Chapter 239: Dealing with a Troublesome Situation

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

Upon teleporting to the imperial mansion in the capital, I found that dinner had long since ended. Rico and Matokal had already retired for the night with the children. Soleil and Ferris were taking a bath. In the dining room, Gon, Mei, Peyris, Luala, and Sidy were waiting for Linos’s return.

“Welcome back, Lord Linos.”

“I’m back, Sidy.”

“Dinner… would you like something to eat?”

Peyris stood up and spoke to Linos. Hearing her voice somehow made me incredibly hungry.

“Yeah, I’d like something light to eat. By the way, Peyris, aren’t you graduating soon? Think you’ll make it?”

“No problem. I’ll prepare something.”

Saying that, Peyris headed to the kitchen.

“Lady Peyris is an outstanding student at the university and will likely graduate top of her class.”

“Really? What will Peyris do after graduation?”

“Master, have you forgotten? You talked about establishing a university and inviting Lady Peyris to teach there.”

“…No? I remember, right?”

Mei and Sidy looked confused. Wait, hadn’t I mentioned this plan to anyone? This could be troublesome. If I don’t act quickly, Peyris might end up unemployed under the guise of being a freelancer.

However, my current priority is the King of Vladime. I relayed to Gon and the others what I had discussed with the king earlier and sought their advice on what to do.

“It might be good to take him in as a hostage. He’s quite the figure for it.”

“Hostage… I don’t intend that. Besides, guarding that king would be troublesome, especially given his notorious womanizing.”

“He has 70 children, doesn’t he? He reminds me of my father.”

“Yes, Luala. Although he’s probably not as bad as your father.”

“Considering our relationship with Crimeana and our country, we can’t ignore his nation.”

“What do you mean, Gon?”

Gon transformed into his human form and started drawing a map on a piece of paper. He explained to Linos and the others while showing them the map.

“Our country has strong alliances with Heideta, Lamaron, and Niza. The Kingdom of Sundanji, where King Nike resides, lies between our country and Crimeana. And to the north of Sundanji, bordering the sea, is the Kingdom of Vladime.”

“…So, what does that mean?”

“If we align with Vladime, they can attack Crimeana from behind if they invade. This country is strategically important for Crimeana. It’s a perfect buffer for us. They also have abundant rice production and considerable military technology, especially their famous aerial attacks using long-necked birds. If we favor King Mantia and the great king, it would be beneficial for us.”

Linos sighed deeply. It was understandable; the weak point of Agarta was indeed aerial attacks.

Agarta had significant land forces, including infantry, cavalry, and magic. Linos’s barrier provided defense, and the Fairy Dragons, led by Sadakichi, offered excellent intelligence, allowing them to fight effectively even with fewer numbers.

However, the situation in the air was not as solid. The mountain range to the west of Agarta was untouched. If an enemy could cross these mountains and launch an aerial attack, we would be forced into a defensive position.

Linos’s barrier could cover the entire city, but it was challenging to maintain this defense across all Agartan cities continuously. I had discussed this with Geneha, but she and her family were not planning to expand their numbers, making it physically difficult to defend Agarta’s skies.

Furthermore, looking at our ally, the Lamaron Empire, focusing on maritime and aerial defense was difficult while prioritizing domestic reconstruction. If Crimeana attacked Lamaron by sea or air, they would be quickly overrun. There were already reports of numerous military ships docking at the port of Aphrodite, the capital of the Theocratic Nation, and more being built.

Linos, an optimist at heart, had initially thought that these issues could be addressed slowly. However, Gon, Ferris, and Luala had corrected him. For aerial defense, he considered enlisting the help of dragons, and for maritime defense, he thought of seeking assistance from Luala’s father, King Poseidon.

However, these strategies had ultimately failed. The dragons, through Soleil, had been approached about cooperating, but they typically did not leave their territories. The case of Ferris’s Kururukans leaving their territory for training was an exception. Kururukans would not lead their tribe out of their territory, focusing instead on protecting it.

The Fairy Dragons serving Linos were a rare case. They had attacked when Fairi, their Sinjo, had fled, and Linos happened to pass near their territory. Subduing the dragon and having the entire tribe serve humans was unprecedented in dragon history.

Originally, Linos had explored using the method of Marshal Calgi of the Juka Kingdom, who used Wyverns. However, this required enormous effort. According to the God Dragon, Wyverns were not strictly dragons but a subspecies. They did not speak or communicate telepathically, so they needed to be trained like dogs or cats.

Training adult dragons was challenging, so training had to start from when they were young dragons. However, this process was incredibly time-consuming. Calgi’s method of hatching Wyvern eggs and training them as servants was very unusual. Thus, establishing an effective aerial force using dragons had not been feasible.

As for cooperation with King Poseidon, their schedules never aligned, and even Luala, his own daughter, wouldn’t be able to see him for another two years. This was because he prioritized spending time with his over a thousand concubines. The only option was to send letters, and responses were still pending.

Therefore, the maritime strategy was limited to asking Tori-chan, Poseidon’s chief wife living deep in the Galby sea, to stir the sea if enemies attacked Galby.

“If the king were wise, there would be no hesitation. But with him, I’m not sure. I can’t imagine he knows how to use the long-necked birds, and if we take him in, who knows what trouble he might cause. I’m really concerned about the future.”

“How about we tell King Reborn that we’ll take care of King Maintia as a student, but if anything happens, we’re not responsible. Also, if he misbehaves or does anything else that you, Master, deem problematic, we’ll send him back immediately?”

“That’s a good idea. I agree with Gon. It’ll reduce the threat to our nation. However, a man of his lustful nature is never satisfied with just one woman and will endlessly seek more. The likelihood of him causing problems in that regard is very high, so we need to monitor him strictly, but Ferris and I will manage it.”

“That sounds good. We’ll gradually discuss the long-necked birds, depending on the king’s behavior. It’s fine to ask about their use initially, but if he doesn’t change, it might lead to complications later.”

“Understood. I agree. I’d rather keep my distance from that country. And about the king… let’s leave it to Luala. Mei, Sidy, do you agree with Gon and Luala’s opinions?”

Both nodded.

“I’ll discuss it with Rico and Mat in the morning. I’m sure they won’t oppose.”

“Alright, it’s ready. Sorry to keep you waiting.”

Perfect timing. Peyris brought in the meal. She skillfully laid out an omelet with bean sprouts, a salad, tofu, and fruits on the dining table.

“Wow! Looks delicious and easy on the stomach.”

“Wow! Looks so good! Master, can I have some too?”

“Didn’t you already eat?”

“Come on, it’s fine.”

“Luala, there’s some leftover omelet. Would you like that?”

“Thank you, Peyris! I’ll take it.”

“Luala sure loves to eat. I’m getting a bit hungry too.”

“Gon, there’s extra pear. Would you like some?”

“Thank you, Peyris.”

“Don’t overeat, everyone. Don’t blame me if you get fat.”

There, at Linos’s dining table, surrounded by smiles as usual. However, Linos, Gon, and Luala were soon to become deeply involved with King Maintia…

Unaware of what lay ahead, these three contentedly savored their meal.
