"I know, I know. I'll take my time and be careful..."

Bai Yaoxuan sighed as she slumped further into the bedsheets. "...so..."

"Hmn?" Shen Tianyu turned her head at the other's slightly awkward tone.

"...Why are you so eager to get married now anyways?" Bai Yaoxuan peered up at her from the bedsheets.

"You're asking this now? This late in the game?" Shen Tianyu quirked her eyebrows in question.

"Well... I thought you were joking before. At least, I never thought it would happen so soon..." Bai Yaoxuan pouted as if she was wronged but then reverted her expression back into her serious face. "Don't you think you're being too hasty?"

"Not really? It's pretty similar to the 'flash marriages' we know?" Shen Tianyu tilted her head.

"It's 'flash wedding' not 'flash marriage'. And do you even know what you're talking about? 'Flash wedding' is just a quick wedding with a small group of people, you still need time to know you're significant other beforehand." Bai Yaoxuan explained, exasperated.

"Ah, is that so?"

"It's not 'Ah, is that so'! My point is you're going too fast!"

"I don't really think there's any problem? Even back in our world, there were arranged marriages in our time period. It's even more common here. Some couples, especially nobility, haven't even seen their spouse before the wedding night."

"That's them and this is you. Putting our last lives aside, you're a special disciple of a big organization with enough authority to order even the Managers of Lavender Palace and Lotus Pavilion around. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if you're actually part of the management of the whole thing. There's no need for you to marry so fast and few would dare to make political offers like the nobilities."

"Mn... so?"

Bai Yaoxuan groaned in frustration as she grabbed her hair in bunches. "Ugh... why don't you get it? I'm saying, if you get married so fast without proper time to know each other, there's a high possibility it won't work out, you know?"

"If it doesn't work out, then we can just divorce. Even if I'm a divorcee, there's probably still people willing to marry me. And if I can't find the right one, then I could just remain single my whole life. If it's about passing on skills, then I can just adopt. I mean, I am adopted by Master. So, there shouldn't be any problems." Shen Tianyu looked like she was trying to understand why Bai Yaoxuan was getting frustrated but completely failing.

"All that is just a marketing scheme embedded into society by wedding planning companies and their associates. In the first place, marriages for the common people were never that grand up until the 1800s or so. Even then, grand weddings were pretty much exclusive to the upper class. The commoners just got more creative. It used to be that a 'wedding ceremony' didn't even last a day. It wasn't until the proliferation of wedding companies and increase in overall living conditions that more elaborate things like big venues, rehearsals, pre-wedding parties and such became cemented in wedding culture. It's the same for the East, no one's got money for grand and elaborate ceremonies except the upper class. In actuality, the divorce rates of countries all over the world in our time period are pretty high compared to before. 2.6 to 5.5 couples out of every 1,000 file for divorce. The rate in the U* can be as high as 50 percent. Though, it's not necessarily a bad thing. The onslaught of divorce was initially caused by Women's rights movements that gave women confidence that they didn't need to latch on men to live. There are also the small percentage of cases that involved domestic abuse. So, marriages and weddings aren't as fairytale like as media makes it out to be."

Bai Yaoxuan flopped down on the bed and uttered a scream into the silk and cotton sheets. She uselessly hit the soft bed with her fists as if throwing a tantrum. She finally emerged from the pile of fluff with a deep breath.

"I'm trying to get you to understand why marriage is important! Not have you give me a lecture about it with facts that I know are probably true from who-knows-where!"

"G****e."

"... And I am not going to bother questioning why you remembered all that." With a huff and rough grunt, Bai Yaoxuan sat up on the bed. "I'm trying to say you should be more careful with your marriage because it's such an important event in your life."

"... How is it important? And why?"

"It's the day you get together with your most beloved and start building a family together. And before you shatter my argument again, there are a bunch of marriage traditions all over the world along with other big religious events. That just proves the importance of a marriage in the eyes of the people."

"But in actuality, you can't know if your spouse will be the one for you, right? Some couples get tired of each other in old age and break up, even when they have children of adult age. Only until the moment of your passing, will you be sure that the other person was the one for you."

"Listen here, you little dipshit, don't twist this into some macabre crap. I ain't having that." Bai Yaoxuan pointed her finger at the nose of Shen Tianyu, who was looking up at her from her laying position on the bed.
