Chapter 261: The Coffin and Rico, Alas, She Died

Leave a Comment / Reincarnation into a barrier master / By IX

“You just stand there and breathe!”

At first glance, these harsh words spoken by Roni seemed like nothing short of workplace harassment. It was rare for her to express her anger so openly. Linos watched this scene unfold from the dining table with an indescribable look on his face.

The incident began when Rico’s due date was just five days away, prompting Roni to stay overnight at Linos’ mansion. For her, staying at the mansion meant being constantly by Rico’s side, ready to respond to any emergencies, while also being able to discuss current research progress, problems, and questions with Mei and Sidy. Additionally, she saw it as an opportunity to discuss her concerns and future plans for Sidy’s pregnancy, which had finally entered a stable phase. Hence, she decided to head to Linos’ mansion earlier than planned.

Unbeknownst to others, Roni eagerly awaited this day, counting down the days for the delicious meals served three times a day at Linos’ mansion – a secret she kept to herself.

As she packed her bags for a few days and prepared to teleport to Linos’ mansion, a Pousehai suddenly appeared before her.

“Who are you? Who’s there?”

It was unusual for a Pousehai to teleport without any prior mental communication and consent from the other party, except in emergencies. Understandably, Roni was startled.

“Ronieee…”

The Pousehai, familiarly calling her name, suddenly hugged her upon arrival. Completely unexpected, even Roni was caught off guard, her body freezing in shock and confusion.

“It’s been so long… I’ve missed you…”

“Please let go! Who are you?”

“It’s me, Roni! It’s Dorki, your fiancé! Wow, it’s been a while. You haven’t changed at all, Roni. Your appearance, your magical aura, everything’s just as it was.”

“Ahh…”

Roni looked up at the sky with a look of disappointment and sighed heavily, shaking her head slowly.

“I’m busy right now. Please don’t disturb me. Besides, I don’t remember being engaged to you.”

“What are you talking about, Roni?”

“Don’t call me so casually. I have work to do. Please leave!”

She grabbed the man by the collar and threw him out of the room, then locked the door and quickly teleported to Linos’ mansion with her bags.

“I’m sorry for being late.”

Upon arriving at Linos’ mansion, Roni immediately dropped her luggage in her room and headed to Rico’s room.

“Roni… I’m feeling a bit of pain in my stomach.”

Rico said with a worried look, gently stroking her enlarged belly. Eril watched her mother with concern.

“It might be labor pains. Let me examine you.”

Roni gently touched Rico’s belly to begin examining the fetus.

Hearing that Rico might be in labor, we quickly began preparations. I carried Rico to the first-floor birthing room, telling her it was better to move early even if it wasn’t certain whether she was in labor yet. Eril and Aliria were worried but also intrigued by the prospect of a new sibling.

The birthing room was ready, and after handing Rico over to Roni, I returned to the dining room. The water was already boiling, and Ferris took some to the room. This being the third childbirth, everyone knew their roles, making the process smooth.

Luala and Peyris went to prepare the birthing room further, with Mei following them out of the dining room. I stayed with Matokal, Sidy, and Soleil to look after Eril and Aliria.

“Will Lady Rico be alright…?”

Soleil expressed her concern, which Sidy confidently reassured.

“There should be no problem.”

“Why so confident?”

“I have no evidence, but I’m sure.”

“Sidy’s intuition has been accurate lately…”

As we talked, the space in a corner of the dining room began to warp, and a young Pousehai male appeared to be teleporting in.

“Huh? What’s this? Who’s that? Doesn’t look like Chiwan.”

The young Pousehai fell to the dining room floor, gasping for air, immediately after teleporting.

“Who are you?”

Matokal, protecting Eril and Aliria, reached for her sword hilt. The man pulled out a small bottle from his pocket, drank from it, and after a few moments, his breathing normalized. He then looked around, appearing confused and anxious.

“Ugh… I didn’t expect to use so much magical power. Huh? Where is this? I followed Roni’s magical power here…”

“Are you a Pousehai? You’re a new face. A friend of Roni’s? She’s currently assisting with a birth. And you are… who?”

