The test was just people drawing their best talismans and then letting them be used in front of the audience. There was a board of elders and senior students to grade the writing and understanding of the characters based on the drawings and effects of the talismans. There wasn't much expectation since most have only been learning for a month but there were still potential talents showing their colors. Most of the talismans were no different than flash bangs. Pretty looking but not very effective. It ended much sooner than the previous two exams and the audience left with not much fluctuation in mood. Most people that came were there to recruit talents and the other portion were truly interested in either transferring in or friends supporting the participants.
"Mmmm..." Shen Tianyu stretched her tireed body as soon as she stepped out of the dark indoor stadium. This test was held in a stadium that is exclusively used by the Talisman and Array Department. It's more heavily guarded with arrays than the outdoor stage and holds less sunlight.
"Boring?" Rong Jian stepped out behind her with Bai Yaoxuan following behind.
"Not really. At least we were able to meet a few of the elders and senior students. In the first place, talismans and arrays aren't a one-time technique. It's basically like chemistry, it can be flashy and loud but most of the time, it's quiet yet essential." Shen Tianyu finished stretching and led them towards the Main Road to look at some stalls.
"Senior Brother Wei didn't come." Bai Yaoxuan commented on their way back out.
"Mn. With his personality, he wouldn't be interested in these little shows. He'd probably rather spend his time tinkering wit new talismans or spiritual objects."
"He's not interested in upcoming competitors?"
"Wei Xianying, this person... if you put it badly, he's too arrogant. If you put it truthfully, he doesn't care. After all, he already pledged himself so there's no need for him to fight over sponsors like the other students."
"Already? He's not even a full-fledged adult yet."
"Neither are a lot of people, but they still go outside to fight demonic beasts."
"Who is it?" Bai Yaoxuan sidled up to Shen Tianyu, as if urging her to tell a big secret.
"Can't you tell? The Song siblings and him have different surnames."

"You guess." Instead, Bai Yaoxuan got these two whispered words as Shen Tianyu strolled further forward, making to run away.
"Hey! You!" Bai Yaoxuan ran after her. Rong Jian's lips tugged into a minute smile before his face returned to normal and followed the two ladies strolling around, arm in arm.

Most were strutting around in a showy way but others with smaller spiritual beasts were more discreet. However, most of the spiritual beasts were of low level. Some had their spiritual beasts captured by paid mercenaries while others went to nearby forests with sightings of demonic beasts to make a contract.
"So many people already have spiritual beasts?" Bai Yaoxuan whistled in surprise seeing the mythical animals wondering around. There was a flaming dog whose head and tail were on fire. There was a bear walking on two legs with a teen on it's shoulder and a cat with ice protruding from it's spine.
"Hm. It's the Beast Taming Department after all. But most of these should be new contracts." Shen Tianyu nodded without much surprise on her face.
'As I thought, Xue Lang is the best, his fur is fluffy and I can ride on his back without needing to be overly careful.' Shen Tianyu praised Xue Lang through their bond. The Snow Wolf who was trotting beside them bristled it's fur and lifted it's head higher with a proud look.
'Of course. None of these stupid ants can compare to me.' It replied as it glanced over the other spiritual beasts with disdain in it's eyes.
"So, is it being held at the outdoor stadium?" Bai Yaoxuan asked the other woman.
"No, it's going to be held at the indoor stadium that was used yesterday. Though there's probably no need but better to be safe than sorry." Shen Tianyu shrugged.
"Oh, does Zhu Wangye have a spiritual beast too?" Bai Yaoxuan only now thought of this question as she looked around. Rong Jian was in the Sword Department but it didn't hurt yo have an extra layer of protection. Besides, he was royalty.
"Mn." Rong Jian uttered a sound of validation as he nodded his head.

"Ye Cha[1] is often aloof and does not like to show himself. Also, I had him on another long errand so he has yet to return." Rong Jian took hold of Shen Tianyu's hand. Bai Yaoxuan quietly stepped back and allowed the couple some space.
