Thankfully, Shen Tianyu managed to make a few acquaintances in her Introductory Course of Herbal Recognition so she didn't have to sleep in class.

She didn't expect she would be in the influential class for her core curriculum. Lun Aoman and Lun Chang, the official children of a big merchant in Qianlu was there. Perhaps because she was a woman, it was easier for her to befriend Lun Chang unlike the other boys that suffered the venomous glare of the girl's older brother. Zheng Xiu was also there but Shen Tianyu tried to stay away from her as much as she could. The word "trouble" was written all over her face. She might be determined to marry a prince of Rikui, but Rong Jian wasn't really up to her standards as an adopted son and someone who gave up the rights to the throne, so she didn't come bother Zhu Wangfei thankfully. The other engaged couple hailing from Mingya, Gongzhu[1] Ming Yunyue and her fuma[2] Nian Yingge were also in all three of her core classes. The two were good people but Shen Tianyu was inherently a businesswoman so she had more to talk about with the Lun siblings than the couple from Mingya.

She also met up with Song Yanqi and the inventor of the interesting little devices sold at their stall, who happened to be her younger adopted brother. He was an upbeat fellow that liked to flirt and joke around. The boy had been reprimanded by Song Yanqi's biological younger brother, Song Chengyin. However, Wei Xianying seemed adamant about not changing his ways. Though, no matter what, he was not foolish enough to actually try flirting with a Wangye's fiancee.

A month passed with Shen Tianyu lazing around under the guise of adjusting and studying for the Poison Stage's exam in one month's time. She had already declared her major in the Beast-Taming Department, since that was one of the Cultivation Division departments and the only one she was really interested in. Her swordplay surpassed that of her peers and she only needed to learn basic Fist techniques for emergency self-defense. As for the Talisman and Array Department, she was never a good artist in the first place so it would just be memorizing general shapes. As long as she can recognize talismans and arrays and know how to break them was enough for her, really. And since she signed up late, her classes for the department will be arranged next semester.

The professor for Introductory Course of Herbal Recognition didn't seem to mind her erratic attendance since the School ran on a laissez-faire policy. As long as you pass the Midterms, Finals, and a few other important quizzes, to prove your knowledge, the attendance rate doesn't really matter. The degree of leniency varies from professor to teacher but the professors for the core curriculum classes for the more influential students are usually more lenient since they know some to most of the things they will teach will already be known by their students. Some people talked about Shen Tianyu being arrogant behind her back for her behavior, as she obviously wasn't someone from a noble family, but those whispers went in her left ear and out her other ear[3].

"The one-month assessment will be near, are you sure it's okay to try to sign up for the Poison Stage too?" Bai Yaoxuan asked Shen Tianyu one night as the three of them were enjoying their dinner in the Dinning Hall.

"Hm? Yeah. The Cultivation Division assessments go first before the Medical Division to allow more time for the latter's students to memorize and practice. Though, it's more like last minute cramming than anything." Shen Tianyu replied after swallowing her food.

"Ah, is that so? Did they tell you what you would be doing for the Beast-Taming Department's assessment? You don't have a single class, though."

"Hm... I'm not sure if they'd tell ahead of time. But it shouldn't be a problem. I have some basics down and I already have a spiritual beast anyways so I'm kind of set. Well, it's only an assessment to filter out the crowd so it probably won't be too bad?"

"Isn't it because it's used to filter out the crowd that it'll be difficult?" Rong Jian jumped in. He didn't have to worry since he's an old student now, but Shen Tianyu would be participating.

"Oh, you might be right." Shen Tianyu thought mused over his words and thought that was more probable.

"Is it really okay for you to be so relaxed?" Bai Yaoxuan worried.

"It'll be fine. If it doesn't work out, I'll be joining the Poison Stage department." Shen Tianyu shrugged lazily. "That's one of the areas I'm most confident in."

Bai Yaoxuan looked over at Rong Jian who was eating silently and sighed. She may be Shen Tianyu's sworn sister from her past life but she hasn't completely adjusted to the various systems in this world yet. Besides, the young man had spent more time and probably knew more about Shen Tianyu current capabilities than her. Since he's not saying anything, she'll just trust their judgement on this matter.

Well, it wasn't as if Shen Tianyu hadn't prepared a little bit. She had asked a few professors belonging to the Beast-Taming Department on that topic and read some freely accessible articles on it. The articles themselves, unfortunately, weren't of much help since half those papers was just trying to convince the reader their method was the best or something. And the professors had limited time as they had to teach and do research, she wasn't even a student in any of their classes so it's understandable she wouldn't be a priority.

[1] 1st-ranked princess. There are, like, at least 8 ranks of princesses in the Chinese imperial family alone, not counting their relatives so I thought it might be confusing later if I just used "princess" for all of them.

[2] Husband of a princess, this title is given to men who marry into the imperial family through a princess. Normally, it's the woman who marries into the man's family but a princess is royalty so unless given permission by the Emperor to marry into the husband's family or the social status of the husband's family is somewhat comparable to the imperial family, men usually marry into the imperial family.

[3] not caring about what is said