I gestured to Matokal to hold off and questioned the man who had suddenly teleported into our house. Being able to teleport here without malicious intent was a good sign. He seemed like a decent person, so I decided to trust him.

“Ah, I’m Dorki, Roni’s fiancé.”

“Fiancé, you say?”

“Lord Linos!”

Suddenly, Roni’s voice echoed through the room, causing us all to turn towards her. There stood Roni, with a serious expression on her face.

“Congratulations. The child has been born.”

“Born? It’s only been about 30 minutes since you went into the birthing room?”

“Yes, shortly after that, the real labor pains started, and after just three pushes, the baby was born.”

“Really? And Rico? The child? Is it a boy or a girl?”

Roni bowed slightly and began to speak.

“The coffin’s child, alas, has died!”

“What?”

“The coffin’s child, alas, has died, I say!”

“…The coffin and Rico, alas, she died? What does that mean!?”

Roni looked puzzled. After a moment of silence, the room burst into laughter.

“It means the heir to the throne, alas, has been born, Lord Linos. It’s a way to announce the birth of a direct heir to a king, a phrase that’s rarely used, maybe once in a lifetime.”

“S… So it’s a boy! How’s Rico? Are mother and child both well? Yes!? Roni, thank you! It’s all thanks to you!”

I couldn’t contain my joy.

“Congratulations!”

Everyone in the family congratulated me with smiles. Eril and Aliria were delighted to hear they had a new brother.

“Congratulations! I don’t fully understand, but it’s a boy? The heir to the throne, alas, has been born, so you must be a king? My apologies for not realizing sooner. Congratulations indeed!”

Somehow, the Pousehai claiming to be Roni’s fiancé offered his polite congratulations. Roni then spoke up.

“Dorki! What are you doing here?”

“Ah, Roni, I finally found you. I followed your magical power, but this mansion has such faint magical signals, it was hard to find.”

“Please leave!”

“Don’t be like that. Sorry for not sending my thoughts first, but don’t be mad.”

“That’s not the issue! Leave, now!”

“Well, Roni, since your fiancé has come all this way…”

“Fiancé? Are you a fool? There’s no way that’s true!”

Roni called me a fool. I mean, I am the king, right? Embarrassed, I collapsed into a chair. Dorki then spoke up confidently.

“What are you talking about, Roni? We promised, didn’t we? When we both grow up, we’d get married…”

“That was when we were five! A promise from childhood can’t possibly still be valid! And where have you been all this time? Ignoring Chiwan’s summons, what have you been doing? You’re supposed to be practicing medicine, right? What are you doing now?”

“Now… I run a restaurant.”

“Huh?”

“Well, it’s more of a pastry shop now.”

“A pastry shop? And you’re still a Pousehai?”

“Roni…”

Dorki walked towards Roni with a serious expression, unlike any he’d shown before. We all held our breath, watching.

“I understand why you’re angry, and I apologize for that. I want you to hear me out, truly.”

As he spoke, he gently embraced Roni.

“I never properly proposed, did I? Roni, let’s build a home together…ugh!”

Before he knew it, Roni’s right hand had deeply struck Dorki’s stomach. He slowly collapsed to his knees on the floor.

“I’m working right now. Please don’t disturb me!”

Without a second glance at the groaning Dorki, Roni straightened her back, bowed to us, and spoke.

“My apologies for the unsightly scene. Lady Ricolette is waiting. Please, everyone, come to the birthing room!”

Hearing her, Dorki slowly stood up, still reeling from the body blow. His legs trembled, yet he tried to speak to Roni with a shaky voice.

“I… I can help too. Just tell me what to do.”

It seemed as though a snap came from Roni. Her face quickly turned angry.

“Just breathe!”

“Excuse me?”

“There’s nothing you can do! Just stand there and breathe! That’s all! Don’t move an inch! It’s not difficult, understand?”

…I just want to see my wife and child soon.
