Chapter 240: An Interesting Story

“Then, I kindly ask for your cooperation.”

Reborn King Roscano smiled broadly, gripping Linos’ hand firmly with both of his. Although his face was smiling, his features were still intimidating. Eventually, he agreed to take care of King Maintia in Agartha, and Linos, hiding his fear and annoyance, could only respond with a wry smile.

A few hours earlier, Linos had discussed this matter with Rico and Matokal while having breakfast. The idea of taking care of a reigning king was so absurd that they were speechless, with Rico even closing her eyes in deep thought. Ultimately, they decided to leave the decision to Linos.

Reluctantly, Linos, accompanied by Mei, teleported to Agartha. Mei, dressed formally and beautifully made up by Rico’s hand, was stunningly beautiful, a small consolation for Linos.

The meeting between King Roscano and King Maintia, father and son, apparently ended in less than a minute.

“Father, I will be studying in Agartha for a while.”

“Umu.”

That was the extent of their conversation.

Having confirmed the intentions of both parties, Linos decided to label the arrangement as a study abroad and set four conditions for King Roscano:

The treatment of the king will be entirely at Agartha’s discretion.

Agartha will ensure the king’s safety but won’t be responsible for any unforeseen incidents. The duration of the king’s study will be one year.

If any issues arise with the king, the Agartha king can shorten the study period.

Although seemingly irresponsible, King Roscano and King Maintia agreed without objection.

Afterward, King Roscano, relieved as if a great burden had been lifted, chatted amiably with Mei, praising her presentation at the conference and asking various questions, which she answered sincerely.

“See? It turned out just as I said,” said King Maintia, still smiling, to Linos.

Linos, with a look of disbelief, replied, “This is unprecedented.”

“Ha ha ha, don’t worry. I’ll make sure not to cause any trouble for the King of Agartha. Right, Patterson?”

Patterson, a young servant, bowed respectfully and whispered to Linos, “We will cover all expenses for our king’s stay and will try our best not to trouble you.”

“It might seem obvious, but for those who know my father, it’s an extraordinary gesture. He’s frugal and dislikes wasting money, yet he’s willing to cover all expenses for me. Perhaps a natural disaster is imminent,” laughed the king.

Patterson, looking apologetic, lowered his head to Linos, who looked at the ceiling and sighed before responding, “You’ll need a woman for cooking, cleaning, and personal care. Why not call someone from your country? If not, you can hire someone in Agartha, and I’ll let King Roscano know.”

“Brilliant! If we refuse your suggestion, it implies our country lacks capable women. I’ll speak to King Roscano. Thank you so much!”

King Roscano, overhearing their whispering, approached them. “Please take good care of my foolish son. And King of Agartha, your wife is a wonderful woman. I envy you! Do visit our country sometime. Maybe host a conference there and share your knowledge with our youth.”

Gripping Linos’ hands tightly, King Roscano turned to his son and the servants, “Learn well.” Then, he left the room, bowing to Mei as he passed her.

Patterson quickly followed him out. King Maintia, now sitting on a sofa, spoke to Linos, “Let’s see if Patterson can persuade my father. In the meantime, can you tell me an interesting story?”

“An interesting story?”

“Yes, I’d love to hear one. If you find your story interesting, I’ll grant you any one request.”

“Anything?”

“Yes, anything within my power. Even if it’s to end my life.”

Linos, after a pause, began, “Once upon a time, there lived an old man and an old woman. The old man went to the mountains to gather firewood, and the old woman to the river to wash clothes. There, she found a giant peach floating down the river. Surprised, the old man returned home to find the peach. ‘Oh! What a big peach!’ They decided to eat it, but when the old woman cut it open, out came a cute little boy. They named him Momotaro and raised him lovingly… (I’ll skip some parts for brevity). Walking along the road, Momotaro met a white dog. The dog asked for a kibi-dango (millet dumpling) from Momotaro’s waist. ‘You are a very white dog,’ Momotaro said. ‘Pure white, even your tail is white. Tail… white… A tail-white story. How’s that for an interesting story?’”

Mei tried to suppress her laughter. King Maintia, taking notes, asked for more details about the middle part. Surprised, Linos exclaimed, “Don’t go spreading that story elsewhere!”

Mei burst into laughter, filling the room with joy.
