Chapter 235: The Wise Ruler and the Foolish Lord

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

In the underground vaults of the Papal Temple of the Crimeana Theocracy, a document known as “The Book of Sucre” is stored. This room is strictly concealed and protected by a barrier, accessible only to the Pope and a few senior officials.

The method of entry is a ring worn on the left hand by the Pope and these officials, serving as a permit for entry and exit. Upon the death of the Pope or an official, this ring and knowledge of “The Book of Sucre” are passed on to their successors.

This book now exceeds a thousand volumes, and the current Pope, Juvancel Sain, has just added the 1007th volume to the shelves. This newly bound volume, titled “The Kingdom of Agartha,” covers a recently established nation, rapidly growing in national power, military strength, and technological capabilities, becoming a significant presence for the Crimeana Theocracy. The first page bears the Pope’s handwritten notes.

Ruler: Basam Darke Linos (Male)

Character Assessment: A pawn, or perhaps an embodiment, of an evil deity. An enemy to the entire world.

Linos would laugh at this description. The “Book of Sucre” is essentially a historical record of nations in this world, compiled using the Crimeana’s extensive information network. This database, painstakingly created, is a testament to the strength of the Crimeana Theocracy. The officials, including past Popes, have chronicled significant events like royal deaths, coronations, marriages, births, rebellions, and disasters. When a new nation emerges, a new volume is created, passing this wealth of information to the next generation.

Among all the rulers recorded, Linos is rated the lowest. Another ruler, King Maintia of the Kingdom of Vladime, shares this low esteem.

Ruler: Vladime Roscano Maintia (Male)

Character Assessment: Born a fool, lacking judgment and discretion. A hedonist and illiterate.

The Kingdom of Vladime is five days by boat and two days on foot from Agartha. Surrounded by sea and mountains, it is a vast territory rich in food production. Education is widespread, with schools open to all social classes, a rarity in this world. Yet, the king receives the worst assessment from the Theocracy.

The kingdom’s prosperity is credited to the previous king, Vladime Roscano Reborn, and the current king, his son, has done little. Now 26, King Maintia spends his days immersed in his hobbies: women, art, and fine dining, neglecting his duties. The former King Reborn, though retired, has had to resume control to maintain the kingdom.

King Maintia’s descent into debauchery has been a deep concern for King Reborn, a ruler of great repute who overcame numerous hardships to achieve the kingdom’s current prosperity. The King’s son was once seen as bright and promising, but all attempts at reforming him have failed. As the only heir, there were considerations to adopt from another country, but the loyalists insisted on his coronation, hoping it would instill a sense of responsibility. However, his hedonism only escalated.

Since his coronation, he has filled his harem with over 50 women, not just from royal and noble families, but also indiscriminately with their maids. The situation has escalated to the point where he has fathered over 70 children.

The palace, Alison Castle, is now essentially a residence for women. With pregnant women and children resembling the king everywhere, the castle is fraught with jealousy and resentment. Despite his unrestrained lifestyle, King Maintia exhibits a feminist side.

King Reborn, exasperated, even suggested soundproofing the castle doors to reduce the noise, which only brought more reprimands upon the king. However, these admonishments fell on deaf ears. In a final act of despair, King Reborn considered dedicating part of his estate to the care of the mentally ill women and their children. This was the breaking point.

King Reborn declared, “My grandchildren are the noble offspring of knights.” He then organized a massive military and magical exercise in the fields opposite the king’s castle, causing a tumultuous uproar.

This marked the irreparable rift between King Reborn and his son, King Maintia.

Fearing for the future of his kingdom after his death, King Reborn considered one potential ally: King Linos of Agartha. In just a few years, Linos not only revived the chaotic Kingdom of Juka but also eradicated two deadly epidemics with his exceptional skills. Furthermore, he stood up to the formidable Crimeana Theocracy.

Although the Vladime Kingdom initially supported the Theocracy, relations cooled under the new king. Meanwhile, King Reborn, a proponent of learning, supported Linos’s initiative to establish a research institute for epidemic eradication. A presentation of their findings was scheduled in three months.

Deciding to consult with King Linos, King Reborn summoned his Chancellor, Aussai. He instructed Aussai to arrange their attendance at the medical research presentation in Agartha, bringing along King Maintia. Despite the risk of leaving the kingdom leaderless, King Reborn felt this was necessary.

King Reborn then penned a letter to King Linos of Agartha:

“Dear King Linos of Agartha, I am delighted to accept the invitation to your medical research presentation. I, along with my foolish son, the current king, would be honored to attend and engage our intellectual curiosity. I also humbly request a meeting with you to discuss a matter of great importance.”

Though a bit overly humble, King Reborn felt the urgency of the situation warranted it. Sealing the letter with wax, he dispatched a messenger to King Linos.

From his retirement residence, King Reborn gazed intently at Alison Castle, a sharp look in his eyes.
