Chapter 234: Admiration

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

On the day of the arranged meeting, she was nervously waiting in a room next to the meeting venue, dressed in unfamiliar formal attire. The venue was a simple setup within the Agartha Medical Research Institute, with a room in the research area arranged to resemble a reception room, just a desk and chairs brought in. This setup was at the request of the other party, a considerate gesture to make Roni feel comfortable.

Roni herself was dressed in a traditional Bhutanese Kira, feeling uneasy in the unfamiliar attire. She, too, was a woman with concerns and aspirations. She dreamed of someone like the man she admired: with lush blonde hair, strikingly white skin, and captivating eyes—a handsome young man with a gentle, sweet voice. She thought that if such a person existed, who had no ulterior motives, understood her research, and could love only her, then marriage might be a possibility.

Even if the man was not extremely handsome, as long as he was independent with a steady job and took pride in his lifestyle, she considered that there might be a chance. She hoped for a man who was kind to women, somewhat popular, skilled in cooking, and didn’t mind household chores. Extravagance wasn’t necessary, but being able to cook delicious food was a plus. Infidelity was absolutely out of the question, and remembering dates like birthdays and celebrating them with gifts was more than enough. Such a man would be worth considering for marriage.

As she pondered these thoughts, she overheard a man’s voice from the next room, likely her prospective partner.

“Thank you for coming all this way…”

“No, no, I requested this meeting. It’s only natural that I come to you…”

The voice didn’t seem to her liking. A bit older? She realized she had forgotten to ask about his age, an unusual oversight for Roni. Curious, she decided to peek through a glass window in the wall, meant for letting in light. Climbing onto a shelf, she looked into the next room and was shocked at what she saw.

The man talking to Chiwan was a middle-aged man with a bald head and a mustache.

“I’ll call Roni now, please wait a moment.”

As Chiwan opened the door to her room, Roni’s scream echoed through the space.

“I refuse!!”

“Roni, what’s wrong?”

“I don’t want to! I refuse!”

“What are you saying at this late hour? That’s rude to the other party!”

“I refuse! I won’t marry such a man, I’d rather die!”

Chiwan approached her, trying to forcibly take her with him. In panic, Roni grabbed a rectangular can used for storing experimental tools and threw it.

It grazed Chiwan’s face and flew into the next room. A loud clang followed by a man’s voice crying out in surprise.

“Are you okay!”

Chiwan rushed to the next room, and Roni used this opportunity to teleport away. She felt mocked. To think they tried to marry her off to such a bald man… It was too much. Crying, she ran into the Linos residence in the imperial capital.

——-

“Ouch, ouch, ouch…”

“Are you okay? I’m so sorry, our Roni threw this…”

Chiwan kept apologizing profusely. However, the man addressed him with a kind voice.

“No, it’s my fault for being late. It’s understandable to be hit with a can.”

“What are you saying! We’re still ahead of the appointed time!”

“No, everyone else is already here… I should have been the first to arrive. I’m terribly sorry.”

The man, holding his head, stood up. He was a strikingly handsome young man with golden hair.

“Jaive, are you okay?”

A bald man approached him with concern.

“Yes, I’m fine. Professor, I’m sorry for the trouble.”

“Really… I’m so sorry, Professor Perain, for injuring your important disciple…”

“No, Chiwan, don’t worry about it.”

“Excuse me, I heard a loud noise, is everything okay?”

Clarina peeked into the room.

“Oh, you’re bleeding!”

She entered the room, approached Jaive, and gently examined his wound.

“Oh, please don’t mind me…”

“The wound… looks okay. Please hold this against it for a while.”

She swiftly took out a piece of cloth, tore it to a suitable size, and applied some medicine before pressing it against the man’s forehead.

“This will prevent infection.”

“Thank you. May I know your name?”

“Yes, I’m Clarina, working in this institute.”

“So, you are Clarina…”

She smiled softly, bowed gracefully, and left the room.

Unaware of these events, Roni was wiping her tears in Linos’s residence. Since it was a holiday, both Rico and Mei were home and comforted her after hearing her story.

