Beryl climbed into the bed next to Tyron and gave him a concerned look. "Uncle, what's wrong with you? Are you sick?"

Tyron didn't have the heart to look into her innocent eyes and tell her the truth, so he nodded his head and answered, "Yes, I'm very ill so I need you to be obedient, okay?"

Beryl bobbed her head up and down. "Okay, I will be obedient."

She leaned in closer and whispered into his ear, "Grandma was acting so strange and scary just now!"

Tyron understood what she had meant so he attempted to play down her concerns. "Your grandma is also quite ill so please try to forgive her, okay? It's only because she misses your Mommy very much..."

'I miss her too...' he added in his mind.

Beryl nodded her head and said nothing more, even though she did not fully understand what Tyron meant.

In the evening, at the dinner table, Beryl sat far from Carol, without a conscious thought and not out of intention. However, Carol assumed it was because of the way she acted earlier.

"Beryl, did I frighten you today? If I did, I would like to offer you my sincerest apologies, my darling. Would you be kind enough to forgive me?" Carol smiled dotingly at the little girl.

Unfortunately, her actions had made a deep impression on Beryl and regardless of what she said, Beryl had no intention of trusting her words. As a result, Beryl's lack of response spoke louder than words.

Alfred could not help but stop Carol. "Don't embarrass Beryl and yourself anymore, please."

Dispirited, Carol lowered her head and pressed her lips, saying nothing more.

...

Meanwhile, the effects of constant worrying drove Emily and Jacob on the verge of a mental breakdown. Finally, just moments before Emily broke down, they received a phone call from Carol.

Carol's voice carried with it an ominous feeling of dread. "Emily, Beryl is here with me. So please come back if you want to see her! We miss you very much, honey!"

"Beryl is with you? How?" Emily could not contain her anger anymore as she blasted Carol on the phone, "How dare you take my daughter from me? I swear, if anything bad happens to her!"

"Emily, what are you talking about? I would never hurt Beryl. I just want you to come back home. Why is that so difficult for you to understand?" asked Carol.

"Okay! I'll come back! I am coming back right now!" Emily quickly answered.

Suddenly, Carol's tone changed. "You are lying to me, aren't yo

at this moment.

"No!" Carol's face portrayed a wild-eyed desperation. "Tell me why?"

Emily sighed in exasperation. "Mom, he is my husband. He is the father of Beryl and Bowen! How could you ask me to kill him?"

"Tyron can be your husband and the children's father! That man you call a husband is nothing but a worthless degenerate!" Carol had completely lost her mind by now. "Now! Make your choice! Who do you want to save, Beryl or him?"

How could Emily choose between two of the most important people in her life?

"Don't waste your time arguing with her!" Jacob pulled Emily behind him and sneered, "She is not the person you think she is anymore. She's completely lost her mind!"

"Jacob, you need to be careful about what you say to me!" Carol snapped at Jacob. The thought of how badly Jacob had hurt Tyron only added more fuel to the fiery rage that was burning inside her.

Ever since the death of Sean, Carol always looked at Tyron as her own son. As a consequence, Carol's hatred for Jacob stemmed out of her love for Tyron.

Jacob smiled contemptuously and took out a box from his suitcase. "How about I make you a deal? I am going to show you something and then you can tell me whether it is worth my daughter's life or not, okay?"

Carol squinted her eyes to get a closer look on the box and suddenly she lapsed into a wide-eyed grimace of sheer white-knuckled terror. "Jacob! You bastard! How dare you! How dare you do that!"

What Jacob was holding in his hand was the urn for Sean and Cloris's ashes. The lily on the urn was carved by Carol so she could tell what it was at first sight.
