Chapter 83: Drunk (1)

The first episode of “The Actor” would start soon. Cen Yu, well-known film emperor, was the host; Zhuang Jin, the new actor, was the permanent guest’ and Ye Sui, a popular actress with haters, was the special guest this time. There were too many things to watch.

The audience was eagerly waiting, and the netizens also gathered around their screens. Before the program started, a lot of comments appeared on the bullet screen.

“Looking forward to Cen Yu’s hosting. He will definitely not let us down!”

“Zhuang Jin and Ye Sui fought for Dior’s ambassador spot, and now, they are participating in this variety show together. Are these two people going to fight to the end?”

“Listen, everyone, Ye Sui is going to lose face. She overreached herself, trying to challenge a rising star. What gall!”

Cen Yu stepped onto the stage and said with a smile, “Good evening, everyone. This is my first time as a host…”

Once Cen Yu opened his mouth, the fans could not help screaming, “Wow! Idol is too handsome.”

After finishing his opening remarks, he began to introduce the permanent guests before Ye Sui as their special guest. Finally, he announced the process tonight.

“The first stage is a competition between Zhuang Jin and Ye Sui in acting skills. The program team has set a scene for them.”

Ye Sui and Zhuang Jin focused as Cen Yu continued, “I’ll play the role of a sick prince. I was framed and have a bad temper.”

“You’ll act as the prince’s maidservants and bring the medicine in. Make the rest of the plot according to your abilities.”

Ye Sui froze. Was that all? Zhuang Jin also felt odd.

Cen Yu: “The key point of this stage is to act by yourself. The direction of the plot is up to you to decide. I will act according to your performance.”

Cen Yu looked at the audience and made a joke, “I haven’t played such a role before. I hope everyone will be more tolerant.”

Cen Yu was so modest that the fans’ comments immediately filled the whole bullet screen.

Ye Sui and Zhuang Jin had a few minutes to think. As the resident guest, Zhuang Jin would perform first. She thought that if Ye Sui defeated her in the first stage,  her face would be really lost.

So this time, she could only win; losing was not an option!

The netizens were also guessing who would be the winner. Anyway, their answers were consistent: of course, Zhuang Jin.

Ye Sui had played a slightly famous role as an unruly princess. But how much acting skill did that require? Now she had to think and act on her feet and wash their malicious comments away.

Ye Sui would definitely be abused by Zhuang Jin to the point that not a single scrap remained.

On this side, the play between Zhuang Jin and Cen Yu began.

When the light dimmed down, Cen Yu sat on the couch. The light only illuminated Cen Yu’s front, creating a dark atmosphere.

Zhuang Jin carried the medicine bowl and walked step by step to Cen Yu. She bent down and brought the medicine directly to him.

“Master, drink your medicine.”

Cen Yu’s voice was icy. He spat out two words without any expression, “Get out.”

Zhuang Jin knew that Cen Yu was playing the sickly, ill-tempered prince. She patiently pressed the bowl forward a little. “This medicine has just been prepared by this servant. Master should be careful about his own body…”

Before she could finish talking, Cen Yu’s face sank. He moved his hand, raised his sleeve, and suddenly slapped the medicine bowl.

“Bang!” The bowl fell to the ground with a crisp sound.

Then came Cen Yu’s icy voice, “Get out!”

Zhuang Jin was frightened. She fell to the ground, and her eyes were horrified, as if Cen Yu had just played a tyrant character in reality.

Since the main character could no longer act, the lights trend back on, signifying the end of the play. Zhuang Jin waited for a while before standing up calmly, forgetting that she was still on the stage.

Cen Yu quickly snapped out of his acting role. He stood up and looked at Zhuang Jin apologetically. His voice had returned to its usual gentleness. “I’m sorry I scared you just now.”

The comment section suddenly burst into action.

“Oh, my! I almost cried! Cen Yu’s acting was so good! He is worthy of being my idol!”

Chapter 83: Drunk (2)

“Poor Zhuang Jin was scared silly before she could even say a few lines. It’s really difficult to confront Cen Yu’s acting.”

