"Even if it's supposed to be a less conspicuous carriage, you could still furnish it inside. You should add some cushions or something." She complained as she rubbed her sore legs and butt.
"I didn't think it would be this bad either." Rong Jian agreed as he rubbed his behind, though not as obvious as Shen Tianyu. "It's because I rarely use it, I guess so I didn't see the need to furnish it on the inside much as that would just be a waste of money."
"Ah. Since you rarely use it then nevermind. We'll just use it less. It's not worth furnishing it and then leaving it to collect dust." She amended her earlier suggestion.
They properly stood up and walked up to the guards in front of the gates, with Shen Tianyu in front. When they stopped her, as it was still the middle fo the day and the establishment was not officially open, she took out her plaque. This was the plaque given to her when they left Jing City and it spoke of her status by itself. The guards examined it in disbelief, and after finding that it was indeed real, they finally let them in. Shen Tianyu took back her plaque and guided Rong Jian to the Manager's Office. During the whole exchange, there was a pair of eyes watching them from the shadows of one of the dark alleys, and even as the gates closed, the pair of eyes didn't look away. Only after staring for a while longer did the person leave. Since the person had shown no ill intenet and left just like that, the guards acted as if they didn't notice either.
Despite it not being the official open time yet, there were plenty of servants walking around the main building, cleaning the rooms and checking inventories. They all gave second glances to the pair behind their backs but didn't show a hostile attitude. There has never been a breakthrough of the guards in all the years the establishment has been built and if they were not let in, they wouldn't strut around so openly anyways. Besides, the mask of the fourth Wangye was well-known so they didn't doubt they were important guests. The royal family probably had some business with the Manager again. It wasn't really a rare occurence around here since they were the information trading center of any country they were stationed in.
Shen Tianyu was the oen to knock on the door of the Manager's Office. But she didn't wait for an answer before pushing open the doors and entering. The Manager inside had lifted his head and was about to scold this mannerless person but stopped before he could even finish the first word.
"Yo Mengxiao, too surprised to see me that you became speechless? I did remember sending a pigeon here to inform you guys I was coming though. Did you not get it?" She smiled wryly as she strode to a couch and sat down. Rong Jian followed her and sat down on the chair next to her couch.
The Manager coughed into his fist to hide his embarassment and got up from his desk. "We did get the pigeon and we were informed you had arrived but you didn't come visit so I didn't expect you to visit this early." He went to a side kitchen and began to make tea. When he was done, he brought a tray with a teaot and three cups over, placing them down on the low table, he sat down on a couch opposite her.
"Really? I think this is already pretty late, it's been a while since I arrived after all." Shen Tianyu questioed as she watched him pour tea in the three cups. He placed two in front of them, one in front of her and the other for Rong Jian, before pouring the last cup for himself. "By the way, this is Rong Jian. I'm sure you've heard by now, but he's my fiancee and we're about to get married." She hugged Rong Jian's arm ans smiled up at him.
"Nicce to meet you, Manager Yanmen." Rong Jian nodded with a small smile on his lips, and patting Shen Tianyu's head with one hand.
"Zhu Wangye, it is my honor to meet you also." Yanmen Mengxiao bent his back a little in indication of a bow.
Shen Tianyu untangled herself from Rong Jian and picked up her cup of tea. "I think coming to visit at this time is alright."
"Well, you're eccentric like that, as I'm sure everyone knows. sometimes, you don't visit us at all and other time you visit us when you're done with your task. You coud really rely on us more you know? We, as an establishment and our positions right now, would not exist if not for you, after all." He lamented as he sipped his tea.
"There's no need to drag you guys into it so there's no need to disrupt the business. It's not good for business if you guys are always having some kind of difficulties." Shen Tianyu responded as she sipped her tea. "Anyways, I'm not here to talk about that today. I bought a ton of presents for the people working here so hand them out as you see fit." She placed her teacup down and untied her Cosmos Pouch from her belt loop. "Do you have another Cosmos Bag so I can poutr everythign in?"
"Yes, we do. Let me go get it." Yanmen Mengxiao got up from his seat and returned to his desk. After rummaging through one of the drawers, he pulls out a small cloth bag with golden embroidery, another Cosmos Bag. Putting the mouth of her Cosmos Pouch inside the Cosmos Bag, Shen Tianyu flipped the whole pouch and unlocked the space, pouring all the jewelry, clothand makeup into the other Bag. When there wasn't anything in her Pouch anymore, she took it out of the Bag and tied it around her belt again. Yanmen Mengxiao sealed the Cosmos Bag and put it next to him.
"By the way, where's Linghao?" Shen Tianyu asked as she shifted back on the couch until her back was against the back of it.
"He was out running on an errand, he should be back soon..." Yanmen Mengxiao trailed off as they heard hasty footsteps outside the door. As soon as he stopped talking, the door was flung open by someone who quickly entered and closed the door behind him. "Linghao, what's the matter?" Yanmen Mengxiao asked the man as he turned around, a frown in between his brows.
"I-I heard Miss was coming to visit so I... rushed back." Linghao managed to say as he tried to catch his breath. Yanmen Mengxiao beckoned to Linghao to sit by him and gave him his teacup. Linghao threw his head back as he downed the barely touched cup of tea and Yanmen Mengxiao went to the side kitchen to get another.
"Vice-Manager Wu." Rong Jian greeted when he saw the other had caught his breath.
"Oh? The Zhu Wangye is here too. I apologize for my unseemly state." Wu Linghao bowed to the other in greeting. "And Miss, long time no see." He then bowed to Shen Tianyu in greeting, who waved it off.
Yanmen Mengxiao returned with another cup and refilled Wu Linghao's cup before pouring himself another cup of tea. "You visit today isn't just about giving gifts to the workings and asking us how we were doing right? You always scorned such pointless things."
"How rude. I care about my subordinates enough to ask about their wellbeing. I'm not some tyrant." Shen Tianyu retorted. "And besides, I was hanging out with Sung Ming and Mu Shenchou when I was there."
"That's only because you were bored, right?" Yanmen Mengxiao shot back.
"I did some work too..." Shen Tianyu pouted.
"Most of the problems are taken care of by Sung Ming, you think we're not aware of that?"
"Guh... Anyways! I came here to see how business is going and how our profts are doing!" shen Tianyu tried to change the subject.
"Oh. Doing some... work things for once." Yanmen Mengxiao almost bit his tongue from saying "owner-like things" since there was a third-party here. From what they've heard and his attitude, he's nearing her true identity but has yet to fully grasp the tru importance Shen Tianyu has to Lavender Palace. Since she hasn't told him outright, he wasn't about to spill the beans.
"That's right. It's rare for Miss to want to do some work. What came over you? Were you so bored, you just decided to work for once?" Wu Linghao asked a little sarcastically.
"Shut it, just give me the report." Shen Tianyu took her teacup and drank some of the tea.
Rong Jian just watched their conversation from the side. He was here to provide her with transportation and support. It was already a great act fo trust that she's letting him listen to their report on their profits, he wasn't going to intrude himself on their conversation.
