'Well, we could just bomb the entire place but... there's too many unknown factors. Don't want to make the consequences worse.' Shen Tianyu thought as she threw a few bombs to hold off the enemies.

Jun Wangye's unit held off the enemies as they allowed the juniors to retreat. However, due to the speed of retreat, the enemies were getting closer and closer. The "villagers" kept attacking them along with the Black Eagles like they didn't want their lives. Even when their neighbors fell on the ground, none of them even flinched, not the kids or the elderly. Even more strange was that the Black Eagles didn't attack the "villagers" but seemed to cooperate with them instead.

But, they didn't bother with the reason behind this too much. Thankfully, the "villagers" didn't seem to have any anomalies except for looking like they were brainwashed so cultivators can more easily hold them off. The main problem was the Black Eagles.

When Ming Yunyue was getting tired of carrying the heavily injured member, Nian Yingge switched duties with her. Thanks to the seniors and Shen Tianyu, the other juniors have yet to actually join in the fight.

By the time the group was almost at the city, the hoard pursuing them seemed to have encountered a barrier. The "villagers" stood stiffly in place, with their farmer tools and kitchenware in hand, staring at them as they got further and further away. None of them took a single step forward, though the image was certainly disturbing to see. The Black Eagles were flapping their wings in place, not moving forward at all and merely squawking at their prey with angry flaps and beak clicks. Even so, the group didn't let their guard down until the city gates were within sight.

"Excuse us, we need to get into the city. We came back from Qiongqi Village and need to return." Ming Yunyue, greeted the city gate's guards in her usual manner, not seeming short of breath at all.

The guards looked at their tattered forms with a questioning eye but let them in anyways. They also knew about the troubles of the neighboring village so it's not a surprise that people would come here in such a state.

"Should we settle here and wait for an elder or should we go straight back to the School? The demonic beasts don't seem like they'll attack outside the village but we don't know if and when they'll break this far." After settling everyone at an inn, they got a private room at a nearby restaurant and started discussion over a hearty meal.

"I think we should wait here for a few days to regain our strength. We also have injured members so we should let them rest and heal up. And then, if a teacher doesn't show up within the few days, we'll go back to the School." Shen Tianyu proposed.

"But like Young Master Ningwu said, we don't know if the demonic beats will attack within those few days after we made such a big ruckus. Maybe they went back to gather more reinforcements." The unnamed member of Ningwu Liushan's group spoke up.

"That's indeed true but how far do you think we can run in this state?" Lun Chang pointed out their biggest concern. They were all tired out from fighting the whole day, even the seniors though look less haggard.

"It's safer to put as much distance as we can between us and that strange village." Bai Yaoxuan brought up. Despite having the lowest cultivation level, she fared relatively well during the attack. Maybe because she was aware of her own abilities and knew when to back out and when to enter the fray.

"But we should still afford our injured to rest. Even if we're cultivators, we're not immortal. If we're not careful, our injuries could get worse and if we run day and night and need to camp out, there's a possibility of a slower healing speed." Ming Yunyue, being one of the only medics in the team spoke from her perspective.

"That's right. Sleeping in a tent is only a stopgap measure, it doesn't block out the dangers of nature as good as buildings. Moisture and insects can cause bacterial infections and even makes it easier for an injured person to come down with diseases." Nian Yingge stood by his fiancée.

"That's why I suggest we rest for a few days. It doesn't have to be long, just enough for everyone to energize themselves and get through the worst stages of the injuries. Maybe three or four days." Shen Tianyu pushed for a rest since the others seem to need it. 'It is indeed true that when guns became common place in the battlefield, the actual biggest killer was disease and infections rather than gunshots.' She thought back to the bits of history she read about in her own time.

"But the demonic beasts are indeed worrying and we can't rely on the seniors too much." Even Bai Longtian jumped into the discussion. Find authorized novels in , faster updates, better experience, Please click #%E2%80%99s-courtesan-wife_11622167006444805/qiongqi-village-(11)_51227222584905514 for visiting.

"Even if we leave in a rush, they'll need to get through this city to get to us if the demonic beasts do intend to track us down. By then, the city will be unprepared for the attack and even more lives will be lost. At the very least, if we stay here, we can monitor the forest from afar and see if they'll be making any moves." Shen Tianyu brought up another point, the safety of the citizens residing in this small city. The population wasn't big but it was still a fair number of families living in this place.

Eventually, the group settled on staying in the city for three days to recuperate and apologized to the seniors for taking up even more of their time. Jun Wangye and them just waved off their apologies and replied that it was what a senior should do and that they'll personally escort them back to the School.

"Jun Wangye, what about your mission? We didn't encounter any dangers on our way here so we can just go back on our own. To have you guys escort us to the School and come back would be..." Shen Tianyu wasn't sure what she should say as her mind blanked out on words. She was naturally more generous speaking to this group since they were not only their seniors and saviors, but included her husband and her brother-in-law.