“Zhuang Jin was completely crushed by Cen Yu. What about Ye Sui? Will she be so scared as to say a single line?”

Zhuang Jin was at a loss on the stage. She knew that she had performed poorly. Nonetheless, because Cen Yu’s acting skills were so excellent that she had no shame even if she failed.

She didn’t believe Ye Sui could act in front of Cen Yu. After all, her experience was too shallow; Ye Sui would make a fool of herself later. She just had to wait and see.

Ye Sui didn’t know Zhuang Jin’s thoughts at all. In the audience, she had carefully studied Cen Yu’s role.

The sickly prince, once frustrated, now devastated…

To confront Cen Yu directly was not wise, so she should do it in a different way.

Ye Sui stood on the stage, and the light fell on her. Her simple and unusual dress appeared a little old. Yet, her skin was snow-white and delicate, without any blemish.

Her ultimate beauty couldn’t be concealed, but it gathered some sharpness due to the quiet and dim atmosphere.

“Even if Ye Sui is dressed so simply, her beauty is still killing Zhuang Jin.”

“Let’s make a bet: Will Ye Sui hold out longer on the stage than Zhuang Jin? I bet Zhuang Jin; after all, her success is not a lie.”

“Although Zhuang Jin was scared, I bet she will win. Ye Sui is not a reality show star and has no acting skills.”

“Since no one is optimistic about Ye Sui, I will bet on her. Maybe she can turn over the plate.”

Ye Sui, who couldn’t win in the hearts of netizens, stood on the stage, ready to start performing.

Cen Yu just sat on the couch and entered his role. His face turned gloomy, as if it would erupt in the next second. It was frightening.

Ye Sui walked to the table with the medicine bowl. She lowered her head without looking at Cen Yu and put the medicine bowl down on her own. Then she started pouring tea slowly.

From the beginning to the end, Ye Sui always leaned sideways without looking at Cen Yu, as if he were invisible.

Right from the get-go, Ye Sui had already occupied the dominant position and would not be led by the nose like Zhuang Jin.

Cen Yu looked at Ye Sui, and he still said indifferently, “Go out.”

It was not until now that Ye Sui raised her head and glanced at Cen Yu. She picked up the medicine bowl on the table and tilted it slightly with her lips slightly open.

“Since the prince doesn’t drink medicine, I’ll pour it out.”

Ye Sui turned out to be completely out of the ordinary. The audience opened their eyes wide, surprised at her out-of-the-box thinking.

Seeing that Ye Sui was about to pour out the medicine, Cen Yu fumed with anger, “You dare!”

Cen Yu was obviously furious, but Ye Sui was not afraid at all. She met Cen Yu’s eyes and spoke slowly, “I’m just a servant girl who signed a death contract, but the prince is depressed every day. Besides, I can see that the royal family is about to fall, and the prince will eventually become a useless person. therefore this servant had nothing to fear.”

Cen Yu raised his eyes and said in a frigid tone, “Aren’t you afraid I’ll kill you?”

Ye Sui: “I offended Master a moment ago, but please allow me to be a little more insolent before deciding whether or not to take the life of this slave.”

Cen Yu didn’t speak; it was equivalent to agreeing to her.

“Master was framed, and there is a thorn in your heart. However, this sharp thorn will be pulled out by you one day.” Ye Sui’s cold and calm voice sounded.

Her tone then turned sharp. “Even if the enemy has the sharpest sword in their hands, there will be a day when it becomes dull. No matter how perfect a plan is, it’s hard to guarantee that there are no mistakes.”

Ye Sui kept her head slightly lowered when she spoke. The chin did not droop too much, nor did it rise high. It was neither too humble nor too disdainful.

At the risk of being executed, she spoke outrageously but always conveyed her words with respect.

Ye Sui then concluded. “As long as the prince controls his temper and shows his sharpness, it will not be too late after ten years. The situation in the world has not yet come to a result. Who wins or loses, it all depends on your own strength.”

Cen Yu kept staring at Ye Sui, his eyes changing from cold and ruthless to shocked and finally to tranquility.

Cen Yu held out his hand, “Bring me the medicine.”

