"Are you two okay? You think you can keep going?" Shen Tianyu asked of the two volunteers when they came back to their senses. They, like the rest of them, had s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e hearing and had been quite bothered by the screeching. It was more worrisome since they were to fight in one of the upcoming battles.

"Urgh... Yeah, I'm fine. There's just a bit of ringing in my head, should be gone in a little bit." Yi Weixing answered, holding his head.

"I'm good to go too, just give me a moment." Tao Zhouqi tried to get up but stumbled. Shen Tianyu went forward to help and he put his hand on the wall next to him to stabilize himself.

"Oh dear, it seems that one fight was a bit too much for the humans." The old grandma voice echoed.

"It was too much for my ears too." The Tyrannical Sky Tiger grumbled. Shen Tianyu could hear the thumping of its tail against the rocks in annoyance.

"It's no big problem, we will be alright." She responded in the direction of the voice.

"If you deem it as fine. Which of us will go up next, Old Qi?" The feathery demonic beast asked its companion.

"My ears hurt so you go first." He passed the bucket to Old Gu.

"Alright then, it seems it is my turn." A flapping of wings and a feathery, black figure appeared in the area illuminated by the Light Talisman.

It was a large bird a little bigger than an a.d.u.l.t human with jet black feathers covering its entire body. However, the black feathers seemed to glitter a smatter of purple under the light, though it disappeared as quickly as one notices, as if it was a mere illusion. Unlike other birds, the eyes of this creature was a glassy green of clouded emeralds. Its beak was also black but had a red tinge at the tip. It's scaly legs were a haunting white, closer to the white of birch trees rather than bones.

'This is... an Abyssal Crow?' Shen Tianyu tilted her head to the side in thought as she stared at the bird.

Abyssal Crows usually resided in deep underground caves where little light could reach. They bathed in the darkness and their nutrients came from the rocks that were around them. That's why their beaks and claws are especially sharp and sturdy. A lot of cultivators d.e.s.i.r.ed to hunt them for those beaks and claws and make them into unbreakable swords but there have been no records of anyone ever succeeding.

The biggest problem was that Abyssal Crows dissipate into a black fog when they die so one would not be able to retrieve their corpses as they would a normal prey. And even if a human cultivator managed to get a claw of an Abyssal Crow alive, its nigh impossible to take it with them as you can't detach it individually. And the few that were able to bring back a claw of the Abyssal Crow have been unsuccessful in refining them into weapons because no one has ever worked with those materials before. Not only the temperature, the hammering, the amount and temperature of the water for cooling and any metals that need to be combined with the material to make it usable are all unknown.

Aside from that, their specialty is obscuration. They can conjure up black fog from their beaks to hide themselves as they attack or run away. The fog itself usually is not poisonous but the older ones are able to mix in other things that may cause a person to lose consciousness. How the other properties are mixed into the fog is unknown but from speculation, the fog they conjure up seem to be the same things that appears when they die. It's most likely something innate. One would think their size hinders their speed but on the contrary, they are some of the fastest demonic beasts alive.

Shen Tianyu thinks that an Abyssal Crow would be perfect for residing in Yaodu's forest, both as a messenger and as a protector. Unfortunately, they are hard to find and even harder to convince. They thrive in the deep underground, after all, a forest is probably not their most optimal habitat. And as creatures that can stay alone until death, such a vibrant place like Yaodu's forest wouldn't appeal to them anyways.

'If only we had one, we can build an underground facility without worry and fast. We can also use it as a shelter if anything were to happen... The problem is, we can't measure the Earth like demonic beasts can. If the shelter is too close to the surface, it could incidentally cause the aboveground to collapse with the slightest tremor. We are acquainted with demonic beasts that burrow underground but they're not enough if we want to build a facility.' Shen Tianyu's eyes twinkled as she watched the shadows of the men in tight, black clothes jumping around.

The fight had started and the Abyssal Crow called Old Gu immediately summoned an expanse of black fog with their beak. Even with the Light Talisman, they couldn't see through the thick fog, only able to make out the shadows of the ones within. The most obvious ones were the human shadows, fumbling about in an area where they cannot use their eyesight. This time, they were the ones at the disadvantage.

Shen Tianyu can faintly hear the whistling of air as the Abyssal crow flew around but the men don't seem to hear it.  Only when the ruffling sound of feathers was already too close do they react and hastily jump away.

'Tsk, tsk. This is why humans should train their other senses too instead of relying on sight so heavily.' Shen Tianyu crossed her arms, her eyes glinting in amus.e.m.e.nt.

There were plenty of demonic beasts like the Abyssal Crow that specialized in obstructing others' view, as well as ones that specialize in illusions. If one was to truly become a cultivator, they should not rely on sight for demonic beasts understand how important sight is to any creature.
