The growl sounded before the head of fur appeared in her vision. It was a Black Lightning Leopard, it's golden iris already locked on to the branch Shen Tianyu was taking shelter behind. Sparks of lightning shot through it's body of black fur at uneven intervals but the leaves and underbrush didn't catch on fire from it. The Black Lightning Leopard went up to Shen Tianyu's chest and it's slightly open maw could easily bite off someone's arm.
'Well f*ck. I didn't think they'd make the array so realistic to the point that demonic beasts can smell me. Looks like I'm going to be running a marathon for the next shichen[1] or so.' Shen Tianyu tensed up, ready to jump away again. The reason why Shen Tianyu would rather run around than fight a bunch of demonic beasts like she did with the Demon Bat was partly because of stamina issues. Even if she was a Nascent Soul Level martial artist, there was a limit to her stamina, it would be difficult to fight for one whole shichen or more continuously and without rest no need to say more when she just barely broke through to the Gold Core level. In addition, fighting with a demonic beast causes a ruckus. The reason no other demonic beast interfered in her fight with the Demon Bat was because they didn't want to attract the Demon Bat's attention. However, if it was any other demonic beast, they would have rushed in to try to kill the cultivator. The longer the fight went, the more demonic beasts would gather around. While she could use the chaos to have them hurt each other, but she would still need to fight off an almost endless wave of demonic beasts. Therefore, it was more wise to keep running before a fight starts since the point of this test was not about how many demonic beasts she could kill.
"Welp, I'm not going to use up my spiritual energy to try to fight with you so bye~" Shen Tianyu was already discovered by it so there was no need to try to be subtle any longer. She immediately jumped onto a higher branch before running away using the same method she came here with.
The Black Lightning Leopard howled at her and jumped down from the tree before chasing her on it's four legs.
"That's no use unless you can reach me up here, you know?" Shen Tianyu told it as she parkour through the green forest. A lightning strike from the Black Lightning Leopard that scorched the branch she was just on answered her. "Spoke too soon huh?" She shivered as she climbed higher on the tree.
The Black Lightning Leopard tried to follow her but she just jumped away. During the time the Black Lightning Leopard got off the tree and arrived under her new tree, she climbed onto a higher branch. Like this, Shen Tianyu got closer and closer to the canopy of the green nature palace while the Black Lightning Leopard started loosing sight of her due to the all the leaves and wood between the two. Eventually the Black Lightning Leopard let out what seemed to be a grunt before it turned away and strode back to where it came from.
"Phew, two gone now..." She muttered to herself as she sat down cross-legged on the branch under her that was the size of a small table. Her current position was around the middle between the dead floor and top layer of the green natural palace.
She continued dodging demonic beasts for an amount of time unknown to her, traveling higher or lower on the trees that seemed to touch the sky, depending on what demonic beast had found her. However, she was always careful to leave a few layers between her and the canopy. Just because she hasn't been attacked form up there didn't mean there weren't any demonic beasts there. They were probably just resting there and didn't bother with whatever was happening below themselves. She didn't want to take the chance to find out. This forest obviously had a hierarchy and the level the demonic beasts resided in represented their power, including the ones that could fly. The demonic beasts tanning themselves on the canopies of the trees were most likely on a level she couldn't handle, at least by herself. She still had to go to her classes in the afternoon so she'd rather not look like a beggar that had somehow stumbled into the classroom.
