“What a revelation… to forge a brotherly bond with King Poseidon himself… This is an unparalleled joy for us.”

Layfence, speaking with a genuinely delighted expression, beams with a full smile before turning his gaze back to King Poseidon.

“King Poseidon, we have become sworn brothers. From now on, we will support each other. However, there is one troubling matter.”

King Poseidon looks puzzled at Layfence’ unexpected words.

“Troubling? Is there something that hinders our brotherly pact?”

“No, nothing like that. It’s just that we are mere humans, lacking the power you possess, and often find ourselves weak. It pains me to think that we might frequently seek your assistance.”

The old general closes his eyes, shaking his head in apparent apology. King Poseidon responds with a gentle smile.

“There’s no need for such formality. Once we are brothers, helping each other in times of crisis is natural. You should ask without hesitation.”

“How reassuring your words are! To be frank, our kingdom of Agartha is under threat of invasion from the Crimeana religious state. I’ve heard that their capital, Aphrodite’s Port, is preparing numerous warships to attack us. If those were gone, we could always have pleasant conversations about love with you, King Poseidon… But your words have eased my worries. Should they attack us, I will consult with you.”

King Poseidon nods slowly, closing his eyes. After a moment of silence, he opens them again, a soft smile on his face.

“Crimeana, that’s the island nation in the Tarpis Sea, right? Yes, I remember seeing many ships anchored there. They reeked of blood and iron. I’d rather not have them disturb the sea… Alright.”

King Poseidon looks up at the ceiling, moving his right index finger as if writing something in the air. Finally, he points upwards, pausing for a moment before turning his gaze back to us.

“Everything has been taken care of, no more worries.”

“Taken care of?”

“Yes, be at ease.”

“Wow! As expected of our brother! I, Layfence, am overwhelmed with joy.”

The old general bows respectfully. King Poseidon, watching him, nods in satisfaction. Unbeknownst to us at the time, massive explosions and tidal waves were destroying the warships at Aphrodite’s Port, causing significant damage.

King Poseidon then turns his gaze slowly to me.

“I remember now, King of Agartha. You and your daughter calmed the wrath of my wife, Amphitrite. That was a great help. She rarely sees me. I haven’t yet thanked you for that, so today is a good opportunity. Brother, feel free to visit anytime and share more of your unique love stories.”

“That’s a wonderful idea! King of Agartha’s knowledge isn’t limited to just that. I’d love to hear it too. How about it, King Poseidon, or rather, big brother? How about we regularly gather to listen to the stories of the King of Agartha?”

“Sounds good. Let’s do that.”

…Ignoring me, the two of them continue their excited conversation. Love stories? Impossible for a guy like me who doesn’t attract love. But it’s clear now, King Poseidon isn’t just a name. I’ll need to have Sadakichi investigate, especially about the Crimeana ships he claimed to have destroyed. I saw their ships in Galby, they were enormous. To obliterate dozens of them at once… an incredible power.

Lost in these thoughts, I watch King Poseidon and King Maintia continue their animated discussion.

“Indeed. We shouldn’t wait too long. Meeting every five years seems appropriate, though it’s quite frequent.”

“Five years?”

King Maintia is visibly surprised by King Poseidon’s unexpected suggestion. Indeed, five years is a long time.

“Yes, that seems about right. However, we humans have shorter lifespans. This old man might not be of this world when we next meet.”

Layfence speaks with a gentle smile.

“I’ve heard human lifespans are short… Very well then…”

King Poseidon magically produces a small box and places it on the table.

“Keep this with you at all times. It should ward off misfortune until we meet again in five years.”

“What a marvelous gift for an old man like me!”

The old general joyfully accepts the box with gratitude. Could this be like the box Urashima Taro received in the Dragon Palace legend? The one that aged him when opened? Since he’s already old, opening it wouldn’t matter?

King Poseidon, having watched Layfence’ reaction with satisfaction, turns to us again.

“Well, I am content. Then, brothers, let’s meet again in five years! And remember, here in the… ah yes, the Coral Peach Garden… let’s not forget this oath of the Peach Garden!”

The Oath of the Peach Garden! He just referenced the famous “Oath of the Peach Garden” scene! Fans of that story would be furious! And not just the fans, but those three heroes themselves might be angry! Plus, we’re one person too many!

Ignoring my stunned reaction, King Maintia and the old general bow respectfully. King Poseidon, satisfied with their reverence, slowly stands up, looks at me with a smile, and then disappears into the back of the garden.

“Please follow me.”

Startled by a sudden voice from behind, we turn and follow the man. After a short walk, we return to the throne room. Karyat, standing there as before, points to the door and speaks.

“Thank you for your efforts! Please proceed slowly without stopping! Head straight to the door without pause. Thank you for your visit today! Our king is greatly satisfied. We sincerely appreciate your visit!”

It sounds like an announcement ushering people out at the end of a live concert. With that thought, we glare at Karyat and leave the throne room. Expecting to be led to the castle gate, we are instead taken to another room, resembling a conference room with a large table and several chairs. In the room, a man with a face like a red octopus waits.

The moment he sees us, his face turns bright red, and his eyes widen.

What’s this? Is he angry? I don’t recall ever offending an octopus…