Chapter 83: Drunk (3)

When the play was over, Cen Yu smiled approvingly, “It was a good performance.”

Ye Sui: “Thank you.”

The bullet screen suddenly exploded.

“Ye Sui has tamed the sick and grumpy prince. It’s awesome. This performance is so wonderful; I want to watch it again!”

“Cen Yu praised Ye Sui. It seems that Ye Sui is indeed good.”

“Whoever said Ye Sui could only play the unruly princess, step forward! You’d be sorry if you don’t praise her hundreds of times for her acting skills.”

Zhuang Jin’s face was pale. Ye Sui was able to come up with such a method. From Ye Sui’s first line, she had already lost.

Cen Yu had regained his status as the host again, his face full of smiles. “Vote now. Vote for whoever you liked.”

The votes rolled little by little. Ye Sui looked cool, but Zhuang Jin did not dare to look at the score. Time passed, and finally, the score was fixed.

Ye Sui’s score was three times that of Zhuang Jin, winning by an overwhelming margin!

Zhuang Jin’s face became even uglier. Cen Yu smiled and said, “Congratulations to Ye Sui for winning.” He then looked at Zhuang Jin again. “Zhuang Jin also performed well. I was too deep in the play and broke your medicine bowl just now. I will make amends to you.”

As soon as this sentence came out, the audience laughed. It was not appropriate for Zhuang Jin to remain angry anymore.

Ye Sui’s performance made a woman who was neither humble nor overbearing be presented to everyone. Across the screen, everyone could feel the exuberant vitality.

Besides, Zhuang Jin had performed first, and when she failed, Ye Sui would be under enormous pressure. Public opinion was also inclined to Zhuang Jin. For Ye Sui, every aspect was questioned.

Ye Sui was not affected by these factors, however. She went in the opposite direction. It was a dangerous path, but she fought for an impressive turnaround.

After Ye Sui and Zhuang Jin’s episode, the following was the permanent guest’s own content, which had nothing to do with her. Ye Sui went backstage, ready to go home after taking off her makeup.

She was sitting in front of the mirror, with seven or eight staff members in the makeup room. At this moment, a staff member said, “Why are you kicking me?”

Another person was confused. “I didn’t.”

The man did not speak again. After a while, he added, “Why did you hit my arm?” His tone was obviously angry.

The other person was also baffled. “I didn’t do anything. You’re shamelessly blaming me!”

The commotion caused by the two was not small. Ye Sui looked back and was startled.

Next to the two staff members stood a ghost—a teenager—looking at them with a gleeful expression.

The staff looked at each other with squinted eyes, feeling that the other was lying. At this time, the young ghost hit one of them on the arm again.

The person felt the pain but clearly saw that the other person did not move. Her hair stood on end; who was touching her?

At this moment, a voice sounded in the room, “Shanghai at night, Shanghai at night…” It rang in the silent air, clear and piercing.

Ye Sui looked in the direction of the sound; the young ghost was standing beside the radio.

The staff member showed a look of horror. “Wasn’t this radio broken? Couldn’t even fix it. Why now…”

Another staff member trembled and said, “This is impossible. There can be no ghosts.”

But the broken radio was still playing, “Shanghai at night, Shanghai at night…”

The broken radio was now loaded with songs, playing the songs from the period of the Republic of China. It filled the whole room, which was even weirder.

Everyone was terrified. They guessed it was a ghost, and no one dared to speak. Ye Sui was also afraid, but seeing them speechless, she did not want the panic to spread.

Ye Sui made a decision. When the young ghost turned around and went somewhere else, she walked to the radio and tried to press the key to see if she could turn it off.

Once she pressed the button, the voice disappeared, relieving her worries. At the same time, the young ghost turned to look at Ye Sui.

Ye Sui’s body turned stiff. At this moment, a grandmother ghost rushed in like a violent storm. As soon as she saw the young ghost, she grabbed his ear.

“I’ve only been out to the show for a little while, and you’re getting naughty again; are you trying to piss me off? I’ll just tie you up at home with a foot wrap.”

