Unlike many other army men of relevant positions, he had no connections with the upper echelons of the military prior to his conscription.

The General had married a miss from a reputable family and they had a daughter and son together. The daughter was older and was named the Miss of the Right General's Manor, whilst the younger son was the Young Master.

"The Miss of the Right-winged General's Manor? Is she one of Ah-Jian's pursuers?" Shen Tianyu had an inkling of who it might be but she wasn't too sure.

The paid assassin kept shaking her head and insisting that she didn't know so Shen Tianyu left it alone. She got up from the bed and left the cell, waiting at the side as th eCaptain of the Guard locked the cell again, grabbing her torch that she had inserted into the wall inside the cell when she came in and holding the one the Captain of the Guard had as he secured the prisoner. When they left the storage shed that covered the prison, Shen Tianyu excused the Captain of the Guards who nodded to her and left. She then walked into Rong Jian's study room, almost certain he was awake and working by now. The guards stationed at his doors let her through, recognizing her as their Wangfei and, lo and behold, Rong Jian was sitting behind his desk surrounded by stacks of papers. The personal attendant that was standing beside the desk bowed to her upon her entering and quietly shuffled to the edge of the room.

"Tian'er? What's wrong? Didn't you go to see the captured assassin?" Rong Jian looked up from the document he was reading and tilted his gold-masked head to the side.

"Mhm. She said it was the Miss of the Right-winged General's Manor that paid her." Shen Tianyu sat down at the side, where a set of chairs and tableware was placed for when guests gathered there. She crossed her legs and looked at her nails that didn't have any coloring on them as she continued. "Wangye ah, Wangye, how can you attract so many butterflies when your face is covered all the time? Just hearing about them makes me tired, much less wanting to contend with them all. You know my talent lays in physical combat and not palace intrigues."

"But my eyes only see Tian'er. Those women are mostly after me because of my position anyways. If I wasn't a Wangye, they'd spread rumors that I was ugly underneath the mask and no one would want to chase after me. Tiahn'er is the only one that's different and the only one for me." Rong Jian got up from his seat, put down his document and went over to Shen Tianyu, squatting down with his head laying on her lap and looking up at her with pitiful eyes.

"Then... I'll take care of her for Wifey, okay?" Rong Jian offered, staring straight back at her with the same pitiful look.

"No need. I can at least take care of her myself but you need to do some work so those butterflies stop coming after you." She used the index finger of her other hand to tap on Rong Jian's nose.

"Okay! I'll announce at the engagement ceremony that I'll only marry Tian'er!"

"You're too naive. It's only an engagement ceremony and you're announcing something like that? It'll just get the officials more anxious to marry their daughters to you before you officially close the deal." She rolled her eyes as her experiences from the bureaucratic circle and imperial dramas came up in her mind's eye. Whether it was in the ancient dramas on tv or the bureaucratic circles in the 21st century, the results of announcing things like that always stayed the same. Engagement merely symbolizes a promise to marry and the couple hadn't officially sealed the deal yet so plenty of people think they have time to insert themselves into the relationship or disrupt it before that happens.

Rong Jian furrowed his brows in deep thought as to how to shoo away all the butterflies as his wifey wanted. Seeing his face, Shen Tianyu sighed.

"Here, I'll take on the thing with the Right-winged General's Manor's Miss and the thing with the uh... former Assistant Head Maid from before. It's probably inconvenient for you to place your hand son a woman, criminal or not, anyways. You can focus on your work and thinking up a strategy." Shen Tianyu started playing with the hair on Rong Jian's forehead, not being able to stay still.

"No, I'll keep on the case with that traitor. But it's fine to delay it since Wifey's troubles take precedent. We need some time to gather things together for that anyways." Rong Jian rejected the idea of handing that certain case over to his wifey.

Shen Tianyu raised her brow but didn't question his resilience on the matter. "Then at least let me help out? She did target me after all, I believe I have a right to participate, no?"

Rong Jian fell quite as he thought about the compromise his wifey had brought up. She definitely had a right to participate, being the victim, but the case was dangerous and she had explicitly stated she was no good at palace intrigues, or rather, doesn't want to get embroiled in them too much.
