"You mean like a discount?" He felt like he saw his wifey's eyes transform into money signs but he figured he ws just seeing things.

"Uh... I meant better service and maybe being shown items that other customers might not have permission to see?" Rong Jian scratched his cheek as his eyes roamed the outside walls of his residence.

"We're just going to buy some gloves and handwarmers, what use is that?" Shen Tianyu wrinkled her nose when Rong Jian wasn't looking but still let out a little smile. 'Besides, don't you already have the privilege to see whatever you want regardless since you're a Wangye?'

"There are some special handwarmers that use fire stones or gloves made of special threads. Those usually aren't put in the shop but instead in the back somewhere, where only the rich and wealthy with a certain level of status can access it." Rong Jian's eyes fell back on his wofey, watching her reaction.

"Ah, I see. That's certainly a good business model for a hierarchical society like this one." At her first reply, three black lines appeared on Rong Jian's forhead. Though he indeed wanted to impress her, this wasn't what he wanted her to be impressed about. Shen Tianyu stopped nodding when she saw her companions expression and steeled her expression, clearng her throat. "I mean, it's certainly impressive that one could sell handwarmers mad eof fire stones, it's certainly not something you see everyday. As expected of a Wangye of the Rikui kingdom."

Fire stones were gems made from the cores of demonic beasts with a fire nature. Unlike Night Pearls, they do not release any light but they do release heat. Depending on the demonic beast, however, the temperature of the stone varies. Higher level demonic beasts have hotter cores and lower level demonic beasts have colder cores. Phoenixes have the hottest cores of all, able to melt anything and everything within 100 li. That was also why not many humans, if any, darmed to mess with or try to tame a Phoenix. If they decided that the situation was a dead end, they could detonate their core and explode the area, causing damage wider then their cores were initially capable of. Usually demonic beast cores couldn't be used as is, such is the case with fire stones. Because there are varying degrees of heat that may cause harm tot he user, as cultivation levels of humans are varied just like demonic beasts, they all need to be refined first before they can even be sold on the market as raw materials. For luxury goods like handwarmers, inscription masters are hired to inscribe protective talismans either directly on the core, on the object that is to hold the core or both. Hence those kinds of luxury goods are so rarely heard of, much less seen. Inscription Masters, who make arrays and talismans, are a rare talent on par with doctors like Luo Shie's master who are proficient in both pill making and medicine.

Rong Jian let out a proud smile as his eyes turned back to face the road ahead of them. Hey stepped out of the confines of the residence and set foot on the main street. Shen Tianyu walked behind Rong Jian as the latter led them to Qiao Wangye's General Store. The name sounded a bit ironic since it was the third brother that was a general and not the second but apparently no one dared say anything so it stayed that way.

Arriving at their supposed destination, since Rong Jian stopped on the road. They could see a large crowd blocking the entrance to one shop on the street. Though it was disturbing the neighboring businesses and blocking their own customers from coming, they didn't dare utter any complaints and just watched on from their shop. Some even took out chairs from inside their shops to watch, as if this was an entertaining show. The people in the crowd were trying to press forward to buy what they wanted but didn't dare to break out into a full-on push and pull situation due to the guards that were keeping watch on them. The majority of the guards wore insignia of the military either on their uniform or carved onto the hilt of their weapons. There were some hired mercenaries with worse equipment and ragtag clothes but their sharp eyes betrayed their experience and sharpness.

"How do you suggest we get in?" Shen Tianyu folded her arms and leaned on Rong Jian, leisurely watching the show with the other people.

"The guards will let me inside, of course." Rong Jian walked up to a nearby military guard with Shen Tianyu languidly following behind.

'So, you're jumping the line. Not that anyone would dare to complain really. There is some benefit of having an imperial social hierarchy.' Shen Tianyu thought absentmindedly.

The guard immediately recognized Rong Jian's trademark mask and bowed to the two of them, assuming the woman was Zhu Wangye's person since they were following closer than other people. However, he still needed to make sure of his identity in case someone was impersonating the Wangye so the guard asked for Rong Jian's identification plaque, which he whipped out without any fuss. The guard examined it to make sure it was genuine and handed it back.