Young ghost: “…”

Chapter 83: Drunk (4)

The old woman ghost stared at the young ghost. “The teacher assigned you homework. He asked you to write a composition on how to be a good ghost. Have you written it?”

Young ghost: “…No.”

“The ghost next door with the broken hand is getting first place in ghost school every year. Is it a setup? Where are your hands? Are they for decoration?”

Young ghost: “…Sort of.”

The old ghost hated him for not meeting her expectations. “The mother of the broken-hand ghost shows off in front of me every day. But I can’t even praise you with my conscience intact if I want to.”

The old ghost dragged the young ghost out of the room. “Follow me back. If you fail the test this time, I’ll skin you!”

Two ghosts, one old and one small, just left like that.

Ye Sui let out a sigh of relief, she couldn’t help but feel that since the ghosts were still studying, they would compare their grades with each other. She really had seen a lot.

After Ye Sui removed her makeup, she went home, unaware that the staff was whispering about her.

The radio sounded strange just now, but when Ye Sui touched it, the spooky music disappeared. She had helped everyone out of panic.

Everyone had a guess in their minds. Were the previous rumors about Ye Sui true? Ye Sui could exorcise ghosts?

If Ye Sui knew these people’s thoughts, she would definitely refute them silently in her heart. It was not me but my husband who could exorcise the ghosts.

It was another Chen family gathering. Patriarch Chen had specially sent a car to pick Chen Shu and Ye Sui to Chen Mansion.

This time, Patriarch Chen had invited many people from the Chen family. But even if there were more people, Chen Shu was still hidden in the corner of the crowd.

Chen Shu generally did not take the initiative to talk to other people, while Ye Sui never chatted too much with the Chen family.

Ye Sui was worried that Chen Shu would meet some people who liked to run their mouths. Hence, as soon as the party started, she immediately pulled him over and dragged him to the sofa on the second floor to sit down. “Wait here. I’ll get you something to eat.”

Chen Shu was now the person she liked. In short, he was her man.

Ye Sui did not allow others to bully Chen Shu, nor did she want to see him unhappy. After she explained things to him, she immediately went downstairs.

In the face of Ye Sui’s enthusiastic concern, Chen Shu was stunned, and then he laughed. His light laughter fell into the empty corridor and melted into the moonlight.

Before long, Ye Sui took several cups of “drinks” upstairs.

Ye Sui thought that her liquor capacity was not that good, and Chen Shu did not look like a drinker either. So, she specially chose this “drink” from a large number of wines.

Because Ye Sui did not drink very often, she did not know that the so-called wine she drank was actually the strongest alcohol.

There was nothing alcoholic about it, just like an average drink. Nevertheless, it was potent enough. Even if she only drank a few cups, she would get drunk.

Ye Sui was not clear and handed Chen Shu the “drink”. “I checked it downstairs, and it tasted quite good.”

Chen Shu believed Ye Sui and did not question her. Since she said this wine was a light refreshment, it was a light refreshment.

Ye Sui thus shared the most potent wine with Chen Shu. The place where they stayed was the second floor, which was silent as the moon. Although voices and laughter could faintly be heard from downstairs, peace reigned here.

After Ye Sui drank a cup of “beverage”, she found it even more delicious. Thinking that it was not wine anyway, it didn’t matter if she had more.

Ye Sui drank cup after cup, making Chen Shu drink with her.

It was not until several glasses of strong liquor were consumed that Ye Sui and Chen Shu discovered something wrong. He put the cup aside and looked at Ye Sui. “Are you drunk?”

Ye Sui’s became muddle-headed. She had already found the cause. She especially avoided common drinks and chose the best hard one.

It was no use for Ye Sui to regret it at this time. Her eyes fell on Chen Shu, and she asked, “Chen Shu, are you getting drunk?”

Chen Shu shook his head. “No, what about you?”

Ye Sui thought of the only scene when she was drunk before. At that time, she did many things that she did not dare to do at ordinary times. She was afraid of what she would tell Chen Shu tonight, so she gave him a precautionary shot.

“Chen Shu, I think…” Ye Sui paused for a few seconds. “I might get drunk.”
