen-san listened to the outline of the construction from Mei with nods of understanding. Then, he clenched his fist and lightly tapped his own chest.

“I’ll take care of it for ya! It’s no big deal, a simple task. So, it’s just about cleaning up the mansion, right? No need for you to get involved. If you leave it to me, I’ll have it done in a week. Now, about the interior work…”

Once again, Mei, Sid, and Gen-san started discussing.

“I get it. I’d like my apprentices and me to join the dwarves’ efforts.”

“Gen-san, is the Beastman Village okay?”

“Yeah, I’ve already taught my apprentices how to build these structures. They’ll manage somehow. If things go wrong, I’ll handle it. Dwarven craftsmanship is not easily matched. It’ll be a good opportunity for me to improve my skills too. And if my apprentices watch as well, it might serve as a useful reference.”

“Sounds good. I understand. I’m counting on you.”

Gen-san grinned. Afterward, the three of them engaged in a rather lengthy discussion about the Agarta Medical Research Institute building, appearing to enjoy themselves.

———-

Three days had passed since Linos and the others left Crimeana. In the capital city of Aphrodite, an extraordinary conclave of cardinals had been convened. The fact that this meeting, which had occurred twice in one year, was unofficial made it quite rare in the long history of the Crimeana Holy Nation.

Allowed to attend the meeting, the cardinals and bishops present sat nervously in the grand cathedral. Slowly, the Pope ascended the podium, and at the same time, a young girl and a young boy stood near the door through which the Pope entered. After taking his seat, the Pope looked around the room at the attendees and began to speak.

“Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for gathering here despite your busy schedules. We have come together for a special Jamauk, and I shall now make the announcement.”

A murmur spread throughout the hall. A special Jamauk hadn’t taken place for fifty years. Typically, those chosen for a special Jamauk would later become the Pope. Therefore, the announcement of a special Jamauk was essentially the same as nominating the successor to the current Pope.

“This time, the special Jamauk shall be performed for Veil and Cassel.”

Once again, the room buzzed with conversation. Rather than the Pope’s son and heir apparent, Cardinal Cato, it was his daughter and nephew who would undergo the special Jamauk. Cardinal Cato was currently stationed in a distant foreign land. Carrying out the special Jamauk without recalling Cardinal Cato signified his disinheritance, and it meant that the succession race between Veil and Cassel for the next Pope had begun.

“Their appointments will be in Agarta. As you are well aware, King Agarta has received the divine voice of Crimeana-sama. He is, so to speak, regarded as one under the protection of Crimeana-sama. However, it is said that there are still those around King Agarta who do not adhere to the path of righteousness. As it stands, there’s a possibility that the divine protection of Crimeana-sama could be lost. We hope that Veil and Cassel, working together, will guide King Agarta and the nation of Agarta onto the path of righteousness.”

Veil and Cassel bowed respectfully.

“However, as you can see, both of them are still young. There may be challenges they find difficult to overcome alone. Therefore, to all of you gathered here, please extend your help to these two. Our Crimeana faith will put forth its full effort to lead Agarta onto the path of righteousness and protect King Agarta, who receives the divine blessing of our Lord. Will you not aid us in this endeavor?”

The grand cathedral erupted in applause. Amidst it all, Veil and Cassel repeatedly bowed, savoring the honor. The Pope, with a satisfied expression, muttered to himself.

“Believers of the Crimeana faith from around the world will flock to the capital of Agarta… What a splendid sight it will be. I look forward to it. Truly, I do…”

The applause in the grand cathedral seemed like it would never cease.
