~End of chapter 114

Ming Zhu tried to convince Zhao Zhi, “But… I can’t give birth to a child… before the crown princess, right?”

The problem was that she simply did not want to give birth to a child at all.

Zhao Zhi remained silent for a while. Looking into her eyes, he asked, “Zhu Zhu, then do you want to be the crown princess?”

Ming Zhu wasn’t able to say even one word.

She didn’t want to.

Chapter 115

(42.1)

Ming Zhu found the look in his eyes a little forlorn, the sudden silence was a little embarrassing.

Ming Zhu raised her head and forced a dry smile. With modesty, she only said :”I don’t dare to think about it.”

It wasn’t that she didn’t dare to think about it, but that she simply didn’t want it at all.

Zhao Zhi could hear that she was deceiving him with false words, but he didn’t say anything.

Reaching his hand out, he lightly touched her cheek. The thin calluses left by years of practicing writing made his fingers feel a little rough.

Ming Zhu felt that the places he had touched on her face were turning a little feverish. She took a deep breath, trying hard to explain something, but it sounded incredibly stiff, “I am just a concubine, I won’t covet things that don’t belong to me, Your Highness can rest assured.”

She was almost about to swear to the heavens that she had no intention of overstepping the bounds.

These words sounded quite harsh to Zhao Zhi’s ears, like a thorn pierced in his flesh, triggering waves of pain that could not be ignored, shattering his unrealistic illusions.

Zhao Zhi’s throat felt like it was being clogged. He gulped before laughing, “Never mind then.”

She was really not good at lying, and even worse at concealing her emotions, one could tell everything that she was thinking inside her mind just from looking into her pure and lovely eyes.

Zhao Zhi held her hand tightly while steadily walking into the room.

Ming Zhu’s eyes quietly glanced at him, casting aside the question he had asked earlier to the back of her mind. She was anxious about something else in her heart.

She took the initiative to serve Zhao Zhi a cup of tea and hand it over to him, “Your Highness, how about continuing to teach me to practice writing today ?”

She would rather copy those tedious books than have a doctor come over to check her pulse.

Zhao Zhi was surprised, since when had she become so studious ? One moment she was negotiating with him to stop practicing writing, and the next moment, she had changed her mind again.

He asked with amusement, “Aren’t you tired ?”

Ming Zhu shook her head, “I’m not tired.”

Zhao Zhi chose the copybook he had personally written before, laid it out in front of her, and then started to grind the ink for her, “You just practice according to this copybook.”

He had a good handwriting but he didn’t feel that giving it to her to use for practice was a waste.

Ming Zhu was depressed in her heart and, under the light coming in from the window pane, she quietly stood in front of the desk and practiced her writing for half an hour. She ended up finishing copying the entire text.

Zhao Zhi complimented her, a rare occurrence.

Ming Zhu also felt that her writing was not as ugly as before, it wasn’t so bad to look at now.

She didn’t even have the time to feel happy about it, for a servant boy, outside of the room, came to make a report, saying that the invited doctor had already arrived and was now waiting outside the courtyard.

Zhao Zhi’s voice was bland, “Let him in.”

Ming Zhu hadn’t expected that, in the end, she still wouldn’t be able to avoid this. Her heart plummeted, feeling really uneasy.

Ming Zhu put away the paper, the brush, the ink and the ink stone. Without her noticing, her face had been stained with ink, a little dot of black had landed on her snow-white skin, making her look a little funny and cute.

Zhao Zhi saw it but didn’t let her know. The corners of his mouth couldn’t help but rise as a light smile quickly appeared and vanished.

Ming Zhu slowly walked up to him, her soft fingertips lightly tugged his sleeve, as she softly said: “Your Highness, I don’t want to drink medicine.”

She knew that Zhao Zhi was sensible to this move of hers, if she used a soft voice to talk gently to him, softened her attitude and pretended to be a little pitiful, as long as it wasn’t too overboard of a request, it was actually easy to make him agree.

But on this matter, there wasn’t much room for negotiation.

The doctor carried the medicine box inside, followed by a young apprentice. They respectfully walked in, he then bent down and bowed in greetings.

“Examine her.”

Ming Zhu’s heart was pounding, she felt that a great calamity was about to befall on her head.

The doctor put a handkerchief on her wrist and checked her pulse with his eyes closed. After a while, he opened his eyes, “Nothing is wrong with this miss’s body.”

Ming Zhu was so nervous that she was about to break out in cold sweat. Hearing these words, she was greatly relieved.

Zhao Zhi raised his eyes to look at him, “You go to the outer room first and wait there.”

The doctor gathered his things, “Yes.”

Ming Zhu stood up, the handkerchief in her hand had already been twisted out of shape. She said, “I already said I was fine, quickly have servants escort him back.”

Zhao Zhi said, “It’s not a problem.”

With big steps, he walked towards the outer room and found the doctor to question him in details.

The doctor told the truth according to her pulse, “Miss Ming’s pulse is stable and her body is indeed fine.”

Zhao Zhi was slowly relieved in his heart. He then stated his purpose.

The doctor froze for a moment after hearing this, “I’m afraid this is a bit difficult.”

The contraceptive soup that miss Ming had been drinking for a year was one he had prepared himself. Although he had purposefully weakened the effects of several strong medicinal herbs, but there was no medicine that didn’t hurt the body.

But the crown prince’s intention was really difficult to ascertain, since he wanted to have a child, how could he still let miss Ming continue taking the contraceptive medicine ?
