Chapter 236: The Journey to Agartha

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

On a morning still gripped by the heat of late summer, in Orbiz, the capital of the Kingdom of Vladime, a squadron of 50 cavalrymen slowly departed from Alison Castle. Accompanying them were two carriages, ostensibly for escorting the kingdom’s researchers to a conference in the Kingdom of Agartha.

However, the truth was that inside the carriages were King Maintia of Vladime and his father, the Grand King Reborn. Despite the absence of the two royal figures, Grand King Reborn had taken meticulous care to ensure that state affairs would run smoothly in their absence.

Grand King Reborn had arranged a double for himself to handle public appearances, while entrusting all government matters to his trusted chancellor, Aussai. Only a few knew of this arrangement, ensuring no leaks of information. As for King Maintia, his usual lack of involvement in state affairs meant his absence went largely unnoticed.

The guarded carriages proceeded solemnly along the road. Initially, Grand King Reborn had planned to share a carriage with his son Maintia, intending to reprimand him. However, sensing his father’s intentions, King Maintia feigned illness to avoid leaving the castle. Eventually, they were separated into different carriages to appease King Maintia.

Despite traveling together, the father and son’s behaviors were starkly different. Grand King Reborn was a seriously earnest and strict man. He meticulously planned the journey to Agartha, scheduling every detail. During the carriage rides through his kingdom, he observed the landscape and people meticulously, even straining to overhear conversations. On the ship, he passed time by reading, having prepared two boxes filled with fifteen political books, weighing about 40 kg in total.

In contrast, King Maintia enjoyed the journey at his own pace, often sketching the beautiful landscapes he saw from the carriage, even compiling a travelogue of drawings. His interactions with others were limited to avoid meeting his father.

However, one thing troubled King Maintia during the journey: the absence of female companionship. Accustomed to the company of women at Alison Castle, he found the solitude unbearable. In his travel diary, he wrote a poem reflecting his loneliness, finding solace in the moonlight as his only companion.

Upon reaching Agartha, the party made a brief stop in a small village amidst farmland. While Grand King Reborn continued his diligent observations, King Maintia relaxed under a tree, captivated by the sight of local women working in the fields, their appearances reflecting the day’s heat.

That day, a welcoming party for the conference participants was held at the guesthouse in Agartha. Here, the differences between father and son were again evident. Grand King Reborn, believing it unseemly to indulge in excess at such events, had eaten beforehand and engaged in conversations with the scholars. King Maintia, on the other hand, indulged in the lavish food and interacted freely with the attendees.

Observing this scene from a peephole in an adjacent room, Linos, the party organizer, noted the peculiar behavior of the Vladime royalty. Despite their oddities, he hoped their presence wouldn’t lead to any complications as he prepared to make his own appearance at the party. (T/N: It probably will)
