Today was the big day. Nirra got up from her bed excitedly, much to the curiosity of Ellie. So she got up and tapped her sister on the shoulder as she was putting on her clothes.

"Sis? What are you so excited about?" Ellie asked with her head tilted to the side.

Nirra put on a white shirt as she turned around to face her curious twin, and with a big smile, she obliged to satisfy her curiosity.

"Today is the day you, you, and dad will finally get to see my project." Nirra said with a big smile.

Ellie nodded in understanding and smiled at her sister's accomplishment. After the two changed into their clothes, they ran down the steps and into the forge, where their father was waiting for them so they could get the shop open.

"Nirra, Ellie, why the rush?" Marcus said as the two slammed the door to the forge open.

"Dad! Nirra is about to finish the project she has been trying to make since childhood. Ellie said this and lit up their father's face.

"Alright, I also want to see what her project does, so for today, the shop is going to remain closed." He said this, and the two nodded in understanding.

Nirra went to get her almost-completed flintlock pistol from the drawer and let her father inspect it.

"Interesting. So this is what you've been working on? What does it do?" He said as his hand held his chin.

"You'll get to see it once I make a handle for it," Nirra replied, putting on her apron and grabbing a piece of wood.

She took measurements of the pistol and drew what looked like a pistol handle into the wood. Then, she slowly carved the wood until it was in line with the guide she was using. Both Marcus and Ellie were watching, of course. Marcus even more so because this is the first time he has actually seen Nirra work on this device.

The wood eventually settled at the edge of the markings Nirra made to stop her from carving it too much. Nirra then carved out the inside a little bit so that the trigger mechanism would fit just above it. Nirra then nailed the wooden piece to the trigger mechanism, and after trying it out a few times, it was ready.

"It's done!" Nirra announced as she picked up the finished weapon in her hands. Ellie and Marcus were woken up from their little naps on their respective chairs while Nirra was busy carving.

"Can I hold it?" Marcus asked as he looked at the strange contraption Nirra had made.

"Sure," Nirra said, handing over the flintlock pistol.

Marcus held the pistol by the handle awkwardly and looked at it from a craftsman's perspective.

"It's a little heavy at the handle, and I can see it's not perfect because the sanding on some parts is still unfinished." He commented while looking at the barrel of the weapon.

"But the only question now is, what does it do?" He asked as he gave Nirra back her self-made firearm.

"In short, this is my weapon when I become an adventurer," Nirra said with a satisfied smile, looking at the weapon that took her years to craft.

"It's a weapon?" He was a bit shocked.

"Yes, it's time to see if it works," Nirra said, dragging the gunpowder and steel balls she made prior.

"So that's what you did with the lead ingot I gave you yesterday." He said this while looking at the lead balls.

"Sis? Whats that?" Ellie said as Nirra opened the waterlogged container that had gunpowder inside it.

"Oh, it's a special powder I made so this weapon could work." Nirra said as she dropped some powder inside a glass bottle. Then she grabbed two balls from the container that had them.

"Alright, I got the things needed to operate this weapon. Let's test it out at the field near the city." She said. Ellie and Marcus nodded.

The three walked out the door and eventually out of the city gates. When they reached a good distance from the outer wall, all Nirra could see was a beautiful field of green stretching for miles. She could see a forest area to her north as well as mountains to the east and west.

"Alright, let's hope this works," Nirra said as Ellie and Marcus gave her some space.

Nirra loaded the barrel with the gunpowder she made, and then came the lead ball. She then took out the ramrod from underneath the barrel and inserted it inside the barrel to make the gunpowder and lead ball have a nice, snug fit. Then she placed the ramrod back in its holder underneath the barrel as Nirra took aim at a rock that was 7 meters away from her.

Breathing out, Nirra exhaled and pressed the trigger. The hammer with the flint attached to it immediately went down to strike the steel frizzen. When it struck the frizzen, sparks flew to the flash pan, where a small amount of fine gunpowder was waiting, which ignited and lit a chain reaction that led to inside of the barrel. A controlled explosion happened, which propelled the lead ball out of the barrel with insane speeds. When it hit the rock, the rock was obliterated by the speeding ball, and all that was left was dust.

Nirra noticed what had happened and jumped in joy with her fist in the air. The crude flintlock she made worked, and there seems to be no damage to the barrel or trigger mechanism. Everything worked right, and what she had now was a fully operational flintlock pistol. The only problem left is without any 'rifling' which i makes the weapon more accurate. She couldn't fire at targets more than 30 meters away.

She then took a look at her father and sister's reactions, which got a giggle from her. Ellie has her eyes wide open at what she has witnessed, her father though. His jaw was on the floor. The two were left speechless by the display. It took a few more seconds before the two could compose themselves as Marcus placed his arm on Nirra's shoulder.

"Nirra...... I think you just invented a new class with that weapon." He said.

"Yeah, sis, what are you going to name it?" Ellie asked as Nirra took a look at her operational firearm.

"How about? ...... Ranger" she said with a satisfied smile as she remembered a phrase from reading about history in her past life.

'Rangers lead the way!'
