All that was conveyed and understood in the short exchange of an instant.

Shen Tianyu boarded the carriage after Rong Jian, a bit different from always but he still held his hand out to pull her in. The ride back to the Wangfu was silent but Shen Tianyu didn't seem to mind as she didn't make any further moves to get Rong Jian to talk. They got off in front of the gates of the Wangfu and went in together. Shen Tianyu followed her fiancee into his own room, behind his study. It was the first time she saw a man's room, and though the setup was the same as hers but it still felt special somehow.

It wasn't that she hadn't been inside a man's room before, she had male friends within her close circle and they would frequently hang out in each other's apartments when they didn't want to go out. Perhaps it's just that she had never gotten this far with a man before. Even with that one man she had dated, in the end, she never developed any romantic feelings for him at all. Rong Jian could be said the first man to take her fancy in her two lifetimes.

"What are you doing in my room?" Rong Jian asked when he noticed she had stepped over the threshold and sat down at his table.

"Ah! You finally decided to speak to me!" Shen Tianyu opted to clap her hands in joy instead.

"I just asked what you're doing here." He still went towards the door with the intention of closing it.

"Well, you weren't speaking to me at the banquet~ Hey, what are you sulking about? Are you jealous that I went around to greet other people? Hey~ Talk to me, otherwise, I'll really get angry~" Shen Tianyu started to pout, her cheeks resting on her hand.

"Hmph. Weren't you very close with Young Master Ningwu and Bai? Why don't you hang out with them?" He crossed his arms around his chest as he looked at her form the door.

"Ah, so you were sulking that I didn't come up to you during the banquet, after all? And I though you were angry I caused a scene at the Hall." She smiled at him teasingly.

Rong Jian looked like he suddenly remembered something. "You actually went so far for that girl."

Poor Minister Bai, the scene with him and the mild bullying of his wife was so easily forgotten like this in Rong Jian's mind. "Well, she's my sister, how could I not help her disperse her anger?"

Her Bai Yaoxuan had lived in a happy and healthy family with both of her biological parents. Though they had some money, they were not haughty and were humble and kind when they could be. They also had good personalities, though Bai Yaoxuan did not ever lack in anything, they were still able to raise her to be a cheerful and optimistic girl, albeit a little naive. Though all the credit can't be given to the parents but if the parents were not good people, even good seeds would turn bad.

Shen Tianyu, on the other hand, had experienced the full impact of what it was like to be abandoned by one parent. The bastard played with her mother's feelings and left her as soon as she told him she was with her child, not even showing his face in all her years of growing up. An unmarried woman with a child, how much of an impact that put on her mother, was obvious to tell. Even in the most liberal minds, it was still a negative thing. Though her experience was different than the original Bai Yaoxuan's, she could still understand a bit more than her sister. When she was little, she had also looked at other families and longed for a complete one, with a father and a loving mother willing to accompany her out. She had wanted for the love, company, and security of a father.

However, perhaps of her circumstance, Shen Tianyu, or rather Xuan Lingwen, had matured very quickly. Before she even entered elementary school, she had given up on the idea. She had never met any father and her mother was too busy working to have been with her father, she deemed that mother and child were unwanted. Later on, she found out the circumstances of her birth through the mouths of others and she was livid. Not at the other children that mocked her for it, but at the man that had made her mother suffer so. She was glad she had never met that man and she swore if that man ever appeared in front of her, she would personally torture him until he didn't want to live anymore. Later on, when she founded her company, she used her minuscule resources to find a photo of that man. Her mother never mentioned him, she had rummaged their apartment and didn't find a single picture, and she didn't want to reopen her mother's wounds by asking about him. Besides, pictures were clearer than words. When she finally obtained a photo, she seared the man's face into her brain to memorize him and then took out some of her anger by tearing the photo to pieces and setting it on fire.
