A strange smell that lingers in the nose.

The smell of sewage mixed with the smell of various foods filled the underground passage with an indescribable stench.

Lines of mushroom people holding up plates of food and mushroom people heading out with empty plates. We walked quickly, with them by our side.

The lighting system is broken in places and missing some teeth. The areas where the light does not reach are thick with darkness, and we are not careful of our footsteps.

"It's coming!

Ary gives a small shout.

A figure appears out of the darkness.

I have seen this face somewhere before. Three of them are growing out of one body.

One from the neck.

One from the shoulder.

One from the waist.

And four more arms. They hang dangling from its belly. In his hand is a battered stick-shaped object. A magic gun, broken halfway down the barrel.

The strange appearance of the gun makes you tense up at once. Six gleaming eyeballs stare at you.

I stop abruptly, my footsteps making a rustling sound.

Ary, Roa, and Taura accelerate in the opposite direction. Each of them draws their weapons and attacks.

The three heads use their magic guns as if they were clubs to catch Ary and Loa's attacks.

Taura dodges through them and strikes with a flash.

A single three-necked arm slashes down.

─ ─ Oh, I saw you talking with Riharzam at the Alchemy Society, I think. Those three were a party of adventurers. They've turned into chimeras. We can't help them now. ...... yes, I think that's his name.

"Deden..."

A three-necked, hunched face spins around and glares at me.

The three heads leap up to avoid Taura's second attack. They attach themselves to the ceiling with arms growing from their bellies, and crawl along the ceiling toward me.

I hastily activate the scroll.

They're fast! Can you make it in time?

Sailuke, perched on my shoulder, opens his mouth wide. A sparkle of magical elements glimmers behind it.

"Sailuke! Keep it down!"

Fearing that the underground passageway will collapse, I tell Sailoruk.

The three heads fly from the ceiling and fall toward us, and a very thin dragon breath from Sailoruk's mouth pierces through them.

Several thin lines of light branch out and make holes in the three heads' limbs.

Each of the three heads lets out a groan of pain from its three mouths.

As the three heads fall limp, their momentum slashed, the spears of Ahri and Roa close in from the left and right.

The three heads are skewered and sewn into the air.

Taura's sword flashes around in front of me. She swings her sword at the three heads as if it were coiling up, cutting off all of their heads.

Not yet!

Loa's warning.

One of the heads fell. The mouth of one of the heads opens, and a black mushroom pops out from inside. Just in front of me.

Thanks to Loa's warning, I was surprisingly calm. With my left hand I grab the scroll that was still floating in the air.

I slam it with all my might against the mushroom in front of me.

With the magic spell in my left hand, it becomes a blow covered with a potion and hits the mushroom hard.

The mushroom falls to the ground. It melts and disappears.

Without letting my guard down, I quickly check my surroundings. But there is no warning from Ary and Roa.

I let out a sigh of relief, and then my eyes meet Taura's.

"Rust, I'm sorry. I was not thorough."

Apparently, he is referring to the fact that he failed to cut down the main body of the parasitic mushroom.

"No, I think we have a pretty good teamwork for a hastily formed team. The team seems to have a good balance between Ary and Roa's magical eye and Taura's attacking ability.

"I'm not a vanguard when the attack is going through Rust, the rear guard."

"Hmm."

I am basically a researcher, so I don't really know much about these things.

What do you think? He sends a questioning look to Ary and Roa.

"Taura is the Kareen type. Loa is the best one to follow Rust. I was in the way earlier."

A point of view from Roa, who is relentless. Even Ary is not interrupting this time.

"Well then, get out of my way ......"

Taura looks disappointed at Loa's point of view. She can't even argue with him because she missed the last mushroom.

"Taura, don't worry about what's behind you, just concentrate on the attack. That's what Taura is good at. Behind you, trust Roa and your sister.

Roa continues with a blank expression on his face.

"Okay. I will."

Taura responds honestly. Perhaps this candor is one of Taura's strengths, I think as I watch their exchange.

During this exchange, the mushroom people with their plates up in the air were just carrying their food as usual. It was as if the fight had never happened.

I felt a slight chill in the air, but decided to hurry on.

After a silent exchange of glances between Ary and Taura, we started to move forward again, with Taura in the lead.
