Since Basics of Sword Fighting was an introductory course that students from all departments took, the students were not allowed inside the Sword Department's Training Hall just yet.

Thankfully, that Right-winged General's daughter was not in any of these core classes. The reason for that was because her family was a newly named family and didn't have enough backing and history to be included in their group. As for why the Lun siblings could be there despite merchants being lower on the social ladder than farmers, was because they were the only children coming from an influential family in the Mingya Country, who heavily relied on Tianan for military protection. So, it was understandable why no one of a higher status and influence was there.

Though, what was annoying was that Miss Yang kept trying to make fun of her, not that the other ever succeeded. Even if Shen Tianyu didn't like it, it's not like the other did anything other than verbally attacking her. The score for Bai Yaoxuan would naturally be settled by her making the other fail in her attempts. The other seemed to be quite impatient though, as Miss Yang challenged Shen Tianyu to a fight during the Sword Department's one-month assessment test. It was another chance to show off so Shen Tianyu didn't hesitate to accept.

Shen Tianyu finished all the assessment tests in her classes and waited for the big festival to start. The big event that's often known as the "official" one-month assessment, where students would fight or show off their progress in their respective departments, was held over a one week period. In order to prevent more stress that would affect performance, classes were held off for that one week. It was really just a big spectacle for other students.

Honestly, it was more like a sports festival than anything. Students could pick and choose which department's competitions they wish to participate in, though the competition of the department they chose as their major was mandatory. The rankings a students got on the other competitions didn't matter unless you were switching over or applying to different departments at the same time.

The assessment for the medical division was a bit different, though. It was more of a consecutive battle that lasts for four days. Each day had their "winners" and those winners could either choose to move on to the next day's assessment or give their position to someone else that the elders and professors would pick. After all, basic knowledge of anatomy and first-aid were required and everything else was just a step up from the last so none of the elders of the Medical Division saw the need to separate the competition into different tests for different departments, or Stages, like the elders of the Cultivation Division did.

There would be two days of rest before the assessment began, God Day and Solar Day. Then, the Cultivation Divisions's competition for individual departments would be held during Moon, Fire, Water, and Earth Days. One department was granted an entire day for their competition, though that only goes up to when the sun sets. Then, on Wind, Wood, Metal, and Lightning Days was when the long and grueling elimination contest for the Medical Division would be held.

This year, the Sword Department would go first, followed by the Fist Department, then the Talisman and Array department before ending with the Beast-Taming Department. As for the Medical Division, it was the Physical Injury stage, then Internal Medicine, Poison and, finally, Pills Stage. Shen Tianyu heard the order for the Cultivation Departments were determined by lottery for the last two, since both were equally troublesome to prepare for. Everyone had to register which assessment they were participating in, in advance including their own department's to ensure they could get a block. The ones Shen Tianyu signed up for was the Sword Battle Arena, Beast-Taming Show and the, in-creatively named Poison Assessment. Of course, she would have to pass through the previous two Stage before she got to the last one but that didn't really bother her.

...

The day of the Sword Department's battle tournament finally came. Shen Tianyu chose to bring one of her better swords to the Arena, as such resources were now considered a part of a student's talent as well. Naturally, this put the rich at an advantage, but class tests were also taken into consideration to balance out the wealth of the rich.

Shen Tianyu's sword had a silver, one-sided blade, a gold guard engraved with a lotus flower, and a black hilt bandaged in black. The scabbard was a simple black with shades of lighter grey tones. She wore a short, light purple robe that only reached her knees with a pair of shorts underneath that she had cut from a pair of pants herself. The robe fully covered her upper body, while she wore a pair of shoes woven by Crystal Spider silk.

Crystal Spiders seemed translucent but in a different way than ghosts, with multiple colors seeming to flash for brief moments on their bodies. Though they looked pretty, it didn't mean they were less hostile to humans. In fact, they were probably one of the more vicious species of the spider race. As many people liked pretty things and the silk that these Crystal Spiders wove were as hard as diamond, not able to be cut by even high-tier swords. So, many humans tried to hunt them down to keep as pets, using their corpses as decorative displays when they failed to capture them alive, or as producers of such silk for themselves. Just getting to them wasn't easy as they usually lived in droves inside caves on dangerously steep cliffs.
