"...I'm worried about you, you know?" Bai Yaoxuan muttered. "I know everything I said sounds... preachy but... I mean, you came here before me and I don't know what you've been through. Even now, I don't really know much about the world itself. What if the thing with you and Zhu Wangye was an arranged marriage or something... I don't want you to be married because of some contract obligation or something like that. I want you to find someone you sincerely like and be happy with them. And, given the short time you said you've known Zhu Wangye... I just find it strange. You never were one to do things recklessly."

"That's not true." Shen Tianyu giggled. "I think it takes quite some guts and a certain amount of recklessness to start a business before you even start college. Running a business in and of itself is reckless because you're basically gambling and constantly weighing different options against each other. One untimely mistake and years worth of work could crumble into nothingness just like that."

"Yeah but you always analyzed things extensively. Even if you say running a business is like gambling, you don't just blindly rely on luck." Bai Yaoxuan then turned her head aside and pouted. "If it was like that, I would have been able to start a decent-sized company."

Shen Tianyu chuckled as she got up from the bed and hugged her sister. "I know, you were worried that this wasn't like me, right? But you know... I do favor him, though it might not be to the point of love. And, I want to experience it too. A relationship. A romantic relationship."

Shen Tianyu then detached herself and looked at Bai Yaoxuan's startled face. "I want to know what led Mother to do what she did. I want to know why you can smile and laugh like a fool at something as simple as being passed a piece of beef. How can people put their lives on the line, how they can joke that they would die for someone that's not related to them. What makes some people commit crimes for the sake of one word. Scientifically I understand why. But that doesn't equate to 'knowing'. I want to 'know' why it happens and how it feels."

"But you only favor him, like at best."

"But that can also develop into love with time and interactions." Shen Tianyu countered.

Bai Yaoxuan gave a sigh of resignation. "Alright, fine. It's your marriage and your life, if that's what you want to do then so be it."

...

The next morning, the two girls woke up to the chirping of birds outside the windows.

"You should hurry up and go. Can't miss the rehearsal today." Bai Yaoxuan murmured into her pillow, refusing to even open her eyes.

"Yeah... The wedding's only two days from now. Thank god for the Empress." Shen Tianyu yawned as her feet touched the ground. She walked over to her wardrobe and picked out a simple yet stylish hanfu[1] and coat.

"Remember to call up Tian Yu and Luo Shue when you decide to get up. You need to finish your treatment. Also, I'm not telling you to train extensively but you should still exercise a bit to develop some muscle memory." Shen Tianyu instructed from behind the screen she was changing behind.

The next two days progressed smoothly despite the chaos that was the wedding preparations. Bai Yaoxuan was almost healed and the invitations were sent out. Most nobilities already knew the wedding was happening so the invitations were just a formality. Most had already cleared their schedules to prepare and those that didn't swore to finish their work as soon as possible to make it in time to give their blessings. The invitations that contained people that were noted by Rong Jian and Shen Tianyu were mostly students from Chengyuan School or colleagues that they melded particularly well with. The latter was what was mostly on Qiao Wangye's invite list. These more personal invitations were to ascertain the friendly relationship between the invited and the invitee.

Jun Wangye's list was the longest, even more so than the bride and groom's. However, it also contained the least political power and agenda. Mainly because the ones invited on Jun Wangye's list were mostly his comrades in arms. These army soldiers were those who wouldn't get an invitation or whose family wouldn't bring them to the banquet. These included merchant's children, the second, third, fourth or lower children of noble households, extra children of poor nobles, illegitimate children, plain peasants and so on. There were a few men who were kicked out of their households and taken in by Jun Wangye who are now making a name for themselves with their martial and military prowess. He did feel awkward about his long list and offered to trim it down along with an apology but neither the bride nor groom saw any problems with it and actually encouraged him to add more.

"The more the merrier." Rong Jian told him shortly.

"It would be good to have more people with little to no political agenda. It would be easier for Master and Elder Yu. It'll actually make the banquet somewhat fun and enjoyable." Shen Tianyu added.

The Crown Prince's list was the shortest and most direct. There was only important ministers that served the royal crown on his list. Most of them were loyal to either the Emperor or the kingdom as a whole rather than any faction.

"I don't want to weaponize the wedding of my beloved younger brother or brothers. Besides, there's no benefit in siding with any faction both for myself and the kingdom." He reasoned to them.
