Shen Tianyu understood her meaning and began to explain in a low voice as they moved. Recording orbs were similar to jade slips but differed in their number of usages. Neither had a limit in how much they could record but a jade slip can only record one person's message and after it has been used, it will not be able to hold another person's message, though it can be viewed by a number of people. One must erase the previous message to reuse the jade slip. That's why cultivators prefer to use it like paperless letters.

Recording orbs, on the other hand, can record the thoughts and voices of a number of people. However, the amount of time it can record is limited depending on the quality of the orb. The lowest quality orb can record only up to 5 people's thoughts and words while the highest quality orbs can record as much as 20 people. The content of each recording can be as short as 10 seconds to a three hour long lecture but it has a limited number of recordings it could note down. The quality of the orb is decided by it's translucency. They usually vary in color, though scholars are unsure why that is, but the lighter the color of the orb, the higher quality it is.

The group of seniors split up with them midway as they had to turn in proof of their mission's completion at the Pine Court.

When they arrived at their destination, the teacher that had led them to the Principal's Office before was still there and directed them towards the board for monthly missions.

The Temple of Guan Yu was a two-storied building with a green roof. In front of the temple were statues of Guan Yu, signaling to worshippers just who this temple was dedicated to. It also worked as a normal temple where normal civilians can pray to the god but the back of the temple and the second floor basically belonged to the Chengyuan School. The back of the temple was a bit crowded as it was behind the god statue and the place of worship. A student would enter the temple and go to the right, squeezing through an opened door behind a another unnecessarily big statue. It was more a big room than a guild hall, really.

The normal missions would be posted on a board near the doorway, where students can quickly choose and leave. After a month, the missions that have been left there for a month and were from patrons not of the School would be moved to the monthly missions board at the other end of the room. In between was a desk that tried to make the place resemble an office but just ended up making the place look even more desolate and cluttered.

The second floor wasn't much better as that was where the more important monks and priests have an office. The building connecting this main temple was their sleeping quarters so the School couldn't infringe there. There is a blocked off section of the second floor that can only be accessed from this room though. The stairs was guarded by whichever teacher was sitting at the desk, as it was located behind the inside of the desk. The teacher would need to trigger a mechanism for the wall to reveal the staircase, though. The second floor of this main temple, or more like the second floor of this room, was where the Jianghu1 Hit List was located.

The Jianghu Hit List consisted of criminals that have broken laws in multiple countries and were too powerful or sneaky to be captured by the country's guards or army. Basically, they were international criminals that no government were able to punish and said countries looked for the people of the Jianghu to help them detain or kill such people by putting bounties up for them. This floor was usually only accessible by older senior students that have been here longer than the required number of years and have proved their strengths, like Jun Wangye. Those that haven't accomplished big enough feats or were under the number of required years had to take a special test designed by the teachers to get certification to access that floor. Of course with the requirement being so strict and the targets being so dangerous, the rewards would also reflect this as even the reward for the person on the lowest position of the Jianghu Hit List had proportionally better rewards than even the most difficult quest on the first floor.

Also, Shen Tianyu was informed, that the bounties would be divided between the School and the student should one of the criminals be caught or killed, as long as the student or group of students brought back sufficient evidence. Of course, the student would get a larger portion of the share since they did the work, but the School would still take some for... something like a hosting fee? And the credit for the hunt would go to the School. For those that wanted fame, this might not be a good idea but for those with a brain, it was actually a good arrangement. Sometimes, those criminals had brothers or worked with a group that didn't make it on the list. Some of them even founded their own cult or dark sects. It would be troublesome if a young person were to get hunted down by those people.

'Honestly, I'm better at hunting people than demonic beasts... but you need some achievement in hunting demonic beasts as proof that you can handle it before you can even qualify to take the test for the certification... Such a pain...' Shen Tianyu sighed as she stared at the wall behind the teacher.

"We should go with a safer one this time." Lun Chang was saying as she scanned the available quests on the board.

"I think we should still stick together this time." Ningwu Liushan suggested. "We were largely able to get through the incident before because we were able to cooperate with such a big group, after all." Nian Yingge commented.  lit. Rivers and Lakes, the name used to refer to the martial artist/cultivator "section" or "community" of the world in xianxia and wuxia works
