The officiator stood to the side as he announced the arrival of the bride and groom. A low table was prepared in front of the altar with Bai Yaoxuan, dressed to the nines, sitting on the cushion at one end.

"First bow to the heaven and earth." The officiator announced in a singsong voice. Rong Jian and Shen Tianyu kneeled down on the red carpet and bowed to the altar.

"Second bow to the ancestors~" Rong Jian and Shen Tianyu bowed to the two pairs of elders.

"Tea ceremony~" Bai Yaoxuan handed over the light green tea, sweetened with dried longans, lotus seeds, and red dates. Each of the couple received a cup and shuffled forward with their heads bowed. They first went over to the Emperor and Empress, as they technically had a higher position.

"Please drink tea." The couple said in unison as they held their porcelain teacups decorated with double happiness in red glaze. The Imperial couple drank their tea without much fuss and handed over their gifts for the couple. The Emperor gave them each a protective talisman of the highest grade. The Empress gave Rong Jian a box of Bodhi fruit and a golden comb with a carved fenghuang on top decorated with purple sapphire eyes.

They received the gifts and moved on to Muo Jeng and Elder Yu.

"Please drink tea." Muo Jeng glared at Rong Jian and nagged him to treat Shen Tianyu well before he grabbed his cup. Elder Yu drank hers without much difficulty. Again, they gave them both high end gifts that could not be simply bought with money. They then returned to their position in front of the altar.

"Third bow to each other~" The officiator's voice rang throughout the hall. Rong Jian and Shen Tianyu turned and bowed to each other.

The officiator announced the ceremony was finished and Rong Jian escorted Shen Tianyu out of the Banquet Hall. She was then handed off to Bai Yaoxuan who led her the rest of the way to their bed chambers for the night.

With a red veil still obscuring her sight, Shen Tianyu waited on the bed for her now husband to finish his merry with the other guests and come. Feeling tired, she leaned against the bed frame as she closed her eyes for some rest.

Meanwhile, Rong Jian was holding a goblet full f wine, walking around the venue and toasting with everyone that came up to him. There were countless congratulations but the most her ever replied was a "thanks". The other nobles that were more of a merrymaking mood tried to goad him to drink but he refused it all. The other half of the nobles went to "get to know" Shen Tianyu's "parents" better. Bai Yaoxuan was helping to manage the banquet to make sure there wasn't any trouble, with Ningwu Liushan by her side.

...

"Hello everyone, my name is Xuan Lingwen." Shen Tianyu remembered the first day she entered her highschool, though most of the people came from the same middle school, the teacher still had them all introduce themselves. "I hope I can make some friends during my time in highschool." She bowed to the class and sat back down in her seat. At this point, cliques had long formed so it definitely wouldn't be easy to enter one this late in the game. Well, it was just a slight hopeful wish.

During one of the breaks between two classes, Xuan Lingwen was reorganizing her materials for the next class when a light shadow fell over her desk. She looked up to find a young girl her girl her age with raven black hair falling over her shoulders and a braid on her left ending with a sea blue bead that matched her sapphire eyes.

"Hello, you're Xuan Lingwen, right?" The girl asked with a bright smile on her lips.

"Yes, and you are...?" She wasn't paying enough attention to remember the names of everyone in the classroom. She only knew the names of her seating neighbors currently.

"I'm Bai Yaoxuan! You said you wanted to make friends right? So let's be friends!"

"Alright... Yaoxuan." Xuan Lingwen nodded her head to reaffirm.

The girl's face lit up even more than before as she let out a sound of joy. "Thanks! I've always wanted to talk to you but you seemed like you didn't want to be bothered so I never talked to you before... Ah! Call me Yaoyao! That's what my friends call me!"

"Okay, Yaoyao. You can call me by a nickname too, then."

"Really?!" The girl clapped her hands together. "Hm... then... how about Lingling?"

Xuan Lingwen nodded with a faint smile.

And that was her first meeting with the girl that was to be her kid sister, and later, her sworn sister who was also her only otherworldly companion.

... As highschool continued on, Xuan Lingwen adapted pretty well to Bai Yaoxuan's social circle. She was a bright and cheery girl, though naïve but also innocent. The people she attracted weren't always good types but she was always well protected by her friends like a precious baby. Naturally, Xuan Lingwen soon joined the rings of this protective circle, albeit she wasn't as active as the others. Being the one with the best scores in their grade, and perhaps even exceeding their seniors, she also became the tutor and exam savior of the group. At first, she did it to help them but they always got lazy once the tests were over so she jokingly said that she should start charging them for it.

"Oh, maybe we should pay you! We've been hogging such a great resource all to ourselves, after all." Maybe it was because of her monotone or because she rarely joined in joking or because she really thought so, Bai Yaoxuan jumped forward in agreement.

"Ah, no. I was just-" Xuan Lingwen tried to clarify herself but to no avail.

"What do you guys think?" Bai Yaoxuan asked the other friends gathered around the table in her room.
