"Heheh~ Senior Brother Liushan should find a partner too~" Shen Tianyu teased.
"Who knows, maybe he already has someone." Bai Yaoxuan joined in too, lightly teasong people was always fun.
Ningwu Liushan coughed and looked away, but not before the two girls noticed the blush on his cheeks.
The exhibition for the Beast-Taming department was actually not far from the Practice Building 5 the Talismans and Array department used. In font of Practice Building 3, there was a slightly bigger crowd compared to the one they were waiting in previously. Due to superstition, Practice Building 4 does not exist. The word four and death sound too similar and the founders were worried that it would bring bad luck. The supsequent Headmasters and Elders didn't bother with making one either.
"What will the Beast-Taming Department be doing, do you guys know?" Bai Yaoxuan asked the others in their tour group.
"Nope." Shen Tianyu held her breath in her cheeks for a moment before letting it out.
"The department elders usually keep their exhibits a closely guarded secret in case of a security breach so only the selected few chosen to participate and the Elders themselves know the contents of their own department's exhibit." Ningwu Liushan explained.
"Or, more likely, they're afraid another department might try to copy their idea so they don't want others to know." Shen Tianyu provided.
Ningwu Liushan just let out a laugh, not agreeing nor disagreeing.
"Am I right, Ah-Jian?" Shen Tianyu turned to her to-be fiancee and latched on to his arm.
"Mn. That was probably the primary impetus and the security breach was just a coverup excuse. After all, in all these years, there has never been a security breach during the Opening Day. Every year, there are undercover security guards all over the place. Though I question the intelligence of the person that decides to attack a School for cultivators when all the students, old and new, are gathered together along with the instructors and elders." Rong Jian immediately replied, his eyes softening as he gazed at the girl looping her arms around his.
A defeaning roar almost scared Bai Yaoxuan out of her skin. The others merely flinched at the loud assault to their heightened hearing ability.
A student wearing their uniform walked out a demonic beast shortly after. The Celestial Frost Lion's mane was frozen solid, to the point little icicles were hanging off it. It's thick, golden fur had a bluish tint to it and it's eyes were ghostly white without a pupil. The temperature of the building dropped by several tens of degrees the moment the Lion stepped into full view.
Bai Yaoxuan hugged herself, shivering, as she felt the full brunt of the drop in temperature. Shen Tianyu grabbed the other's shoulder and channeled her spiritual energy within her and circulated it to warm her up, a displeased frown on her face.
The student had the Celestial Frost Lion lay down and hold it's paw out. In front of the audience, the Celestial Frost Lion "shook hands" with it's human partner. There were gasps of awe from the audience, seeing that there was "Celestial" in the demonic beast's name, it was bound to be more arrogant than other demonic beasts. For such a prideful creature to do something so lowly was already quite a feat. After performing a few more circus tricks, the pair of student and it's Celestial Frost Lion partner left the stage.
The moment the demonic beast left, the temperaure of the building regained it's previous warmth. Shen Tianyu stopped channeling her spiritual energy into Bai Yaoxuan but kept her hand on the other's shoulder just in case the next pair would also cause a change in their environment.
The next couple was, again a female student, and a female Netherworld Siren. The Netherworld Siren was, as the name suggested, a Siren. Though, they were not actually from the netherworld but just spots in the bodies of water housing heavy demonic energy. What made them different from normal Sirens, apart form their songs being more powerful, was their ability to create illusions without needing any talismans or arrays. Some specualte they use their songs to channel their power, similar to how human cultivators need to use arrays but no one has been able to decipher their song language so it'll take a long while before that theory is backed with hard evidence. In addition to that ability, their skin is also blue, similar to the bodies of water they spend all day beside. This couple displayed their talent by having the Netherworld Siren sing one of her songs without channeling demonic energy into it. In other words, it was just a demonic beast in the shape of a woman with blue skin singing. Naturally, a Siren's singing ability would never lose to a human's so the audience applauded for them.
The third pair was a male student and a Firebird. A Firebird was only loosely related to the phoenixes in that they were birds that could fly and spew fire. Other than that, they did not have the shapeshifting and rebirth ability that a true phoenix of the noble clan possessed. It was basically a knoc-off and easier to tame phoenix. A Firebird's body, though, was always covered in flames to the point no one knew what their feathers even looked like. Unlike the Celestial Frost Lion from before, this Firebird had better control on it's ability to change it's environment and the building didn't heat up into a lava cesspool. If they wanted to, and if they were powerful enough, a Firebird could burn it's foe half to death before the fight even started.