“Thank you. I shouldn’t have considered marrying another man when I have someone I admire. This is a divine punishment. I must strive to deepen my bond with the person I admire.”

“Wow, this is the first time I’m hearing this! Who is he?”

Rico’s eyes sparkled with curiosity as she eagerly looked at Roni.

“I’ve only met him a few times and spoken a few words…”

“What a romantic story.”

Both Rico and Mei were intrigued by Roni’s tale of love, which began when she met him at a public questioning event in Aphrodite, the capital of the Crimeana Theocratic Nation. It all started when he casually removed some dirt from her ear on board an imperial ship.

“Ah, someone from the Empire? Then, I can ask my brother to investigate him. If he’s still single, perhaps we can arrange a marriage?”

“No, please don’t. I’d rather not resort to such measures. I wish to… naturally meet him again.”

“I understand that sentiment. How about meeting naturally at a party?”

“Oh, that’s a great idea.”

Roni’s ears perked up.

“Then it’s perfect. In two weeks, my brother Vairus will officially become an adopted member of the Glemont family and be appointed a duke. There will be an introduction party then. Roni, you should come too. If you’re there, I’ll feel more at ease at the party.”

“Really? Is that okay?”

“Yes, no problem at all.”

“Thank you! Vairus becoming a duke… So he’s no longer royalty?”

“Officially, yes. However, he’s marrying the first princess of the Warloff Empire, so he’ll essentially be treated like royalty.”

“A wife?”

“Yes. Along with Vairus’s investiture, the introduction of his wife is also planned.”

“What!?”

“Don’t worry so much. It’s a private party, so the guests’ social status isn’t an issue.”

“Vairus… is getting married?”

“Yes, finally. He has had his share of affairs, but now he’s settling down.”

“Affairs? Vairus has been with many women?”

“Well… as far as I know… over a hundred.”

“A hundred!?”

“I was worried he might get into trouble one day. But he’s good at handling breakups, so there were no issues. Now that he’s marrying, he should be devoted to his wife alone. I gave him a stern talking-to recently.”

“Ha… Ha ha ha…”

“So, about the man you admire, can you tell me more? His name? Age? What does he look like? Tall, has a mole… Tell me.”

“Thank you, but it’s okay… I must excuse myself.”

Roni left the mansion like a fleeing rabbit, teleporting back to her room. Then, Linos returned to the mansion.

“Did Roni leave? What? She refused the marriage proposal!?”

“Yes, apparently the man was much older…”

“I was planning a surprise! I asked Gon to build a new home for Roni – a 3LDK single-family house, with a second floor for future children, and even with furniture. What do we do with it now?”

Linos muttered, and Rico gently suggested.

“Well, Roni has someone she admires. If things work out with him, we can give them the house.”

“What? She has a man in mind? That’s Roni for you.”

Linos and Rico laughed together.

“That night, Roni cried into her pillow, saddened by Vairus’s marriage and his past with a hundred women.

Two weeks later, Roni, persuaded by Rico, attended Vairus’s party. She dodged questions about her admired man by claiming she was too busy with research. She held a faint hope that if Vairus’s wife was disappointing, she might have a chance.

But upon seeing the wife, a woman of unparalleled beauty, Roni realized her complete defeat. That night, she cried again.

For a while, Roni was downcast, but she recovered after hearing something Linos said to his daughters during a visit. Holding his daughters, he rubbed his face against theirs and said, “Eril, Aliria, grow up to be kind like mommy. A prince on a white horse will come for kind girls like you.”

“No, we like daddy!”

“That’s right! Eril, Aliria, stay with daddy forever.”

From then on, Roni believed that someday, her prince on a white horse would come for her.

Meanwhile, Jaive, originally meant to meet Roni, fell in love with Clarina at first sight and pursued her fiercely. Their efforts led to marriage. Later, Jaive joined the Agartha Institute, and the couple achieved many accomplishments, becoming a loving, envied couple. Jaive, who closely matched Roni’s ideal, never cheated and happily did household chores, cooking, and cleaning when Clarina was late. He was an ideal man for working women, and Roni would later deeply regret missing her chance with him. However, spring would eventually come for her too, but that’s another story.
