The dress had long been prepared, as it was a traditional ceremony the clothes would never deviate much so that was one less worry, in a way.

Shen Tianyu answered her with hums as she couldn't move her face muscles much while the royal maids made her face up. When it came time to put on the dress, the Empress was reminded kindly by her head maid and reluctantly left to sit on the other side of the screen door.

There was the white cotton zhongyi followed by a second light pink layer. The third layer was a yellow shanqun[1] which extended to her feet. The fourth was a red robe with golden embroidery on it of a small bird, probably a baby phoenix, with eight feathered tails to signify her future status as a direct royal family member.

Seven would be below her status but with Rong Jian's adopted status, Shen Tianyu had requested seven tails instead. Despite her intentions, the Empress had gotten angry and the Emperor had a dark look on his face for days afterwards. It wasn't that they didn't understand her reasons but they had long saw Rong Jian as their own child and, no matter what, they will have the people treat him as such and that includes his future wife. They were about to go on a "cleansing spree" to weed out any ministers or nobility that made him so careful until Rong Jian and Shen Tianyu calmed them down with their joint efforts.

The fifth layer was a purple zhaoshan[2] with black, red and gold adorning it's surface. The servants then pulled her out from behind the screen and started doing her hair. Golden combs, hairpins and clips were used to tie her hair up in a knotted roll[3] hairstyle, securing big strands of hair with ribbons. Golden hairpins were inserted in her hair to further secure their place and to add some flair. Small jade pieces, rubies and aquamarines protected by gold made her hair shine in the dwindling candlelight. A few buyaos were inserted on the outer edges of her hairdo, one at the back and one on each side of her head. The one at the back only held a jade purple iris, which signifies royalty with tassels of the same color. The one inserted in her right had a strand of red buttercups, again made from jade, to display her charm, attraction, and radiance. The one on her left had a pink aster the size of half her palm dangling from the buyao hairpin to signify love, and sensitivity.

The doors to the side room closed behind her and she took a seat in the simply furnished but still luxurious bench. Since this was supposed to be a hall for ceremonies, including religious, they couldn't decorate it too over-the-top or it would seem like the royal family was obsessed with wealth, which would not be a good look in front of the gods. However, just throwing cheap things in all the side rooms would make them look stingy. So all the simple furniture were made of the best wood and the paintings hung were all prized works of art that could rival uncommon cultivation goods in value. The seat on the bench was a pillow made of Shu embroidery and stuffed with cotton.

Even when she was in downtime, she still had to sit up straight with the correct posture as there were two maids that served the Empress watching her every move. She couldn't even let out a slightly stronger exhale, as that would be seen as inauspicious or rude.

'Can we hurry up and get this over with? I'm already tired and the ceremony hasn't even started yet.' Shen Tianyu cried inside her head but her face didn't let any emotion leak.

She could hear the chatter outside perfectly fine as a Meridians Level cultivator about to break through to Gold Core level. However, she ignored the gossip until it was all nothing but a buzzing sound. She didn't need to eavesdrop on them to know most of them were probably shit talking her in eloquent language. She slowly closed her eyes but kept her posture straight, making her look as if she was meditating and then entered her space with her soul. Leaving her body unprotected like this was usually a bad idea, but this was the Imperial Palace and two of the Empress's trusted maids were in the room with her. She had already seen that their cultivation levels were not much lower than hers. Even if they disliked her, they would still protect her from danger, in case anything went wrong with the ceremony and they were to be punished.

Walking through the black void, she entered the Wind Shrine to check her inventory.
